The best laid plans of the group failed last week. Everyone wanted Jen gone and put Bobby up with her as a pawn. As so often happens the pawn went home and the evil Jen remained. Christina was sure Jen would be more vicious than ever.

For her part, the living in a world of her own making, Jen, KNOWS that everyone wants her gone because they are afraid of her. She finally has a moment of introspective when she tells herself maybe she should have tried to make friends. She goes so far as to tell Christina she understands why she put her up and will “still” be there for her. (Okay .. am I missing something here? When has Jen been there for anyone?)

Corey says she doesn’t believe Jen (for once Corey and I are in total agreement) and she has to go. She doesn’t trust her at all.

The next morning Ramsay gives his pep talk. They are the final four and one of the them will become executive chef of his new restaurant London West Hollywood … a position worth a quarter of a million dollars. Of course Jen, Corey, Petrozza and Christina are adequately impressed.

Ramsay then tells them they are about to face the ‘mother’ of all challenges. For lunch they will have 1 hour to prepare a dish of their choosing to serve to 80 mystery guests. They each need to make 80 portions in one hour of their chosen dish.

Christina chose to make an Island turkey sandwich. Corey went with a grilled salmon BLT. Petrozza a Monte Cristo sandwich and Jen Calypso grouper. During their preparations Christina was happy and singing, Corey was lost and way behind everyone else, Petrozza for once organized and Jen bragging about how great her dish was compared to the others.

Ramsay told them to dish up their chosen items and take them to their stations. Corey continued to run behind and barely got 20 dished up. Ramsay told them the winner of this competition will be decided by the guests who will be voting after tasting all the food. Each served on a color coded plate.

The doors were opened to 80 very pregnant women. Corey groaned when she saw the ‘guests’ and Jen had been hoping for celebrities. Corey couldn’t keep up with the service and made some of the women wait while she went back to prepare more salmon BLTs.

When the votes were tallied Corey was in 4th place, an incredulous Jen in 3rd place, Petrozza in 2nd losing by only two votes to Christina. Her win won her a $1000 shopping spree in Beverly Hills with Ramsay. The losers had to clean the dining room, polish the silver and start prep for the evening service.

Jen was angry because she felt she deserved to win because she prepared the most complicated dish and because Christina has no shopping sense and didn’t deserve the prize. She felt she had much better fashion sense and could have done a better job shopping than Christina could do.

Corey also felt Christina has no fashion sense and would have loved the shopping spree. Petrozza was bummed he lost by only two votes. During the clean up Jen disgusted me once again by eating leftovers off the pregnant women’s plates. How gross!

During the ride to Beverly Hills Christina admitted to Ramsay she doesn’t know fashion. All of her clothes are black and white because she knows that they match. Ramsay took her to Lisa Kline’s who was there to outfit Christina herself. She got some beautiful clothes and said she’d love to be able to do this all the time. Ramsay was suggesting ways to do her hair and Christina felt he was flirting with her …. so do I … a little.

When Christina arrived back at Hell’s Kitchen Corey wanted to see what she got. The first top she pulled out, Jen turned her nose up; Corey didn’t treat her much better.

When she returned to the kitchen and asked what she could do to help at LEAST three time nobody would answer her. This had Christina wondering if winning the last two competitions had been a mistake. Finally Petrozza convinced himself the earlier competition was over and it was time to work as a team so he talked to her and then Corey did too.

During the service Jen refused to help anyone but herself until Ramsay told her to help Corey. Corey served undercooked fish that came back. Petrozza’s station was a pig sty and twice Christina set pans with hot handles in front of Ramsay and he burned his hand. (I was a little confused by this because for the most part Ramsay always used something to pick up the pans except these two times)

Things finally came together, service was completed and Ramsay congratulated them on the best service ever in Hell’s Kitchen. They he sent them upstairs to decide on two people for nomination.

No one wanted to be nominated so it was decided each person would write down two names and they couldn’t be the SAME two. However when Corey counted the votes it because obvious Jen had voted for Christina twice.

When they faced Ramsay, he asked Christina who the nominations were. First up was Jen because she is not a team player and is the weakest link. As to the second nomination she paused before saying Corey and the reason was because they’d like to see her do more during service.

After thinking it over Ramsay said, “The person going home tonight is ….. Corey (Christina had a stunned look on her face) …. say good-bye to Jen. Jen take off your jacket.”

Finally Jen was sent packing. Ramsay said being a good cook isn’t enough … you also need a good personality and he never knew which Jen he’d be talking to.

