Overall, hearing the males sing, they all lacked a whole lot of voice.

The judges seem to be all useless nothing negative or even constructive. And I hate the names that they've come up with for them ("Wholesome Danny" and "Hot Danny").

Austin did terrible with "Mony Mony" in my humble, yet entirely correct opinion.

Allie is singing "I Love Rock And Roll"

What the heck? Awful song choice, absolutely dreadful.

Kate does "All By Myself" trying to belt it out, but ends up coming screechy.

And we have two back, "second chance Danny" and "second chance Sandy"...

Matt destroys Pretty Women... that was terrible!

Now Ashley is singing "You're Still The One"... and it's not al that great from the start.

Wow... I can't believe they brought these two back... Absolutely terrible.

Let's see what the judges have to say. Kathleen calls them "a little tentative"? Oh my... The British judge is telling them to work on the vocals... so glad that he told the truth.

Max's Summer of 69 was the best of the night imo

I think that was a bad idea to bring those two back since they will probably be voted right back off and I'm sure that's not gonna help the ego much.

I like the other Ashley tonight and I liked Derek for some reason tonight as well.

I guess we shall see what next week brings.

I did my votes on the nbc site, so much easier than phoning.

My picks after last night Ashley (from OH) and Derek. However I'd prefer to seem them perform as pairs to see if there is any chemistry. Olivia Newton John was a welcome site but didn't really add anything to the show. At least Idol gives constructive criticism and lets the public know what they think. These judges or panel or whatever offered nothing. If this is so important to the production you'd think they'd at least let the voters know who might and who might not cut it

Not a bad show. I agree that Matt and the cry baby should have stayed home. They were awful! Tentative my arse!!

I think the reason why they aren't going full-on Simon Cowell; however, they also have to sell this show when this is over. They were a little constructive, but after having all this time to practice there really was no excuse. I wonder who is picking the songs for them. Max is my least favorite contestant (not including Matt and cry baby). He's more of a Doody than a Danny! :laugh

More Doody than Danny....lmao

I didnt' like at the end of the show when all the judges gave their opinion on the top two and Olivia Newton John opted not to choose....dang that is what your there for. At least the audience can get an idea who they think is the best for the show.

nawlinsgal that was my complaint in an earlier post .... she was nice to look at but added nothing to the show. Having played the part you'd have thought she could have given some pretty good insight to the girls trying out. They say Andrew Lloyd Webber will be there next week. I think he is great and can't name a better show than Phantom of the Opera or Joseph dream coat of Jesus Christ Superstar (to name of few of his) but will he be another Newton John or will he actually provide information the contestants can use.

If the panel isn't there to offer honest criticism, even if it is bad, then I see no point in having them except to add to the length of the show. Maybe they all want to be NICE but nice isn't going to make the show good if the wrong people get picked. They need to be more forthcoming on what/who will work and what/who will fail.

I think they will as the show progresses. David had no problem being "truthful" during Grease Academy. They are giving them constructive criticism.

Chairo, I think we're just so used to having at lest one judge blast the contestants that when we see it done nicely and tastefully it seems to be lacking.

But there's a difference between constructive criticism done nicely and tastefully, and full out unwarranted praise.

It's subjective dflem. You could tell David was frustrated with the 2 that got to come back, boy did the prove teh judges were right in the first place!

Is one boy and one girl going home this week?

I think so funnygirl.

But really they basically told everyone but the two who obviously sucked, that they were amazing (which simply was not the case). You can be subjective to a certain extent, but to say that all of those performances (with the exception of two) were typical Broadway performances either says a lot about Broadway, or the judges.

Funnygirl, I don't enjoy seeing contestants belittled or absolutely wounded but to say nothing is just as bad. Dancing with the stars I think does the best job of offering constructive criticism without tearing someone apart. Of course if I were the judges on Idol I don't know how I would react myself. Most of those who try out have to be tone deaf not to know how bad they are

The thing about this show is that the finalist are all fairly good. However how can they know what they need to work on if all the get is praise? I am still of the mind that it doesn't matter how good any of them are individually if the final two have no chemistry the show will fail.

Newton John and Travolta just meshed like they were made for each other and the audience is going to be judging the new Danny and Sandy based on the originals.

You think of the greastest love story movies and always the actors with the best chemistry made the movies great. Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara are the epitomy of what we want to see in a movie romance. (or on stage)

The panelists (i guess they don't call themselves judges) I feel are letting themselves in for a real fall if they don't step up and let America know what they are thinking.

I had to wonder a couple of times if the judges would change their minds after watching the tape.

I have to go on a rant here about the juges "criteria" for Danny. I've seen it on stage only once and it was Adrian Zmed playing Danny (he was the lead in Grease 2). As sexy as John Travolta was then and Adrian Zmed is definitely easy on the eyes, I don't think either of them represnted a "tough guy" image they keep saying they are looking for.

Unfortunately, the tough guy or leader-of-the-pack performance for me was Jeff Conoway. :O

I guess my gripe is they keep telling the contestants they are looking for a tough Danny, but to my recollection they've never had a tough Danny.

FunnyGirl I believe you are right. There was an illusion of Danny being tough because he was the leader of the pack, but behind their back he was more of a romantic.. Away from school and his 'boys' he was a totally different person ... a person Sandy fell in love with.

That the paradox he faced when he went back to school. Be the tough guy he pretended to be or the romantic he wanted to be. He wanted to be both and couldn't mesh the two to everyone's satisfaction.

I believe Travolta played it well, and he will be a tough act to follow. SO basically I agree, they shouldn 't want a tough Dannty, just one who can fool everyone into believeing he is tough
