I thought Jordan was the best of the night. Unfortunately will have to watch most of it tomorrow since a call interrupted. I was not impressed with Lakisha and missed Melinda's song. Is Ryan in love with Sanjaya?!? It sure looked that way LOL. He was awful tonight. His voice isn't that bad but he doesn't know how to use it. |

And I need not repeat the fact that I simply do not "get" country music, don't like the sound of it and think the lyrics are as simple enough to be written by elementary schoolers, but here's the story from last night... Phil actually sounds as though he finally found a genre he can sink his teeth into. He was right on note the entire song and, obviously me not knowing the song, didn't sound as though he tried to change it up too much. Easily his best performance to date. Jordin Sparks is simply incredible. I think Melinda is going to win, but I think the other half of the final pair is Jordin. She flat out stood and delivered. Then the walls came tumbling down.......... Sanjaya was absolutely horrible again. His performance was worse than a lot of the auditions before the competition really began. It was just plain bad and even the kiddies have to realize that enough is enough of this and the judges are starting to exert some influence and aren't pulling punches at this point. That very well could have been the worst performance going back to the first 24! LaKisha sang well but looked as though she could not have cared less about being there- a look she's had for several weeks now. I don't know what it is, but I completely agreed with Simon last night when he said she hasn't really performed anything of substance since she did the Jennifer Holliday song weeks ago. Could be a very good singer, but I don't see any commitment, desire or excitement about anything from her. Chris sang this nasally, twingy-twangy thing that made no sense to me and I though it was pretty boring and non-sensical. Then he tried to convince Simon that nasally is a form of singing... I just didn't get it at all. Blake did something else that almost didn't sound too country, maybe he changed it up or something because the vocals sounded like a 1960's British pop tune, almost Donovan- esque. It was almost cleary a Brit accent and there was nothing about the performance to suggest it was country, so I don't know. A rather boring evening for me- it's rather clear the show needs to move on and change up the format slightly or just make it a shorter show. 60 minutes for 7 songs with a commercial break between every performer... thank you DVR and fast-forward!!! |

I voted for Jordin AND Melinda! I couldn't pick so I gave them both a call. I agree that the show is way too drawn out. I usually start the show, give the kids a bath and then I and the 4 year old return to watch it, FF through all the commercials and performances if they bore me (Blake and Chris lately). |

I hope you don't mind, but you managed to cover all the bases brilliantly and I wanted to give it my country music lovin' stamp too.
Sometimes it's the simplest lyrics that can say so much. A lot of the blockbuster songs you hear were written by country musicians.
Totally agree with you. Granted, he didn't change the song at all, but it was perfect for his voice. I was pleasantly surprised. Last year, two people tried to sing Keith Urban and failed. I disagree with Simon's assertion that it wasn't enough to save him!
I think Jordin has an edge over Melinda in that she can keep up with her vocally, but her personality is a bit more infectious. I yanked the phone away from my 9 year old to give her a vote. This was absolutely superb!
It was a huge risk doing a song that is covered constantly on this show. It could have been a cute idea, but he blew it vocally. I don't think it's the worst we've EVER seen as you do because even though the vocals were harsh, he's got something that is likable and entertaining. My 9 year old tied up the phone lines voting for him...just so you know. ![]()
Lakisha did NOT sing well. She started out okay, but did some major damage to the entire melody. I had to fast forward because my ears couldn't take it. I think the judges were being overly kind to her. I concur about the bored look about her anybodyhome.
THIS was the worst performance of the evening. I don't know if he was just in shock and awe over what happened on Monday like he said or he has just proven that he cannot sing. He totally ripped off the nasally bit from the lead singer of the group who covered this song. (Rascall Flats) It's the one thing about the group I don't like. One thing you need to know about Rascall Flats and the music they sing is that they are known for their harmonies.
I hate when artists think by throwing in a mandolin or a fiddle it automatically makes it a country song. Tim McGraw covered this and it went to number 1 for a few weeks. I ddn't get the song at all, but because it was so easily a crossover song, it did well. It was a brilliant choice by Blake because it sounded the least country of them all. I do have to say this is the only performance of his that I liked this season. Melinda Doolittles performance was outstanding! Unlike Ms. McBride and the judges, I have heard this song before and I have to say, I like Melinda's version of it better.
I enjoyed this evening, mostly because it's a genre I love to watch people struggle with and when it's done well, it's really enjoyable. My predictions for bottom 3: Lakisha, Chris, Sanjaya and hopefully we'll say buh-bye to the overh-hyped Chris R. |

Some of the top song writers are indeed country. Kris Kristofferson wrote the Janis Joplin hit, "Me and Bobby McGee" which he later sang in the 'country' genre for which it was intended. I can't even name all the songs he has written but it is an awesome number. Mac Davis is another fantastic songwriter who favors country but has been covered by a lot of singers. I am predicting Jordan will take the prize. |

Okay, I'll admit I have no idea what LaKisha was singing, except that it didn't sound like Carrie Underwood- something my wife made mention of, "She sure isn't even close to Carrie." But I'll take your word for it that she didn't sing it very well. Regardless, I just don't think she has her head or heart in the game anymore and I do believe she was a front-runner early on, but now she'll be lucky to make the top 4. Bottom 3: Sanjaya, Chris and LaKisha- with Chris or Sanjaya. Next week- please, some rock and roll. |
