Will it be Jordin or Blake? Or would you rather watch Lost? I pick the latter. But if you pick either of the first two, talk all about it right here!

So I TiVo'd both...though Lost was more for a friend.

I liked the Idol finale'. It seemed so incomplete without Fantasia though. :(

I'm happy that the real singer won the title this season! :yay: I have to say that the break-out star (or the "Daughtry") from this season will be...Sanjaya!! He's just so darn cute!!

I could have done without the 2 min. of Tony Bennet and the stupid Idol awards. The only saving grace was the big-lipped dude that was on both AI and SYTYCD won an award and we didn't have to endure his/her (?) acceptance speech. :giggle:

I zipped through most of the garbage with the ol' FF button- which was 95% of the show.

Highlights:
Gladys Knight sounded and looked great.
Tony Bennett- the guy is 85 or something and is having voice problems, but he can still bring it.
Steve Perry- forget he was on stage with Sanjaya, who was using the last 2 minutes of his 15 minutes of fame, Steve Perry must owe Clive Davis or Arista Records a huge favor to do the show.
Green Day- nice job on the John Lennon tune. Too bad the Sgt. Pepper thing, even with Joe Perry, was horrible.
Jordin winning.

Lowlights- Everything but the above. Kelly Clarkson sounded horrible, as did Hicks, Studdard doing the Beatles(?), as expected Sanjaya, all the ensemble tunes with every contestant who ever tried out it seems. Why don't they just let anyone who has ever done the show get up there and show us again why they didn't win? Afterall, the people voted them gone and we have to endure them again after being asked to leave- what's up with that?

Here's a thought- get rid of all those stupid awards. All they do is provide a reason for seriously misguided people to try out. Then they get a huge forum or even onstage where the host and judges patronize them to the point of embarassment. Seriously, Seachrest was talking to some of those folks as if they were mentally and emotionally handicapped and it is unfortunate the producers of this show need to fill time by furthering the exploits of those who should be spending their time in therapy or at least medicated, not trying out for a TV show.

I think some of those people ARE mentally and emotionally challenged, Anybodyhome. :(
That's part of the reason this show makes me slightly queasy when I watch it. If they want to make fun of arrogant know it alls who are full of themselves, fine. But picking on people like that is just kind of sick. I only listened in a bit this year (while on the computer). I used to watch faithfully, but my annoyance with the show has built up over the years... and the "Idol gives back" show was the final straw to put me off the American version for good...
I may still check out the Canadian one... maybe.

How rude is it that someone has a problem and needs to talk during the finale of a show you have watched all season? Well that happened to me LOL

I did catch some off and on and agree though the program on the whole was not bad, there was just too much padding with things we really didn't care about.

I am glad Jordin won. I would have been happy if Blake won. Both will have careers in music in the future as will Melinda and probably a few others.

Sanjaya I think is a flash in the pan. Already they say his online 'search' is going down rapidly. His sister is getting more hits than he is. It's possible he could be another Shawn Cassidy and other performers who fade to nothing when their teeny bopper fans begin to mature.

It may surprise no one but if their is a breakout star from this season I believe it will be Jordin and Blake. The eliminated contestants may have carreers but none are quite as good as these two.

I was surprised to hear Chris D. was the breakout star from last year. I wouldn't have guessed that one. But I did always like him ... his music is a little wild for my taste.

I thought Taylor was awesome. Liked his first song better than the second but on the whole I was not disappointed with my pick from last year.

I also thought Rubin and Jordin did a good job. I was never a Rubin fan but did really like that duet.

Sadly anything Blake did last night I missed. I did DVR it however so will take a look later.

To sum it up this wasn't a bad year of performers though in the beginning it sounded like Melinda would walk away with it and leave the others in the dust.

