I have been listening at a talk show this morning about the Idol results. The older voters were backing Melinda. The younger and I mean teens and young adults voted for Jordin, who was the first one told she was in the finals.
Those who like the 'something' different Blake brings voted for him.

There were also comments about Melinda not have 'the look' and being less marketable than Blake and Melinda.

Don't know when everyone was dying their hair black, including Elvis, because there was a certain 'look' that appealed to women ... through research they discovered at THAT time, dark hair was what women loved ... blonds they associated with being feminine.

So, though I don't know what today's LOOK is unless it is having studs in your nose and men with streaked hair, wearing plaid and stripes together, but Blake and Jordin appear to have it and the SOUND the market targets like

:confused I don't think Melinda has ANYTHING to worry about.

I was not surprised (even though I did miss the performances).

Elliot Yamin was amazing last night. I stopped at Coconuts this morning and grabbed his CD. It's s-m-o-o-t-h!!!

Funnygirl, I agree .. Elliot sounded great. Like his new look too, but think I'd tame the hair just a smidge. He pretty much told the 3 finalists whether they win or not they have careers ahead of them ... he knew that from experience.

I don't think we have heard the last of a number of this years contestants. I also don't think it really matters of the final 3 or 2 which wins ... it's just a title and they will all be famous some day .. .well more famous ... Look at Sanjaya since he left .. losing didn't hurt him at all

I'm not really surprised Melinda left then. She is older and a little more "looks challenged" than the other two for the teen audience.

The Tuesday performances and the Wednesday results shows both gave me more ammo than I normally need to start this week's salvo of opinions.

Performances: If there was one thing that rang very true and obvious to me with each performer doing 3 tunes was the constant monotone of Blake's voice. Doesn't matter what song he's doing, the voice remains in the same key, very little emotional inflection, little affect and I think his CD will be 12 songs that almost all sound alike. The 3 songs he did on Tuesday certainly sounded similar.

Why was Jordin criticized by Simon for singing a song "too old" for her, but Blake did "Roxanne" which was recorded by the Police long before he was born, I'm sure. Also, Melinda did "Nutbush City Limits" originally recorded by Ike & Tina Turner in 1973, also well before Melinda's time- so enough with that crap. Not even a decent reason to criticize; in fact, it should have been a huge credit to Jordin that she did the song so exceptionally well although it was an older tune.

Results: I DVR the show so I can zip through all the crap (first 45 minutes) and get to the reason for the show. I did stop and play the Elliot performance and found myself FF'ing through the last 30 seconds of a seemingly endless, droning, boring tune I thought would never end. Nice to see he got his teefers fixed, though.

I'm a little surprised at the results, thinking it would be Jordin and Melinda in the finals. I thought Blake's 3 songs would really show LISTENERS that his tunes all sound alike, as I opined earlier. Melinda will have a recording deal done within a week, as will the second place finisher. I see Jordin winning this thing.

Anybodyhome, I agree with a lot of what you said, however I do like Blake and I can hear differences in his songs. He is unique. I was reading an article earlier that stated only a handful of performers can do the Beatbox and do it as well as Blake. I love his uniqueness.

Jordin is just the complete package. There is very little negative I could say about her. Melinda on the other hand as mentioned earlier just doesn't appeal to the demographic that buys the CD's

Yesterday I was sure the finalists were going to be Melinda and Jordin based on the DialIdol predictions, however I have since found a much more accurate indication. Somewhere on this vast space called cyber I found something call the Buzz .. not sure where ... and they base their predictions on how many searches are done on a particular person (Funnygirl you will be happy to know Elliott has jumped in the searches recently)

They were right on the money and actually think Jordin will be the winner. I am beginning to agree with others about winning this thing not being the best result for these kids. They are pretty much tied down and can't accept the offers the non winners can.

Another thing that may or may not make some of you happy is that Sanjaya has dropped in the search meters.

All I know is that my 9 year old said Jordin would win and lately she's never wrong. *sigh* :oooo
