Tonight we will see two dances from the final 12 contestants/6 couples. I am waiting anxiously for the show to start and my drinks to arrive. As Cat Deeley takes the stage to get the show started she's sporting what I immediately commented as a dress that looked like something stolen from Rainbow Brite's nightie drawer. Cat dear, you are lovely and can wear just about anything, but please try to stay a little closer to center. Especially until you can get a hair dresser that can make you look as hot as you truly are. Joining me tonight is none other than Chairo. This should be fun because we are usually on different ends of the spectrum (pun intended) so we may be a bit catty, but honest in our opinions. Hey Chairo, thanks for covering for me last week. What's your assessment of tonight's situation?

Hi funny, well we have reached the point in the season where it becomes difficult to think about saying good-bye to any of the remaining dancers … with a few exceptions. I continue to have problems with Jessica and Comfort and their performances tonight didn’t change that at all. I agree with you about Jessica, but there's something about Comfort that draws me to her. We'll see how she does.

Chelsie and Mark They start the night off with a Salsa choreographed by Alex Da Silva. Fuego Joe Bataan is the music chosen. I found it to be fun and energetic and well done. I missed the "performance" from Mark. You could tell he was concentrating really hard on te steps though. What'd you think Chairo?
Chelsie is fast becoming one of my favorite female dancers. Tonight she danced circles around Mark. I enjoyed the number but didn’t feel the music fit.

For their second number Chelsie and Mark performed a Broadway routine from Smokey Joe's Café choreographed by Tyce Diorio. I'm a Woman I absolutely loved every minute of it and was actually sorry to see it end. The chemistry was great for me in this routine. Over all for the two dances I’d give them 7.5 out of 10 dance shoes. Do you agree Funnygirl?
No, sadly, I don't. I absolutely adore Mark and think that Chelsie is a great partner for him. However, Chelsie just couldn't pull of the sultry this song needed and Mark couldn't find his character enough. I would give them a 7.5, but that's only because of what's coming from the other couples.

Comfort and Thayne Now I've got my fingers crossed for these two because I don't think they'll survive another week in the bottom two. They draw a Hip Hop number first. Napoleon & Tabitha are the choreographers so I'm stoked to see what they will bring. Can We Chill Ne-Yo is the music and I really liked it. The moment on the stairs really worked for me and I was hopeful that they would pull this off, but once they hit center stage it was like they were auditioning for a part. They didn't look like a couple. Separately, they danced it flawlessly, however, this is a duet. Chairo…
I expected Comfort to blow me away but she didn’t. The whole performance left me hoping it would end soon. These two have about as much chemistry as a dog and a flea. All I wanted to do was scratch them off the screen.

While Funnygirl goes in search of a tissue, I'll set you up for their second number. A Different Corner by George Michael and Mandy Moore's choreography is what they are given to perform. It did nothing to raise their talent in my eyes. I totally agree with Nigel. It was a great routine that almost any of the other couples would have made a joy to watch. If these two don’t go home this week, America will definitely have it wrong. Score – 4 out of 10 dance shoes. Funnygirl?
*sniffle I thought this second dance was a lot better than you or the other judges led on. Yes, it lacked some chemistry but it wasn't as God awful as all that. I do have to agree I was wondering how Katee and Joshua would have made this look or even Mark and Chelsie. Yeah, I'll name names. :laugh

Jessica and WillThe much too praised Will and his dancing appendage Jessica will start their show with a contemporary piece by Tyce Diorio. Silence from the Unfaithful soundtrack. I'm not a huge fan of this type of contemporary dance especially when it's not done well. Granted, I had a hard time taking my eyes off of Will's shirtless frame and maybe that's why I really enjoyed this piece. Jessica seemed to be trying really hard, but I would have rather seen Katee put her stamp on this. She's so much smoother.

Well Funny you know that my least favorite female is Jessica and my favorite male is Will. Once again, the choreography was great and with another partner Will would have delivered a top notch performance. I think Jessica had been a thorn in Will’s side since the beginning of the season. Hopefully when she is sent home, Will won’t be dragged along with her.

Their second dance is the death dance … the Quick Step. Tony Meredith and Melanie are determined to give them something that will wow the audience. They are dancing to Barry Manilow's Bandstand Boogie. It was so awful I don’t even want to think about it. If Comfort doesn’t go home then Jessica needs to go … as a matter of face I think I’d prefer to Jessica leave before Comfort. I’d give Jessica a 3 out of 10 and Will a 7 out of 10 dance shoes. Funnygirl probably loved it so brace yourself…
Actually, it wasn't all that bad. Granted there wasn't a lot of "quick step" involved and what there was of it wasn't all that great, but I did kind of enjoy the performance. I have to take a moment to give Mia Michael's credit for pointing out that Will must be tired for carrying his partner all this way. I know I'm getting boo's from some of you but it's the truth. It's about time that somebody admitted just how mismatched this couple truly is.

