I'm new to this show, but I wasn't overwhelmingly impressed. A lot of that, though, could be the theme for the week - these just weren't songs that showcase vocal talent, yet these poor kids kept getting criticized for having that exact type of song. Idiots. |

So I have this friend on myspace who re-posts a bulletin from her friend, Pete, each week. They are usually amusing and I thought I would re-post here. Pete has been tallying scores each week of the competition and has a leader board at the bottom of the post: Oh dear... tonights Idol... well, it pretty much sucked. If you sneak a peek down below you will see two of my least favorite contestants (Sanjaya and Jordin) managed to sneak into my top 4 this week. Yeah, it was that bad. Despite all the bad, there were two very strong performances this evening - Melinda and Blake. Melinda delivered a sexy, subtle and of course, vocally perfect performance. Blake picked the perfect song, sang it well and drew the audience in, just as he does week after week. Will they be our two finalists this year? Possibly. But for now let's just say there is no question that we will see them both advance to at least the Final Four. Jordin and Sanjaya... sigh... they are both very popular... they both annoy me... they both can actually sing (although they both tend to hit a lot of bad notes)... this week they were actually ok. Jordin was a bit boring, but she sounded okay and I kinda bought what she was selling. Sanjaya picked a good song for his voice... if this was my first time seeing him, I might have been even more impressed than I am willing to admit here. As for Lakisha, Phil, Chris and Haley... blah. Lakisha always sounds good, but she seemed uncomfortable and bland on stage tonight... this could be a bottom 3 week for her. Phil can sing, but he shows absolutely no emotion. Chris looked hot, but was off key most of the performance. And Haley? Looked slutty as usual... sang like she was in a high school talent show. And the rankings... THIS WEEK 1 - Melinda Doolittle 2 - Blake Lewis 3 - Jordin Sparks 4 - Sanjaya Malakar 5 - Lakisha Jones 6 - Phil Stacey 7 - Chris Richardson 8 - Haley Scarnato OVERALL 1 - Melinda Doolittle (78) 2 - Blake Lewis (68) 3 - Lakisha Jones (66) 4 - Jordin Sparks (48) 5 - Chris Richardson (47) 6 - Phil Stacey (37) 7 - Haley Scarnato (21) 8 - Sanjaya Malakar (18) Who SHOULD go home::: Sanjaya (bottom 3 - Haley and Phil) Who WILL go home::: Haley (bottom 3 - Phil and Lakisha) |

I thought last night's show was very interesting. I loved Sanjaya's performance and I want to know when he had time to lunch with Constantine? I liked his look, he sounded wonderful and he was just so shiny.
I also liked Haley's performance last night. It was a bit cabaret, but it was a heck of a lot more interesting than Lakisha's. (Don't even get me started). I didn't like Blake at all last night. There's just something about him that reads smarmy to me. I can't put my finger on it though. ![]() Melinda and Jordin are still stars to me. Phil wasn't nearly as bad as they said he was and Chris' voice was horrific. I'd really like to sit behind the judges at one of these live shows to get an idea of what it is they're hearing because I generally disagree with them regarding the vocals in this competition. |

For the first time I have to say Sanjaya did a good job last night. I imagine Simon would have rather swallowed his tongue than give Sanjaya praise but he swallowed his pride instead and gave praise where praise was due. I still think he should be gone because he has very limited appeal, Jordan and Blake are still my top two favorties. I will be very happy if they go head to head in the finals. Jordan is imppressive for her age and I can't believe the power in her voice. Blake just hits the spot for me. Can't really put it into words but whatever "it" is he has IT for me. Melinda, Lakisha ... again, flawless numbers but I just wasn't impressed. As with most I flt Lakisha had the most boring presentation. Melinda I believe as way out of her comfort zone unless this shy girl act has been just that ... an act Haley or Phil can bid adieu tonight and I wouldnt even pause to take a breath. Chris leaving might give me pause, but not for long. Guess we will see tonight how the public voted. |

ROFL! The Ghost of Constantcrap has come back yet again. Blake or Jordin for the win. I've got to admit that I don't think Blake is that good of a singer and I wonder why the judges seem to like him so much. I'm not used to liking a contestant that the judges praise. :shifty He's just entertaining to me I guess. Sanjaya's mustache is the most disturbing thing I've seen on this show so far. |

Oh, great! As if this season wasn't bad enough, now there's rumor of a Sanjaya/Constantine hookup? Time for this show to borrow from one of the original, all-time funniest hours of television ever conceived- The Gong Show- and bring back the prop that ended so many a budding, young, fresh entertainment career. The best part of the show was watching J-Lo with the contestants, she was more real and grounded than any of the previous mentors and actually acted as though she cared. It's interesting that viewership has dropped over the past 3 weeks by upwards of 5 million viewers per week, but the supposed number of "votes" is ever increasing. If you thought this week's Latin theme was completely foreign to this group, wait til next week when it's Country night! I already hate country (as does Simon and he readily admits it) and the thought of Sanjaya doing country makes me get that little bit of vomit up in my throat. Undoubtedly, we'll probably see someone do the Osmonds "I'm a Little Bit Country" actually thinking the Osmonds were country singers. Add to my list of "mentors" that already includes Ozzy, Ted Nugent, the alive half of Milli Vanilli, and others- Rick Springfield. |
