Did I hear right? Sanjaya is sent packin'? If it is true I am glad, he was being bashed everywhere over a T.V. show by many people who couldn't give a damn about the show. Just shows how mean people can be for the sake of being mean.

He is gone. I felt kinda bad for him when everyone cheered as soon as he got the boot... I couldn't imagine standing on stage in front of 1000s of people that really didn't like me, and then having to sing.

You could tell when Simon saw the bottom 3 he was very sure he knew who was leaving ... his huge grin was something he couldn't hide.

I wanted Sanjaya gone ... he didn't belong on this show, but I too was disturbed by the cheers and lack of compassion for someone who just had their dreams destroyed

I would think the hardest thing for the 'booted' contestant to do would be to go out on the stage and sing their swan song. They are not given time to grieve or get over the terrible news. If they want to show their progression on the show, but I think they should just let the one leaving have time with his fellow contestants and forget the last song.

I don't have a problem with any of that. Remember, they made the choice to be there, it's not as though they were forced.

As for Sanjaya, who will really know how the "voting viewers" cast their phone ballots? Again this week, fewer people watched Tuesday's show, but again a record number of votes?

The idea of singing thew song that resulted in one getting their butt voted off seems kinda strange, but also shows how canned the show is- you'd think they could do one of the tunes they may have had some success with.

I would agree about the final song for the boot anybodyhome, but then you would lose the element of surprise. They could ask them all each week if it's them, which song, but then you're adding yet another thing on a "to do" list that is quite long.

I thought the reaction was rediculous. What irks me the most is there are a bunch of adults leading this onslaught. :no Is it any wonder why somebody would want to open fire against those who have judged and made them feel less than? I think we, as adults, need to find our compassion.

I didn't see the show but it sounds like the crowd reaction was not nice. As much as we all wanted to see Sanjaya go I think the crowd probably just got caught up in the moment without thinking of how it would make a (isn't he just 15?) kid feel.

Still...I'm sure the right decision was made. It's time for the "real" competition to continue.

I personally couldn't care less about the reaction of the fans in the TV studio audience. If the contestant, whoever it may be, is naive enough to believe everyone is going to like him or her, then maybe the show needs to implement some sort of age restriction. Afterall, there is a maximum age for performers, why not a minimum age if we're going to be more concerned with the feelings of a contestant over the talent he or she may or may not possess?

Where's that same compassion, understanding and basic human courtesy when it comes to Paula Abdul, who people label as "stoned, incoherent," etc. or when the audience jeers and boos Simon Cowell when he speaks the truth about a performance?

This is supposedly "reality TV" and the reality of life is this- one's true strength and character in the face of long odds and adversity define that individual more than the actions of those around him.

Sanjaya is 17. I thought there was a minimum age but maybe I am wrong.

I think we have all forgotten the greatest commandment .... to treat others as we would like to be treated.

I think when the crowd boos Simon they are prompted to do so .... I have been at some live shows and tapings and ALWAYS there was someone holding up signs that said applaud, laugh, boo etc.

I say this because during initial introductions Simon normally gets the loudest applause. Also if you read anything at all Simon is the best liked of the judges. He gets the publicity and people actually like him. Until Idol I had never heard of Randy Jackson.

Still, we must remember that these are children trying out for this show. They are trying to grab hold of a dream few of us have a chance at. I applaude anyone who tries ... even if they fail. It is better to fail at something then to never try to rise above your current position.

I wanted Sanjaya gone. BUT I would never cheer his demise. I would hope others would give me the same compassion. He had tears in his eyes realizing one of his greatest dreams had just come to an abrupt end. How can anyone applaud the loss of a dream?

I hope and pray that he finds his success elsewhere. Even if it is in music for the children who loved him so much

NOW having said that --- Lakisha and Blake in the bottom two??!! NO WAY. Chris and Phil in the top 3 NO WAY! I swear when the divided up the groups I had no idea which was which. Since Melinda wasn't in either group that didn't provide any help. When I saw Jordan put over with Phil and Chris I cringed because I figured she had just joined the bottom 3. No way could my mind work around Lakisha being in the bottom group OR Blake. I don't think Lakisha has been doing as well as in the beginning but to be lower in the voting than Phil .. NO WAY

The only reason Chris wasn't in the bottom 3 is because of the debacle the media created about the rolling of eyes by Simon.

