Not a great night for the idols. Jason should probably go home but his fan base will more than likely keep him ... will probably be between him, Brooke and Seyesha.

The Davids were the best. It's beginning to look like they will face on in the end. They are so different in the way they perform, it's hard to decide between the two. One rocks and one sings his butt off.

Again, we're watching a completely different show. I thought David A. was way out of his league and his performance seemed forced and phoney.

My two faves were David Cook and Syesha. Maybe it's because I like the fact that she's entertaining to watch as well as hear. I did love Brooke's second song. I wasn't crazy about Jason's songs, but I thought he was much better than David A.

Maybe it's just we like different types of music. Rock has never been something I cared to listen to. I wasn't even a Beatles fan because they were too far out for me LOL

I like David A because he appeals to my taste in music. However having said that, I would not buy his music nor would I buy any of the others albums. I have never bought music by a winner or even a runner up. I loved Taylor and Clay but won't buy their music

Ooh, that's interesting. I received Fantasia's first CD as a gift. I own every Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson CD ever made. My teenager just downloaded all of Daughtry's stuff on my iPod...I only voted for Fantasia because I was so scared that DiGarmo character may win by default.

I really have no serious interest in this season. This is the first time I'm coming in midway and have no real interest in it other than that I'm an outsider for the first time.

My daughter is 16 and she says her friends are very much into Jason. I don't think they care much what he sounds like. It's the look and the gentle eyes - the "wouldn't you love to date this guy" factor.

I was shocked when Simon said David A had picked the perfect song with Coming to America. I like that song for Neil Diamond - a younger Neil Diamond - but David's song didn't have the fullness for it and it seemed an odd choice for the young guy. Oh well. I also believe that it will be the 2 Davids facing off in the end.

Two David's to the end, that's why I wasn't upset that Brooke went home ... It should have been Jason, but I kind of like his look too. Too be perfectly honest I am not that concerned or carrying about who wins. Down to the final 4 and they all have their pros and cons. I just like watching the competition and how they progress. The only one I was truly sorry to see leave was Michael. At this point it will just be interesting to see who makes it to the end.

Simon was referring to the patriotism in the song choice, not that he sounded good or anything like that. America will vote for patriotism regardless of how well the song was sung. The kid sucked as far as performances go...then again, so did Jason Castro. WHATEVER!!

I think David A is popular because he is young and overcame great odds to be able to sing. He's cute and will appeal to the tweens just as Jason appeals to the teens. I do agree though (don't faint) that Jason should have gone home .... but then so should Brooke, so one just went before the other. Jason has been in bottom two a lot so I don't see him lasting much longer .... surely he won't make it to the final two.

BTW I forgot to mention. Did anyone else hear that Michael and David C are collaborating on an album? I guess Davd heard some of the songs Michael wrote and loved them. So no matter what happens David intends to record some of his songs.

Oh I like the sound of that collaboration ... thanks for sharing!

I don't mind that Jason stayed either. It would be awkward if he made it to the final 2, but whether he won't home now or not doesn't make much difference. Both he and Brooke added a sort of folk element and neither had the voice to make it to the end, imo. Pity Brooke's self-confidence hurt her performances, though.

Fallingdown you pegged Brooke. I watched Simon give advice to some of the others but Brookes 'woe is me' lack of confidence I believe is what did her in with the American public. Her voice wasn't bad on a lot of numbers and she could have a niche, but unless she feels it how is America supposed to feel it. The two Davids have tons of confidence and that is why they are where they are

David A. is a pagaent queen with a teeny-bopper following. I give him as much credit for talent as I did Diana DeGarmo.

I wasn't as surprised by Jason's first performance as the judges. It was what I expected it to be. After the thrashing he got from the, though, I'm also not surprised that he forgot the words on the second. Surely he will be the one to go tomorrow. I don't think that even VFTW can help save him now.

IMO Jason performed as if he wanted to go home. The only one who sang like they were trying to win was David A

Ooh, I disagree. I thought Syesha had quite a good night. I loved her second song. I loved David Cook's second song. I have to admit that David A. was on point last night, but I still don't like him. :giggle:

I do agree about Jason though. It's like he was trying to get the boot. I FFd through the first song after listening for 15 sec. It was hideous. I can't believe he forgot the words to teh second song. Then act as though he doesn't care.

