This is a show I got hooked on really fast. It's on the History channel and is followed by a African Expedition which I have also become very excited about. In Ice Road Truckers the roads are total ice. They are actually made from ice. There is also a section that takes place on the frozen Artic. This season takes place in Alaska and my favorite truckers so far is Jack and Lisa. Some of the downgrades on this road are awesome. I can't believe the rear wheels don't come completely off the ground when going down the roller coaster area. If you aren't watching this show, and love danger, you should give it a shot. These drivers have to drive over only 3 inches of ice on the Artic, down hills that are almost straight down, miles of 11 degree declines and white outs. OF everything, the whiteouts would scare me the most. When even Lisa got scared this week ... while carrying her first wide load and losing her scout vehicle, I have to say I give her props for participating in this man's world. She chains her tires herself and some of the chains weigh more than she does. I admire her determination Hugh (I think that's his name ... the heavier guy from Canada) is slowly becoming one of my least favorites. He is too much of dare devil and seems to be on an ego trip. Twice he almost ran into the back end of his guide's tanker truck by making wrong choices. Jack finally made it out on the ice and delivered his super long and heavy pipes directly to the oil rig. The speed limit while on the ice is only 5 MPH ... faster speeds would cause the truck to go through the ice. Jack remains my favorite driver. Tim and his friend are also at the top of my list. Tim is a newbe and just learning but he isn't trying to hotdog the run and takes his time even if it might cause him money due to fewer loads ... at least he is remaining safe and is not a danger to himself and others ... in time he might be great at this. The worst part of tonights show was the total white out. Several of the drivers were on a very dangerous part of the road with mountains on one side and a complete dropoff on the other. The avalanch crew were forced once again to create an avalanch following a bad storm. It's better to cause one and clean up the resulting snow than to let it happen unexpectedly on it's own. Can't wait for next week. |

Missed it again on Sunday. Sunday is not a good night for TV for me. I always forget it is on! |

A lot of the times I forget too ... exactly which day it airs ... so I search the History channel listing every night .... that was a pain so now I just set my DVR to record it every Sunday night. This is fast becoming one of my favorites. |

I am really really into this show. The youngest driver is Tim. Before the latest episode he was saying this was his life and he intended to be here making money until he was ready to retire. A friend of the family, (George ????) has been escorting Tim on his runs. Tonights run was very scary ... after going off the road last week, Tim barely stayed on the road this time. They faced a white out, locked brakes and a harrowing run down a huge hill ... Tim's last words ... he isn't sure this is for him. Lisa made her first wide load trip up to the top of the world. She trekked out over the ice and was amazed at all the equipment sitting on the ice. She loved the journey even though turning the extra long load offered some hairy moments. Jack is still in the lead though not much was seen of him in the current episode. |