Yes way!! Lakisha has looked bored out of her mind lately. PHil has been trying his hardest and he's found his niche! I"m glad he's still there and I hope he outlasts Chris and Blake since he's got a better voice!

As someone who enjoys Lakisha, I have to say I'm not completely surprised... Phil did really well this week. Lakisha doesn't seem to be all that interested... she seems a bit like LaToya... great voice, but a little boring.

I think you hit it dfleminator. Lakisha does have a good voice but she picks boring songs and doesn't really seem to get into what she is doing. I don't know if any of you have heard Jerry Lewis sing, when he was younger but he had a really nice voice with great pitch, but he just didn't cut it as a singer when he had a partner with the charism of Dean Martin. That is sort of how I think of Lakisha. Great voice but no charism.

You're not serious about Randy Jackson, are you? As a musician he's played and toured with Journey, Bob Dylan, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Mariah Carey, Tracey Chapman, Celine Dion, Bon Jovi... among others.

In the studio he's produced Eddie Money, Trisha Covington, Richard Marx, Gladys Knight and that list goes on as well...

Needless to say he's a pretty accomplished musician both in front and behind the sound boards.

"...remember these are children trying out for this show." Get real! This is the record industry, a multi-billion dollar business with the potential winner of this show either making or breaking millions of dollars of investment. Trust me that every one of the top 10 who will do the post-TV show tour is already represented by both legal and industry minds, so don't play the "children" card. If you want a children's show or if you honestly believe Idol is that type of show, then take it off prime-time and put it on Nickelodean between Hannah Montana and That's So Raven or whatever- but stop being so naive as to believe these innocent little kids have no idea what they're getting into.

Have you ever heard of parents pushing kids into fulfilling their dreams rather than the dreams of the child. I am not saying these are mindless 2 year olds but they are not adults (ie Sanjaya and Jordan) and they do not have the experience to know what they might be getting themselves into. I am sure all they can see are the stars and the money.

You just proved my point .. Randy Jackson, though I personally had never heard of him is an experienced, worldly person. As are the other two judges. I would like to believe my daughter didn't have that kind of knowledge and experience when she was 17.

There are even adults who set fantastic goals for themselves with no idea what the consequences might be or what the journey to acheive that goal might bring down on them.

My whole point is that these are 'children' regardless of age, who are stepping out into the unknown (for most of them) and trying to reach the unreachable star. I applaude all of them for this. BUT, as an ADULT, I would find myself in tears if treated the way some of the judges treat these contestants.

I believe if I had been Sanjaya and the audience cheered when I was booted, I am of the type, who would have crawled into a shell and perhaps never try anything that was out of my immediate reach again.

I know big business but are you asserting that all of those involved as idol wannabes understand just what that curtails. Some probably, others maybe, but all of them, not a chance.

How many people have dreamed for something only to get it and find that sometimes the price is higher than they dreamed?

Take Elvis ... do you think that young boy from Memphis or Tupolo, depending on the age, had any idea that his love of music would end up killing him, because he couldn't deal with all that he lost to get all that he gained.

How many celebrities have killed themselves whether intentional or accidental because the dream cost more than they could pay? You only have to pick up any rag magazine at any checkout counter to see that fame isn't all it's cracked up to be.

So YES these are naive children, who really don't know what the future may bring and yet they (or their parents) are willing to take the chance on fame, and I for one do not think they need to be ridiculed for trying to follow their dreams.

Normally, I would take your side over anybodyhome's chairo, however, he's right. They do know what they are getting into. If you get the channel, watch this week's American Idol Extra. They do the interviews after the elimiantion show. Sanjaya said that his mother asked him to wait a year and gain more "life" experience, but he wanted to go now.

I too felt bad for the "child" standing on that stage while all the adults were screaming because he was finally gone. He was sad and crying, but it was because he was no longer part of the show. He admitted it was tough to hear some of the judge's criticism, but he knew it was just them trying to entertain their way like he was trying to entertain his.

A different view to thsi argument is that we are dealing with a lot of horrific moments as the tragic events of Kansas City bombings and Columbine mark their anniversaries. I think we all need to start thinking before speaking and criticizing an individual because you don't appreciate their talent. Don't hate the player, hate the game...

I stand corrected. I have never watched anything but the show itself, so don't know what these people say before and after. Booooooo Sanjaya
