Easin' into summertime...

Since my birthday in April, I have decided that I'm going to do more than just be a couch potato reality freak. I bought an eliptical trainer, dug out my free weights and started hitting the diet and exercise trail. It took a while for that "click" to kick in, but it finally did. I'm down 17 pounds, feeling a lot better, but have about 80 more to go. ![]() Last week I was feeling pretty dejected, but I found out on Tues. I'm down another 3 pds. So I've reinvigorated myself and got back in full swing. I went for a three mile power walk to the library today and found out that the iPod my daughter so graciously leant me was a huge help! Once I waded through the Hanah Montana's and Cheetah Girls crap, I found she has very eclectic taste and a little nod toward the vintage in her musical taste. Since I can't afford an iPod of my own these days, I'll find the few songs I like from hers and carry on.
What I need is some other ideas to get my cardio up. Any suggestions? |

I have been hitting the gym on a constant basis since February. I have noticed major results and it's so rewarding and nice to not have so much down time. Usually I would get home from work at 4 and do nothing all night. I love doing it and have so much fun with it. FG if you want to get your cardio up try going for walks around the neighbourhood, or go for an easy hike somewhere. I can't bring myself to do a treadmill when I can be outside. Time yourself too. Just keep trying to beat your past times. All this talk is making me want to go back to the gym lol

Neighborhood walks are my specialty. Good tip about the timing of them. I'll definitely do that. I can't afford a gym so I try and come up with new and interesting ways to incorporate the gym in my own home.
Any light meals to suggest for me and the little one would be great too. I usually don't get home until just before 7:00 p.m. It's easier in the summer with the fresh veggies and fruit, but we're looking for some tasty low cal/low fat dishes too. |

There are so many cookbooks like that out their right now. They always have postings up at the gym I go to and the meals look really good. I am not big on the eating part of it because I eat about 4 meals a day, my metabolism rules. lol But deffinetly check out those cookbooks, cause some of the recipies will have you eating like a Queen. |

I will check out the recipes Epheks. I do have to say, you stink! *Sticks out tongue* I've always had to chemically induce my metabolism until I learned about the bonuses of water and a little exercise.

CONGRATS!!
I don't do the gym thing either FG. I love taking walks and bike rides with my kids, and even rollerblade if my back can take it. But brisk walking will improve your cardio dramatically and it's all you really need to get in good health (and without all the pounding of running... ugh). As for food, I just don't eat large meals but pretty much eat throughout the day and never feel really hungry. I find simple substituting can go a long way towards cutting calories. Go for having a burger, (not the big one, just a smaller patty) but skip the cheese and have low fat mayo, heck, even a whole wheat bun... also throw a nice green salad on the side instead of the fries and it's healthy, and pretty satisfying. It's the little substitutes that make a big difference over the course of your day. Also, if you're working out, also treat yourself every day... I eat chocolate EVERY day, and did when I was losing my "baby fat". I just refused to give it up. The pounds came off slower but I always had that to enjoy. Congrats again, fg, I look forward to hearing your updates! Oh, and if you ever need a motivator to walk every day, you could always get a dog.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice toque. However, my two cats would kick the crap out of any dog I could bring home. Their pretty territorial. My goal is to have each kid take a cat when they leave and then get myself a bull-dog.
How hard is it to substitute fries for a side salad? ![]() Oh yeah, today I took a 3 mile walk at a 17 min. per mile pace. I didn't time it like you suggested Epheks only because I was going to the library to drop off some videos and then to the grocery to pick up some fresh veggies for tonight's dinner. Look at me, saving gas and gettin' healthy!