Courtney and Gev Here is another mismatched couple. They get the distinction of pulling the Cha-Cha-Cha and it's choreographed by Pasha & Anya from season's past. Don't Stop the Music, Rihanna. I didn't like anything about it. I didn't like the choreography, I didn't like the music, I detested the dress they forced Courtney to wear and Gev was a train wreck. Over to you Chairo…

These two are fast becoming one of my favorite couples. Even when they aren’t perfect they still have great chemistry and are fun to watch. Courtney also looks great in her costumes. For me however this dance was perfect, fun and kept me entertained.

Since I've rendered Funnygirl speechless for the moment I'll tell you about their second dance. I felt just as entertained with their Jazz routine. Mandy Moore's choreography of two people lost in the jungle coupled with Standing There by the Creatures was a perfect mix. I just love these two … especially Courtney. If I heard correctly they will switch partners next week. I will have no problem seeing Gev leave but hope Courtney is around for awhile longer. I’d give them 8.5 out of 10 dance shoes.

I do have to admit I enjoyed this dance. I think it's Courtney's energy and personality that is brought out that makes it work. I wouldn't give them that high of a score because it wasn't technically as full as some of the other routines tonight, but I was entertained.

Kherington and Twitch are going to show us how krumping is really done. Lil' C is trying to make Kherington "buck" to pull this off. I'm not quite sure what that means, but maybe I'll know after they dance. 2 Buck 4 TV Tha J Squad is the music and it starts out with Twitch doing a hip-hop into krump solo that I thoroughly enjoyed. Kherington started off really strong. The goofy look on her face, which appeared to be her trying really hard not to laugh as opposed to the hard-core, bad-ass they were looking for through me off a bit.
They have been my favorite dancers from day one. That changed just a little tonight. Their Krump was awesome, and if you recall I don’t care for that type of dancing. The chemistry between them is awesome and their performance blew me away. I absolutely loved it loved it loved it.

Next they perform a smooth tango. Jean Marc Genereux choreographed a Mr. & Mrs. Smith dance for them to the tune of Assassins Tango. It was also a lot of fun to watch. I agree with the judges that towards the end Kherington was losing some of her fire and this was not Twitch’s best dance … BUT even when they are not at their best they are better than most of the others. They get 9.5 out of 10 dance shoes tonight.

Chairo you really need to look at things without your rose colored glasses on from time to time. The judges were spot on and I'm glad they called out this wonder-couple for the crap they performed tonight. They performed this piece as well as Kourtney and Matt did their ballroom piece that was supposed to have the same type of theme. They missed big time on this. The only thing I enjoyed was Kherington's skirt. Does anybody know where I can get one?

Joshua and Katee My favorite couple in the competition so far is our final couple to perform tonight. Their first dance is a Jean Marc Genereux choreographed Viennese Waltz to The Goo Goo Dolls' Iris. I must say that it was lacking a "flow" for me. The grace seemed to be coming and going. I only enjoyed moments of this dance. Chairo…
This couple took first place with me tonight. I never thought that would happen even though I have appreciated their talent from the beginning. Their waltz was exciting and I loved watching them dance. The judges thought it was ‘too bouncy’ but for me it was just great entertainment.

Funnygirl, I was thrilled to see this couple pick the Bollywood dance style. Nygel had been working hard to get somebody to come on the show to choreograph for them. They enlisted a man by the name of Nakul Dev Mahajan to do so. Dhoom Taana from the Om Shanti Om soundtrack is the music. It was perfect for Katee and she looked so beautiful. Joshua and Katee nailed this one. It was lively, fun, a lot of variety and my favorite performance of the night. They get 10 out of 10 dance shoes from me tonight.
I too enjoyed this very athletic dance. It brought back the Katee & Joshua I've come to know and love. I agree Chairo, 10 out of 10 for me too. :yay:

Here is hoping Jessica leaves tomorrow. Thayne or Gev can go with her. IF she sticks around again then my fingers are crossed it will be Comfort.

I don't know Chairo. They seem to be doing their very best to keep the cast diverse. They stockpiled it with contemporary dancers this season so they will definitely give the edge to Comfort and Gev being hip-hop. I think Thayne is a much better personality and all around dancer than Gev though. Who knows, how this will turn out. I think our opinions will change drastically next week after the couples shift. Thanks for joining me this week Chairo, I know you haven't been feeling well.

Before I read your commentary, FG, I wanted to state a few things:
1 - I really liked Cat's dress!!!! (ok i admit i did read the first sentence you wrote)

My favorites are so hard to pick. I really like Chelsie and Mark, Courtney and Gev, Twitchington, and shoot - the Bollywood dancers.

I thought the Bollywood Dance was the best of the night.

I hate Jessica, am ambivalent with Will and also don't care for Comfort or Thayne.

Now that i have said that, i will go read your brilliant recap which i have been waiting for all day!

Just thought I'd say I loved Cat's Boho dress too. Even her messy hair looked good with it

Before I get into the elimination episode I must talk about Cat's hair tonight. I was screaming for someone to fix that fly away piece that kept waving at me. I was finally able to enjoy the show once that was taken care of.

