I’d like to welcome you to this week’s edition of So You Think You Can Dance. I will be your guest host this week while Funnygirl is in deep negotiations with the Powers that Be for better wages, cooler outfits and benefits. Personally I think all she might come away with is more comfortable chairs for us to sit it, but I am not going to under estimate her powers of negotiations.

Let’s get the important stuff out of the way first. Cat was wearing a stunning dark blue mini dress. Her hair was styled in a very flattering way, pulled back in front and hanging in curls in the back. The show judges who no longer have a say in who stays or who goes were Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Mia Michaels. From this point forward the dancers will be judged by America on an individual basis rather than as couples.

For their solos each danced to the same Wade Robsin choreographed number. The music was “Waiting on the World to Change” by John Mayer. Tonight the dancers also chose new partners for their couple dances. Some got excellent partners and others not so great.

Before we start I’d also like to thank our guest judges, Boo and Jay for their participation in this week’s show. Also joining us for the evening is a mystery judge who will remain anonymous for their own protection (you know how disagreeing fans can be)

First we’ll cover the couples and then move on to the solos.

First up were Lauren and Pasha dancing a Hip Hop routine by Shane Sparks to Fuego by Pitbull. They wore skeleton costumes and fit very well together. Not being a big Hip Hop fan I figured I’d be bored by this routine but it was absolutely awesome. Lauren, as usual you blew me away. I think you are one of the most versatile dancers on the show. Pasha when I heard you were going to do a Hip Hop routine I yawned but you woke me up by meshing very well with Lauren. You were both perfect ‘transformers.’

Jay: I loved the skeleton costumes. Lauren, I loved your energy and passion. Pasha, I felt you were a little tentative and uncomfortable. You supported Lauren well but you could have been move of an equal partner. Overall, not bad.

Boo: I’m still very much into the Transformers movie hype, so I loved this Hip Hop (to be read aloud Russian style if you please) routine. This was a tough one for me because Pasha you are my favorite dancer and you were paired up with my least favorite, Lauren, but together, you did great and you looked like you have been together a long time. Shane Sparks did it again.

Mystery Judge: I love the outfits. Pasha starts sooner than Lauren on a couple of moves. I loved the leg rolls and you both were in sync mostly. Lauren, you have been my favorite since the beginning.

Sabra and Kameron pulled out a Contemporary routine. It was choreographed by Tyce DiOrio and danced to one of my favorite songs, Amazing Grace by Crystal Lewis. I was both elated and deflated by this dance. As usual Sabra you were ‘grace’ in motion. The routine would have been perfect for me if you had done it as a solo. Kameron, you were totally unnecessary to this routine. I didn’t buy your performance and saw no chemistry between the two or you. I will be surprised if you are still here next week.

Jay: It was an outstanding performance. It was strong, graceful, pure. Sabra, what can I say which hasn't been said before? You are magnificent; one of the best dancers, male or female, in the competition. Kameron, you fed off of Sabra and performed well yourself. Well done.

Boo: Kameron, I always forget you know how to do contemporary stuff. It was beautiful with the music and the color of the costumes. I still like you even if everyone else finds flaws everywhere in your performance. Sabra you were excellent but you had even more presence with Dom as a partner.

Mystery Judge: The lift was beautiful. I'm not a huge contemporary fan, but I enjoyed this routine. I watched Sabra more than Kameron. She was beautiful to watch.

Here comes my two favorite dancers, Lacey and Danny. (I must eat crow here and admit that Funnygirl has been right about Danny all along … it just took me awhile to see it) You hit pay dirt when you drew the Samba and Dmitry Chaplin (in top 10 last year) as your choreographer. You lost a little with the song choice of “Hip Hip Chin Chin” by Club Des Belugas.

Lacey, Lacey, Lacey, WOW girl, you were absolutely awesome. I have always expected a lot from you and at times have been disappointed but tonight WOW, did you redeem yourself. Maybe it was you new partner that brought out the best in you, but you would have nailed this one no matter who you danced with. Danny, you have won me over. If the two of you aren’t in the final two I will be totally surprised.

Jay: Individually, both of your performances were quite good. Lacey, I loved your technique, skill and style. Danny, another solid performance. Perhaps it was a result of this new partnership but I didn't feel or see an emotional chemistry.

Boo: Ever since last week, I can’t get over “too much” Lacey, how you seem to be acting. Your dancing steps are surely great, but there is something that I can’t tolerate easily with the emotional part of your dancing. Danny you looked exactly like I expected you to. Special props for Dmitry showing up but… the hair! My dear, what have you done.

