ABC announces the cast and team pairings of new alternative series The Superstars, a fresh take on an old favorite. The eight athletes are Jennifer Capriati, Brandi Chastain, Robert Horry, Jeff Kent, Kristi Leskinen, Lisa Leslie, Bode Miller and Terrell Owens. The eight celebrities are David Charvet, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Dan Cortese, Paige Hemmis, Julio Iglesias, Jr., Joanna Krupa, Ali Landry and Estella Warren. The series is based on ABC's classic Wide World of Sports series of the same name, which pitted athletes from all different sports against each other to determine the best athlete in the world. The Superstars pairs the celebrities with the athletes to compete in varying sporting events. Participants found out who their selected partners were only when they met for the first time at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. The six-episode series premieres TUESDAY, JUNE 23 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. Every week a team will be eliminated until one team is ultimately crowned the winner. Competitors' athletic prowess and strategy will be put to the test to excel in events including swimming, biking, running and kayaking, in addition to other head-to-head athletic challenges everyone must try to conquer. The team pairings for The Superstars will be Terrell Owens & Joanna Krupa; Jeff Kent & Ali Landry; Robert Horry & Estella Warren: Bode Miller & Paige Hemmis; Kristi Leskinen & Maksim Chmerkovskiy; Lisa Leslie & Dan Cortese; Jennifer Capriati & David Charvet; and Brandi Chastain & Julio Iglesias, Jr. The Superstars past winners include football stars Herschel Walker in 1987 and Jason Sehorn in 1998, decathlete Dave Johnson in 1993 and Olympic skier Bode Miller (who makes his return this year) in 2002. HOSTS John Saunders Warren Sapp Jenn Brown TEAMS Terrell Owens & Joanna Krupa Jeff Kent & Ali Landry Robert Horry & Estella Warren Bode Miller & Paige Hemmis Kristi Leskinen & Maksim Chmerkovskiy Lisa Leslie & Dan Cortese Jennifer Capriati & David Charvet Brandi Chastain & Julio Iglesias, Jr. |

The first show was pretty cool for me. I would personally like to thank Joanna Krupa for giving me a wonderful example to show my 12 year old as to what piss-poor sportsmanship looks like. I'm loving the rest of the cast! The elimination round looks killer!! |

At first I thought it was a little boring. The foot/bicycle race was boooooorrrrrrrrrring to the ultimate degree. How does anybody make a foot race exciting? The second part ... the kayak was pretty cool. I actually watched that part. I agree about Joanna, but I can understand her frustration. It was hard to believe even for me, a great sports fan, to imagine T.O as a sports superstart with the way he performed in the competitions. He might groove in the Pro Bowls but he was in a rut for this. After all the hype about him I probably would have been so excited to partner with him .... as Joanna was ... but the hype was just that. I do think she should have been a little more gracious though ... afterall when she lost the second heat, he didn't lash out at her. The bottom four competed in the obstacle course ... that had so much potential but seemed a little ... no a lot lame. I'll keep watching though |

That's the danger of being proclaimed "greatest athlete on the planet". It kind of gives you no outs. I think she was hoping to coast through this competition. She sucked at all of the competitions and she got caught up in the cargo net as well. I think it's the big-footed people that were really getting stuck in the net. You noticed that he lmade it through the second time with no problems. However, I think after hearing her tirade after the first loss at the obstacle course he intentionally kept it close so that she would have to prove herself. She went head to head and completely lost it. I loved the running/bike race because it really gave us an idea of who is there to compete and who is just phoning it in. |
