Helio, Helio, Helio, Helio, Helio, Helio, Helio -- What else can I say? The man has an infectious personality and frankly he is so good he leaves me wondering how truthful he is when he says he has never danced (lol).

It appears the judges have a problem with giving 10s this early in the competition. They gave Helio such glowing comments -- "you dance like a professional," "you were keeping up with Julianne, who is excellent," "you were actually leading Julianne at some points," etc. -- (even Len), and not one of them could come up with even ONE SINGLE NEGATIVE; then they give him only 9s. Seems like if you can't find something (no matter how minor) that needs improvement, then the score you give should reflect that.

From a safety point of view, Helio and Jenny have to watch out for those Hough kids -- Julianne was beating the heck out of Helio during rehearsals, and Derek almost gave Jenny a concussion during their dance.

lp: got your pm -- will be responding in the a.m. qr

With a five way tie for 5th place it actually appeared to me the judges didn't want to be the ones to decide who wins.

Last week Floyd got robbed score wise. This week I think it was Mark. Mark put in a lot of effort and really wants to improve. I think he should have the chance. After all look how long we kept Jerry and George around in their seasons.

For me the front runners in the comp are Helio, Sabrina and Mel B. All have come out of the gate with lots of steam but the question will be if they can maintain this frantic schedule to learn new dances every 4 days.

Let's not forget Mario, Drew and some of the others who knocked our socks off in the beginning but didn't get the votes to win. (Okay some won and some didn't ... Mario was really robbed)

For the first year there are some women worth watching who just may bring the trophy back into the female camp. I am not counting out Marie who put a lot of heart and soul into her dancing, nor Jane Seymore who may be able to relax and mix the raunch with the refined moves. Mel and Sabrina would appear to be the women to beat at this point.

I hate that I missed Helio. I think Julianne is one of the best "teachers" out there.

I want to be Jane Seymour when I grow up!!!! I can not believe that woman...grace, beauty, class and a sense of humor. I was only able to watch her dance all the way through and it was amazing. I loved how Carrie Ann joked that Len just wanted to see Jane get raunchy.

Thanks for covering chairo.

Yep, Jane and Marie are both classy women. Jane is in such great shape for a 56-year-old. She has that typically-English quiet charm and dignity. When you think about how long she was Dr. Quinn, it is especially remarkable that she is not "defined" by that role. Takes a strength of character not a whole lot of individuals in the acting profession are capable of pulling off. They may possess it, but having it and showing it are sometimes two very different things. Marie has perfected the "Osmond" sweetness of personality and uses it to great advantage, and I say, "good on her." She and her brother, Donnie, always come across as such sincere and likeable people.

Although Helio has impressed me the most to date, I certainly would not be unhappy if Jane or Marie were to win. And yes, it would be nice for a woman to win for a change. :yay: It may be just me, but I have a feeling the larger portion of the viewing audience is women. Are there enough women in the audience who will vote for another woman? Or are they going to vote for the "cute" or "sexy" guy? :oooo Just curious what others think.

If I just voted for the "cute" or "sexy" guy...Maks would get all my votes hands down...in turn it would be Mel B winning for me.

I'm just loving Jane though. And can you believe, I never saw one episode of Dr. Quinn. What rock was I under.

Do you think some of the votes are going to the "teachers"? I truly hope not. It seems to me that it kinda defeats the purpose of even having the "stars" if the votes aren't going to the contestants who show the most improvement (or dance the individual dances the best), but instead are going to the professionals. Maybe we should campaign for a "pro" contest, so they can be voted on separately?

Speaking of "pro" versus "star," that leads me to the problem I have with Mel B. It was my understanding (albeit very possibly wrong) that the "stars" were supposed to be learning from the "pros," yet Mel B seems to want to run the show, even though she (by her own admission) doesn't know what she is doing, unless it's hip hop. That attitude makes her come across as rather uncooperative about learning and really is only interested in winning "her" way. She couldn't even admit she needs lessons without also making it appear as though Maks has some things to learn. IMO, the only thing Maks needs to learn is how to deal with this self-centered Diva who must always be in charge. (Ooooooh, that sounds harsh. Don't mean to be quite so harsh, but the girl's attitude does get on my nerves.) I usually end up feeling very sorry for Maks. I think he's handled her attitude in a very generous manner, so far. However, she might want to exercise a little bit of restraint. Maks has proven in the past that he can be pushed only so far.

Forgive me but I like Mel B (even if she is after Eddie Murphy lol) and Sabrina is the hip hop girl. Don't know if that was ever said about Mel.
I am very impressed with Jane and Marie and would actually prefer Marie over Seymore. I did see Quinn and didn't care for it, but liked Jane in all of her movies.

Sabrina has the magnatism that Mario and Drew had in the competition and I think she will go far if she leaves the hip hop on the back burner. I have been impressed with her willingness to learn. Mel is a bit of a diva but not so much as to be annoying and if anyone can handle her it is Maks. She admits she is not used to turning over control to someone else but also that in this case she needs to do that.