Mystery Judge: I LOVE IT! Second best dance of the night for me so far. I love the turning hips and Danny's kicks were awesome. Danny, the ballet movements you pulled off through the dance were beautiful.

Sadly another one of my favorite songs was slaughtered when Jaimie and Dominic danced a Toni Redpath choreographed Viennese Waltz to “Man of La Mancha” sung by Linda Eder. I could have cried when I saw your performance, the only reason I didn’t is because I didn’t want to come off looking like Amber (you had to have been there.) This was very hard to watch. I didn’t like the performance nor the choreography. I have nothing more to say except I expect to see you both in the bottom of the pack this week.

Jay: Jaimie, I am a huge fan of yours but I'm afraid that wasn't one of your better performances. Sure, you did the required moves but it felt a little empty. Dominic, I'm sorry to say that wasn't very good. The dance wasn't smooth nor particularly graceful. Your facial expressions also detracted from the performance. You have a great sense of humor but this dance wasn't the showcase for it.

Boo: I seriously did not see that much of a difference between usual goofy Dom and the one this week. Is it because you were not with Sabra anymore that there seemed to be such a big gap in your abilities? I enjoyed the dance because it was lively. On a side note, what’s with putting you in tight fitting brown pants for the second time? Not that I’m complaining. I do get paid nicely to talk about such things.[and that’s why Funnygirl is in negotiations right now]

Mystery Judge: Dominic seemed stiff and I didn't care for him. I enjoyed the lifts because of the skirt. He's the worst of the two of you and it showed. Dominic your back is always arched like a cat when you dance. Jaimie you have gorgeous follow-thru with your extensions.

Finally our last couple, Sara and Neil are doing the Disco choreographed by Doriana Sanchez to “Knock on Wood” by Rachel Stevens. What a way to end the couple’s portion of this competition. The two of you provided more pure entertainment than any other couple tonight. You fit together perfectly and danced totally in sync. Bravo! I have learned to expect entertainment, great technique and performance from you, Sara but tonight Neil, you were not outshined by your partner. Instead you complimented each other perfectly.

Jay: That dance looked fun to do and was equally fun to watch. You didn't take yourself too seriously which isn't to say you didn't work or practice hard. Great job, both of you.

Boo: Groovy. I usually don’t like it when this choreographer is on the show because the couple getting Disco often falls in the bottom three. Neil, I loooved your gym jumps and most of the steps. The two of you should be safe, considering how Neil seems to be so dang popular.

Mystery Judge: Very fun. I love all the disco routines that are done on this show. Neal you make the turns look good. The outfits were really cool. You were both really in sync with each other. Best dance of the night for me by far!!

With that, dear fans the couple’s portion of the show is over. I must admit it was an exciting evening seeing the new pairings of the dancers. I have always thought, even more than solos, this would separate the great from the mediocre. Too often in this competition a weak dancer has sailed through on the coattails of a great dancer. We look so longingly at the grace of the great, we barely notice how bad the terrible really are. But I digress. It’s time for the solo portion of the competition.

As I mentioned all the contestants are going to be dancing to “Waiting on the World to Change” by John Mayer and choreographed by Wade Robsin. They were all dressed in white pants and white t-shirts with a peace sign on the front and whatever word they chose from a list of positive thoughts provided by Robsin, on the back. Even though they are all doing the same dance to the same music I hope to see them all add a little of their own personality to the dance.

So let the dancing begin.

Jaimie:
Jaimie was up first and personally I wasn’t impressed. Jamie, I expected more of YOU in the dance and all I saw was someone who did exactly what was taught.

Jay: I loved how you used the whole stage. Bravo Jaimie.

Boo: **Read Boo’s comments at the end of the individual reviews

Mystery Judge: You look like a geisha. Your individual moment was confusing. I didn't care for your solo at all.

Dominic:
Dominic, I was very disappointed in your couple’s performance and equally disappointed in this one. At one point it appeared as though you lost your balance and fell backwards. That was when you lost me.

Jay: Your movements were tight and forced.

Mystery Judge: You never fully extended. The entire time it appeared that you were popping. You could tell you are a B-boy.

Sara:
Sara, what passion. I totally enjoyed this performance.

Jay: If I didn't know beforehand and someone said you were a B-girl, I would have said no way. She must be a contemporary dancer. Good job.

Mystery Judge: You were the only one that appeared to be really into the emotions of the piece.

Pasha:
Pasha, when you started off I thought you were going to nail it, but you didn’t

Jay: This style isn't your forte and it showed.