Maybe he just realized he had no shot ... or maybe he already has an offer waiting and being on AI is an interference. For the first time I was really turned off by Jason and I have been a fan.

David C's first song was a but for me.

Sadly a visitor kept me from hearing either of Syesha's numbers, but she has done well the past couple of weeks.

Jason's a vert limited vocalist, so I'm not sure how they expected him to kick himself to a higher level. While he hasn't seemed as emotionally invested as the others (maybe cuz he knows the others have more vocal talent?), I cannot believe that he was intentionally trying to get the boot. That said, he'll probably be relieved that he's done ...

Below is an excerpt of an article about last night's Idol By Kristin Dos Santos

"Last week, I had it all figured out.

If you're a preteen, you vote for David Archuleta. If you're a teen-age girl, you love Jason Castro. And if you are a full-grown adult, you are all about David Cook.

But tonight, sitting in the live audience at Idol, I came to the realization that no matter who you are or what your age, when you hear David Archuleta in person, it is hard not to admit: He is so undeniably talented—with a voice so flawless and dynamic and pure, it actually resonates in your soul—he probably most deserves to be the winner of this year's American Idol. It would explain why he got the only full-audience standing O's of the night—and two of them, at that."

(and here is the rest of the article. It seems you get a different perspective when you are in the audience and hear the contestants live)

"Still, here's the truly ridiculous thing you can clown me for (and many of you will): The 12-year-old girl in me weeps for Jason Castro!

Not because he has the strongest voice of the remaining four (he of all people will tell you as much), but because Jason is so much better than that unfortunate catastrophic display we saw tonight. Yes, he bombed. Big time. To the point where Simon told him to "pack his bags." But I can tell you that in rehearsal, the guy was genius. Truly entertaining, smooth and polished and unique. And so obviously, his nerves got the best of him. And sadly, when all is said and done after tonight's show, it will be a huge shock if JC doesn't get the boot tomorrow night.

Archuleta has a huge fan following (see: two full-audience standing "O"s). Ditto for David and rightfully so. (I nearly got run over by a shaking and crying fan who was screaming about David's "blue eyes" that "looked right at me!" as she jumped up and down and called everyone she knew on her cell.) And Syesha Mercado seems to be getting stronger and stronger each and every week—not to mention, the heartfelt tears tonight will certainly win her a few extra votes. (I hate to say it, but in person, that girl just does not come across as very real. She certainly can sing, though.)

And so, unless Simon's harsh words motivate a surprisingly large number of fellow 12-year-old girls to vote in Jason's defense, it is probably time to say goodbye to this season's resident charming-but-awkward dreadlocked cutie. (In preparation, I will be listening over and over to my favorite Idol downloads so far this season—"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Halelujah"—and prepping for my eighth-grade classes tomorrow.)

Who do you think deserves to stay? Feel free to vote and comment below.

Oh, and by the way, anyone know where all the celebs were tonight? The biggest star I spotted in the audience was Wade Williams (Bellick) from Prison Break! Odd..."

interesting. since the judges listen to the rehearsals, maybe that is why they expressed such disappointment in Jason's first performance. they'd heard him do it when he was relaxed. could be.

He said that he had troubles remembering 2 songs ... I think he was relieved it was over. I still don't think he threw the competition purposefully though. The relaxed Jason singing out the show is the carefree performer that people find charming.

I tend to agree. I don't think Jason threw the comp, but I also don't think it mattered to him that he was out. He said next week they have to learn 3 songs and he had trouble with two.

I believe his AI bio was very good. During the comp he changed and lost some of his laid back attitude which made him so good. I think singing in the comp was not his cup of tea

I don't see Syesha being in final two but stranger things have happend (Clay losing to Ruben) so I still believe we will have the battle of the Davids.

Once again these two have such unique and different qualities and are equally great in their area, how can you say one is better than the other? David C rocks and David A is more traditional. Maybe for the first time we should have dual winners. I don't think either will have any difficulty finding a record label though.

I wonder how many newborns will be named David and Jason this year LOL

I hope there is a huge upset and the finale' is between Syesha and David A. David Cook would be lucky to go the way of Daughtry and Bo Bice. He gets the notariety and an option for a contact but it's not as long as the winner's is. I see him doing amazing things in the future.