Previews show us that next week the final three will get their turns at calling out the orders and they will also be going for the jugular.

For those who might be interested Kitchen Nightmares returns in the fall. Gordon Ramsay is going to try to mellow out and be ……… nicer! I bet.

I am so happy that Jen is gone. She was becoming delusional, saying that the others were afraid of her. On the other hand, I have no idea what I would say if someone shoved a microphone in front of me in a similar circumstance: I, too, would probably say something to lift my spirits. Unfortunately it is just bad behavior that allows anyone to denigrate others in order to make him or her self feel better.
I loved the dishes that each made for the eighty mommies-to-be. Looking back on it, Christina was perfectly poised to win with a turkey club sandwich with curried avocado. I thought that Corey's salmon BLT with brioche was an interesting choice. Petrozza's Monte Christo with spicy adobo/chili sauce was mouth watering, although I am partial to artery clogging cuisine which I am no longer allowed to eat in any measure. Jen made a grilled grouper with a mango salsa and something else, but I didn't see whether it was a sandwich or not.

Jen's comment about the Monte Christo is notably picturesque for someone who has such little facility with the English language: She thinks it looks like "a heart attack dipped in a stroke with a side of cardiac arrest." She immediately reminds me of Aretha Franklin in The Blues Brothers.

The results were just about predictable. Christina's was nice and neat and delicate and yet tasty. Petrozza's probably aroused feelings of guilt, but must have been oh so good! Jen's was far more mainstream, and I would have loved it for a dinner and Corey couldn't manage to get her sandwich out in time. I have to admit that salmon BLT on a brioche sounded pretty good to me, so I think her choice was excellent and she may have faired better, but then how universal is salmon or even fish to some people's palate?
I laughed when Christina got to go to Beverly Hills for clothes. Frankly she looked good afterwards. Corey and Jen reacted in an expectedly bitchy manner. It was funny. I was also thinking of Petrozza going to the same place. None of the dresses would have looked even remotely good on him, although I did love that metallic silver black top Christina bought, but I digress.

On the dinner service, Jen first makes great risotto and then crummy risotto. I still cannot figure how they are doing this risotto in a pan, but Ramsay discovers Jen is MUSHING the risotto with a spoon. I just don't get why she would do this. All I can figure is that the risotto for the night must be cooked in a pot fairly dry and then taken by the ladle and finished with some stock and seasonings to give it the right consistency. If you don't get a spoon under it to stir, it will turn to mush or glue. You can LOOK at ruined risotto and know, so how and why is Jen doing it? Ramsay yells and the risotto improves. In addition, Corey seemed to be cooking scallops in 2 minutes which seemed a bit quick to me. Did anyone else catch that?

Christina burned Ramsay's hand by delivering a pan whose handle had been over the flame. In fact she did it twice and he was a bit more than upset. Corey gloated a bit. Corey is a bitch.

On the entrees, Jen refuses to help with the eggs until Ramsay notices her and then she says she is doing it. Corey delivers an underdone John Dory and it passes Ramsay but is sent back by the customers. You don't see that fish in the states very often, but this dish is garnished by several shrimp bigger than the piece of fish!

Petrozza does well but makes a typical mess of his station. I wouldn't care but new chefs are wildberry about keeping the station neat. Other than burning Ramsay's hand twice, (how was she keeping the pan handles over the flame?) Christina does well. It couldn’t have been too bad because he claps his hands for them at the end. Real chefs have asbestos hands anyway. Watch Jacques Pepin handle food from the oven some time.

Jen and Corey are put up for elimination and neither talks about their assets in communication, probably because they don't have any skills in that area. That's too bad because even a mediocre cook who can work with others is preferable to a prima donna. But it's good that Jen leaves.

Actually I am beginning to think Christina may be the one Ramsay has been grooming. Corey is a little hard to get along with, while Christina seems to work well with people. Petrozza is just sooooooo messy .. of course last night Ramsay told him to be as messy as he wants to be if he can deliver fillets the way he was doing.

Previews for next week seemed to indicate Christina would be going home and that Petrozza did something to really anger Ramsay ... but we all know how little we can count on previews.

I am hoping Christina wins at this point

Sorry but I gotta say I'm rooting for Petrozza. Christina seems like a lightweight to me and Corey, WAY too annoying to "deserve" to win. :laugh

Anyone else read about Australia considering new language legislation for television due to Ramsay's foul mouth?