Mystery Judge: It seemed really quick like you just wanted to be over with it. It didn't seem like you felt it, you just went through the motions.

Lauren:
Lauren if you don’t get top votes this week something is wrong. What passion you put into this number. You made it your own.

Jay: Watch out Sabra, Lauren is starting to come on strong.

Mystery Judge: You really followed the beat of the music. I really enjoyed your performance.

Neil:
You took me totally by surprise. Though not technically perfect I did enjoy it. You also personalized the dance instead of doing it by the numbers. Good for you.

Jay: I'm starting to not see anything new from you. From week to week, I want to see something new. Others have shown it and you must also.

Mystery Judge: Your jumps are amazing, really big. You make the whole thing seem effortless. You're so pretty.

Sabra:
You were excellent as usual.

Jay: Best scream of the evening. Also one of the best solos.

Mystery Judge: You took up the entire stage which is not easy for a little girl. You had a great personal moment. I liked your scream.

Kameron:
Kameron, I think we have seen the last of you.

Jay: Your solo was good. Not spectacular but not bad either.

Mystery Judge: It seemed violent and intense. I really didn't enjoy it, it was too sharp.

Lacey:
Powerful, expressive, passionate, stupendous. Great job Lacey it was the best of the night for me.

Jay: Another great performance.

Mystery Judge: You move like you don't have a backbone and that's cool. You make it look effortless. You look like you've been doing this for years.

Danny:
You dance like an angel. I got goose bumps just watching you.

Jay: Along with Sabra, one of the best of the evening.

Mystery Judge: Your dance was really smooth and you looked carefree and into the music.

And now what did judge Boo think of the solos: It was difficult to remember every detail about the dances but I thought Dominic was a bit different from the other solos and not in a bad way. Nobody seemed awful but the one thing that bugged me were the screams in the middle of the song…some of them should not attempt to do this ever again (but really, when will it come up?) I don’t feel there is a need to critique them all one by one. I see it as a tool to see, on an even playing field, who really wants to win. Predictions for the results: Mika being there will make me change the channel.

Jay: Overall the girls' solos were better than the guys'. Who's is danger? I think Jaimie and Dominic could be going home on Thursday night. Finally I'm not a John Mayer fan and to hear one of his songs 10 (!!!) times in an hour and a half is excruciating.

Mystery Judge: Favorites: Girl; Lauren and Lacey Boy; Danny and Neal
Least: Boy: Dominic and Kameron Girl: Jaimie

What do I think? I think Jaimie and either Dominic or Neil will go home, though Neil’s couple’s dance probably saved him if the voters take that into consideration.

So there you have it. The evening’s competition has come to an end. You probably noticed the judges didn’t always agree on who was good and who was bad. That’s okay though because we amicably agree to disagree. Obviously our votes don’t count anyway so tomorrow we will see what America thought.

I will leave you now and head out to the parking lot to grab the club out of my car and take care of anyone who didn’t like who I liked. (I will be amicable about it, I promise) :giggle:

Excellent recap Chairo!! It was a fabulous show with a lot of ups and downs. I liked the one solo for everyone aspect this year. It sort of evens out the playing field and shows how versatile the dancers truly are.

The negotiations went very well. Before I reveal too much, is there anything Boo would like to say? :shifty

Thank you, and please let me know the neat benefits you got for us. I also liked everyone doing the same solo just wish they had each had different music ... or at least something I liked well enough to hear 10 times in an hour. I do hope, if the continue this format, that the dancers will put more of their own spin on them.

I think Nygel was out of line saying that last night and I'm glad that Mary and Mia kind of called him on it. There were distinct differences in the styles as they were dancing. I thought Dominic's (I can't believe I'm saying this) was the best adaptation. I thought Danny's was the most fluid (as only he could pull off) and of the girl's I loved Lauren's rendition. I didn't get all the Lacey and Sabra love for their solos last night. They were okay, but that weren't "awesome, amazing, beautiful".

I want to give Boo a chance to come clean before I report on the negotiations. B)

Okay. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Apparently, Boo is not getting paid to judge, they offered Boo dancing lessons at Arthur Murray so that the judging would have some knowledge behind it. :suspicious:

SO, with that bit of knowledge, I managed to get all future judges some dance lessons from Dfleminator FREE!! Oh yeah, all of us got $50 gift cards from K-Mart for wardrobe each week and the comfy chairs will have massaging mechanisms put in. All but Boo that is. Boo gets to sit on a wooden stool facing the corner. :smug

Last comment? Oh, about the runway training for ANTM, your favorite show?! I don't know why you don't like to talk about it. It's not bragging really. :D