And they are so absolutely adorable. Okay, so I'm home with my ailing 10 year old. Broken toes and a snuffily nose. I've mowed the lawn "before" breakfast. Not good. I got really dizzy toward the end. *Idiot* I'm trying to even out the burn marks from last Monday's trip to the water park. Not attractive and I plan on wearing a strapless shirt and shorts to the teenagers graduation party on Sunday. I'll do a little free weights to lose even more of my "mommy arms" and probably a bike ride later. Tomorrow is my weigh-in at work (we have a group that meets for FREE!). |

Funnygirl I am doing waterobics 5 days a week for an hour each. Have been doing it for about a month now. It doesn't shed the pounds fast (at least not for me) but it has given me more stamina for doing heavier excercize. What I have noticed is that I am getting toned. Took two weeks to lose 2 lbs but only about a week to notice pants weren't so tight. Another thing I did .... and I hate it ... is to start eating breakfast. It has really been a chore and still is to eat so early in the morning but it has helped me be less tired during the day and I am eating healthier. Good luck with your efforts .... I want to see the success for myself that you are having. |

I TiVo the View (cause I LIKE it!) and they had a doctor on the show last Friday because of this new diet pill. He said something to me that was very profound...fat or overweight people only eat about once a day. Thin people generally eat 4 to 5 times a day. Most people believe they have a "slow" metabolism but the fact of the matter is you need food to get your metabolism working. It took me a while to do the breakfast thing too, now I get crabby if I don't have my banana or some oatmeal or even a piece of whole grain toast!

I don't know what diet pill they were discussing but locally Walgreens is going to carry one just approved for over the counter sales called I believe Alle or something like that. I ran into purchase it the day the flyer came out .. due to mfg problems the delivery was delayed. OH am I glad it was. It sells for $49 and $69 .. not sure what the differnce is, maybe quantity .. but I went home and looked it up on the internet and was amazed at the side effects ... very embarrassing side effects over which you have no control. I would hate to be greeting a client and suddenly smell this horrible familiar smell from diaper changing days. Think you get the gist. |

It's Alli. My cell-mate here at work bought it in a moment of weakness. Actually, she says it's not too bad if you stay away from foods high in fats. However, she did say that when you first start to take it, you may want to plan on spending the weekend close to home. ![]() The doctor on the View did recommend it for those women who are morbidly obese as a good jumping off tool and for those who have platued with 5-10 more pounds to go. It does help you to be aware of the fats you put in your body, which would make my carb count look minute in compariosn.

I am bummed ... due to the storm (lightning) yesterday we were chased out of the pool so couldn't finish waterobics class. Lucky I was there 45 minutes early so got some in pool time ... (pool is metal lined so can't be in during storm) Was so looking forward to catching up today, but stupid me stepped off a five inch step at work and landed hard on my right knee ... just completed medical care for pulled muscle in left foot ... so once again I will have to miss the class ... probably would go if just swollen knew but also got bad abrasion and the chlorine would kill me. FG .. I have found my best walking partner is my sweet Sami ... minature long haired dauchand (sp ... you;d think I could spell my own dogs breed) Being a female dog I don't have to stop at every tree in sight. Good luck FG |

The followings are habits of my daily life, and not to be followed if unsuitable: - For dieting, I usually only have 2 meals a day: brunch and dinner. - Doing sit-ups helps to trim the fats around the tummy and get abs. You don't have to lift yourself up all the way for your elbows to touch your knees - you can try hanging in midway in between. That gives it more workout. When I get crazy, I usually do about 200, with intervals. - Reduce snacking, and eat only when necessary. Think a lot before you eat anything. |

It's all relative around here dflem. ![]() I did 25 miles on my bike yesterday! Right before I took my 41 year old arse over to my 18 year old daughter's graduation party! I looked and felt fabulous!! I was able to abstain from the fried chicken. Instead I had a little bit of my mom's potato salad (which is to die for!) and some sausage and saur kraut. Oh yeah, some cheese and wheat crackers and tons of water! I'm so excited to get on the scale again this week!

Congrats FG, wish I was having such success. Seems like fate is against me. But I have been watching what I eat ... I watch every fork full that goes into my mouth LOL ... no really ... cut out all the snacking but when you have to eat out every single day it is hard. Will get back to waterobics tonight but then two days without. It's a conspiracy I think. |