I was wondering if, the week she was sent home, if anyone else caught the fact as they were about to go to break Ryan said we will be back to send Melinda home .... in later information provided by Melinda he was actually talking about her trip home, but turned out to be prophetic ... or not since I also read that Ryan knows in advance who is leaving. Maybe a slip that wasn't really a slip.

Now I guess we turn our attention to So you think you can dance and the vast number of new reality shows about to start. See you all on the Pirates Ship, or dance floor, or ??????

I hate to break this to all of you Sanjaya haters, but the kids 15 min. has only just begun. He's a favorite on several shows and has had many offers so he'll be around for a long time to come. Will he win any Grammy's, or an Oscar, I doubt it, but he'll be flooded with Kids Choice Awards and have a pretty good career in the entertainment industry. He's adorable and I like him as a role model for my 9 year old. :smug

I thought Taylor and Kelly both sounded wonderful. EW did an interview with Clarkson about her latest creation and she is NOT having problems with her label or Mr. Davis. They wanted her to put out another album like Breakaway and she felt the need to record some of her own tunes. She gave the cuts to Davis months ago, but he had a hard time releasing this edgier version of Kelly. It sounds great and I recommend it to those rockers!

NO, no surprise at all

Funnygirl ... please don't think I am a Sanjaya hater. I think the kid is adoreable and he has a genre that is right for him. I just never thought AI was the right place for him ... of course without it, he probably would not be getting the offers he gets now.

I will also admit, like everyone else, I used to look forward to seeing the hairdo of the week.

My granddaugther loves him and that's fine with me. It's just that preteen idols usually don't last as long as other performers because the preteens grow up quickly and the next group find another idol to adore.

Michael Jackson was probably the most known exception to this rule but I believe that was because he grew up with his fans and changed his music as both he and the fans matured.

What about Christina Agulerra (sp?), Hillary Duff, Mandy Moore, Brittany (I'm a hobilly) Spears? Not to mention Justin TImberlake, Nick Lachey, etc. There's a market for them and they can get beyond the Disney crowd as they grow if there is any real talent.

I really don't think you're a hater at all Chairo. :D

I've actually listened to most of Daughtry and I enjoy a good rock tune, but a lot of the tunes are very similar in vocal performance and the entire CD is a bit much of the same.

I did catch the slip of Ryan, believe it or not, and it was all a little prophetic, eh? My first reaction was Melinda's elimination, but shortly after realized he may have been talking about her trip home for the weekend.

FG, I've never had a problem proclaiming my dislike of Sanjaya. Please don't take it personally, but I'm 51, married with no kids (3 Godchildren, a couple nephews, etc.) and my wonderful wife and I enjoy nothing more than traveling to see rock concerts wherever we have to just to see who we want to see. If the closest venue to see The Who is Madison Square Garden- we're going. Perhaps if I had children of my own who took an interest in AI, I might have a different perspective, but for now I'd like to see more progressive stuff.

I reserve the right to change my mind- perhaps I should take the adage of the NBA, "Don't hate the player, hate the game," a step further and understand I should be hating on the judges for even thinking the guy was a serious talent for AI.

There is a market for all the artists you mentioned- just not my neighborhood. They are all making huge bucks for a reason, I just haven't figured out what that is yet. Heck, anyone of those you mentioned could walk up to me on a street corner and I would have no idea who they were by looking at them.

Is there going to be another incarnation of Rock Star: INXS or Supernova? Anyone heard of anything coming down the pike.

I don't think there will be another Rock Star Anybodyhome... Rock Star: Supernova didn't do so well in the end.

I didn't take your comments personally anybodyhome. I just think the kid is taking a lot of heat for having a little sparkle to him. ;)

The closest thing to a "Rock Star" show we'll see is this Band thing that Fox is trying to put together, but it doesn't sound like they are close enough to air it this summer. I could be wrong though.

It's funny because after watching the Idol red carpets, talk shows, etc. it seems like most of the folks who weren't in the top 4 are doing hosting type jobs. :laugh Some I don't mind, but others I scratch my head at.