I don't know about anyone else but I never vote for the pro. Maks and Edyta have always been my favorites but they have never received a vote from me if the star they are dancing with sucks.

This is a good field of contenstants with a few exceptions. I will be happy to see Garth and Newton leave. Floyd should follow close behind.

Newton has a big fan base, obviously Mark Cuban does not. He better get the word out to the Mavericks to start voting for him. He is twice the dancer Newton is and yet I am sad to think he may leave first. I don't see him winning at this point but I didn't see Emmitt winning either.

It's early in the game, and it will be great to see who continues to excel and who stumbles and falls out of the competition.

You're right, Chairo, Sabrina is the hip hop girl. I was wrong to include that in my feelings/assessment of Mel B. Mel B is "Scary" Spice, and even though you like her (you don't need to apologize), I still find her need to be "in control" to be like her name in the Spice Girls -- "Scary." I still find her "annoying," but that is just me. I certainly don't expect she is annoying to everybody.

Yes, you're right, Mel B did state she needs to turn over control, but so far it has been just so much lip service. Her comments last night certainly weren't any indication she intends to start doing so anytime soon.

BTW, I felt Sabrina was brilliant last night (as she was the first night). As much as I would like to see Jane or Marie win (I'm currently cheering for the "more mature" woman), I think Sabrina will probably blow them out of the water.

I only asked about votes for the pros because lpatrick stated if she voted for the "cute" or "sexy" guy (in response to an earlier post I made questioning whether women in the audience would vote for other women, etc.) it would be for Maks. Since Maks is a pro, not a star, it got me wondering if people were voting for pros instead of stars, that's all.

I also agree with you that Mark Cuban needs to start doing some campaigning, somewhere. Otherwise, Wayne (who has much more name recognition) is going to get the same votes Jerry Springer and John Ratzenberger got, and he will last longer than Mark. I find Mark to be a hard worker and I hope his hip surgery doesn't impede him too much.

A good group this season. I'm looking forward to watching how things fall out. So many times those who start out with a bang end up not getting any better, or even falling apart by the end, and the slow starters are the ones who end up with the gold.

Right now I'm cheering for Marie/Jane/Helio/Sabrina (in any order).

Now I have to say that I loved J Rat. And I did vote for him a couple of times and one of the reasons was b/c of Edyta. I don't solely vote for a pro...that would defeat the purpose of the show. However, I will say that I could never see myself voting for any star partnered with Ms. Karina Sourpuss...well, maybe if J. Depp was on (like that would ever happen). My vote goes for the team... the star that gives their all (even if their steps aren't perfect) and the pro partner who has been working to get them up to speed. We have to remember that it's the pro's job to do the majority of the choreography, pick the music and help design the costumes. That's a lot of work for a two minute or less dance for us.

Unfortunately, I think votes do go to pros and favorite celebs regardless of whether they dance well or not (Master P comes to mind). I do have favorites but I go by dance technique and how well they do and how hard they try and whether they improve with time. Helio has amazing dance abilities as does Sabrina ( and I am not a Cheetah Girls fan...couldn't even tell you any songs they've sung). It has been a very good start to this year and I see that the women seem to be slightly stronger this year than in years past. Unfortunately Wayne needs to go (can anything above his eyeballs move?) and the model that went last night needed to go as well. The billionaire needs to go as well. JMO...

I disagree about Mark Cuban needing to go. He's trying and it shows. He genuinely wants to be there, there's no hidden agenda and he's working his butt off to prove it. ;)

I agree Mark Cuban should stay. There are worse dancers who should go long before him and WAYNE is a definite. I watched the show and saw the predance stuff and even the judges said nobody is rehearsing as much or putting more into it than Cuban. As long as he is trying and putting in the effort I'd like to see him stay.

Wayne Newton and Floyd have bigger fan bases because of their lives outside this arena. OF course I am not sure how many fight fans actually vote, but with the low score the judges gave to Wayne it is proof his fans are keeping him in the competition even though he can't dance.

In the past it wasn't so bad because George Hamilton at least had some class and kept up in stitches laughing. The entertainment value was worth keeping him. Jerry Springer wasn't totally bad and he had a goal to learn to dance at his daughters wedding and he accomplished that.

Wayne, in my opinion brings nothing to this competition. There are too many who are much better than him ... ALL of them are much better than him.

I for one have never voted for one of the pros. If the star doesn't dance well then I don't vote for them ... not even Maks. I also think it's sort of nice Cheryl got a dud dancer this year. SHe always seemed to get the best in the past. I am glad Karina got Floyd too ... what does Mario see in this woman?

If were going to talk "voting" fan base... I think Sabrina and Cameron might be close to the top. Jennie Garth would be close behind them. JMO on that matter. Cameron is a "daytime soap god" and Sabrina has the "Disney viewers" vote. With Jennie, she'll get votes from her 90210 fame.

I know who Mark Cuban is because I love basketball. If he stays, it's going to be b/c of the effort he's putting in b/c I can't see him having a "fan base."