The surprise of the evening was that Kherington and Twitch ended up in the bottom three alone with Comfort and Thayne and Jessica and Will. At the end of the show, Nigel said they wished this had been a night when they could have sent two girls home and kept all the guys ... I could not agree more. Losing Thayne was sad. He really is an awesome dancer. His downfall was his partners.

Immediately Kherington was given the green light to go sit down ... I actually think if she had been sent home before Jessica and Comfort, I'd have stopped watching.

In their solos Comfort way out shined Jessica, but the judges decided Jessica had more good dances during the season than Comfort so we said good bye to Comfort. I didn't think I'd be disappointed when Comfort left, but to know Jessica will be part of the road show and Comfort will not be, saddens me. I think Comfort was unique and would have offered more entertainment value to the group than Jessica.

So now we have our top ten. With the exception of Jessica, I am very happy with those who have made it this far. In the future it will be very hard for me to see any of the girls go home. (except of course Jessica) Each bring something unique to the show and have brought shouts of joy and even tears from me as they have performed. I do hope to see a female winner this year and would be very happy with Kherington and Katee and even Courtney and Chelsie.

As for the guys it is probably going to be a battle to the end between Twitch and Will. However Gev and Mark are good in their own right. It will be easier for me to see Gev leave than any of the others but his solos are absolutely awesome.

If life is fair and if Debbie Allen wasn't Will's mentor, Twitch should be the last man standing. His solo tonight was breathtaking. Will was good ... but Twitch ... well Twitch was Twitch and I loved it. I really think it would be hard for the judges to choose between these two so I guess it is a good thing that America will make the final decisions soon.

I can't wait to see how they shake things up next week ... just sad BB and SYTYCD will be competing against each other (maybe the time slots will be different??)

I was not shocked to see Kherington & Twitch in bottom 2. It made me hopeful that America is above making this just a popularity contest. I was sorry to see Comfort go, but she was in the bottom 3 every week but one so it was time. :(

I think there is going to be a huge shift in popularity once these dancers start trading partners. I don't think Kherington will be able to pull off a dance with Gev or Josh. I think the girls will be easy to cast off (with the exception of Katee), but it will come down to a fight to the death amongst Mark, Josh, and Twitch. I think Will is a brilliant dancer in his own right, but he's competing with the personalities and adaptability of the other three and he just can't keep up.

Chairo, I gave Twitch a standing "O" when he finished his solo. That was AWESOME!

Yes, if you had to pick a 3rd couple and you did HAVE to, twitchington was the correct choice. But, we all knew they'd both be safe. At least I did.

From Reality TV World:
Jessica King withdraws from 'Dance,' Comfort Fedoke returning

By Christopher Rocchio, 07/14/2008

Jessica King's standing as a So You Think You Can Dance Top 10 fourth-season finalist was short-lived.

Fox has announced the 23-year-old contemporary dancer from Myrtle Beach, SC has been forced to withdraw from So You Think You Can Dance's fourth season due to an undisclosed injury.

King will be replaced by Comfort Fedoke, who had been eliminated from the competition at the conclusion of last Thursday night's live results show.

More So You Think You Can Dance 4 News

"I would like to say how sorry I am that Jessica cannot continue dancing in the competition at the advice of her doctor. Her full recovery is paramount and will only come with rest," So You Think You Can Dance executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe said in a statement. "We are fortunate that Comfort has agreed to rejoin the competition and know that under the circumstances she has Jessica's full support."

During a Monday appearance at a Television Critics Association session for So You Think You Can Dance, Lythgoe declined to provide additional clarification on King's injury -- including the nature of it or when it happened -- when questioned by reporters.

"I'm afraid I can't be specific about the injury," said Lythgoe, zap2it.com reported.

In addition, Lythgoe said it would take "up to five weeks" for the injury to heal and promised that King herself would provide more information during a future So You Think You Can Dance broadcast, according to zap2it.com.

King and her partner Will Wingfield had found themselves among the bottom three vote getters during last Thursday night's results show, only to see themselves both be saved by the three judges -- Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Mia Michaels.

While Lythgoe had explained the judges had "often been disappointed" with King's performances, he added that in "at least one routine every week, you've been absolutely stunning." For that reason, King was saved and Fedoke was booted.

Now Fedoke is back and -- prior to So You Think You Can Dance's two-hour performance episode on Wednesday at 8PM ET/PT -- she'll receive a new partner for the third time this season.

However she won't be at too large of a disadvantage, as each of her fellow Top 10 fourth-season finalists -- Joshua Allen, Twitch Boss, Courtney Galiano, Chelsie Hightower, Mark Kanemura, Gev Manoukian, Kherington Payne, Katee Shean and Wingfield -- will all be paired with new dance partners and perform as new couples.

Then on Thursday at 9PM ET/PT, two more dancers will be eliminated based on home viewer votes cast immediately after Wednesday night's broadcast, revealing the Top 8.
