This season starts with 50 contestants, one from each state, trying to win a coveted spot at the ranch. Only 14 can stay, but they don't know that yet.

Who will be The Biggest Loser? Which State will represent the main 14? How much weight can a Nation lose? Stay tuned....
After a recap of the top 3 contestants from last season and their incredible weight loss, we learn that America has jumped on The Biggest Loser band wagon. All over America, "TBL" diet plans have been set in motion. TBL picked one player from each state to "represent" and we see some auditions/cast calls similar to the first show of American Idol. Initially we see Erin, a mom from RI, a Dad of 6 from AZ, a Firefighter from TN (Bobby), and a grandma from ID.
The voice over announcer leads the first 15 minutes of confessionals and lets us know that Bob Harper will return as the Blue Team trainer and a new trainer will lead the red team - Kim Lyons. Same rules - lose weight or go home.

After another melange of confessionals, we finally get to start this challenge!
All 50 contestants enter the ranch at a jog, where they meet Caroline Rhea, our host. She has them all get on a giant scale to see how much they weigh as a whole and it is over 14,000 pounds. A few are sickened, but they know that is why they are there. It is then that Caroline tells them the first twist....that only 14 can stay and the rest must go home.
In flies Bob and Kim on a zip line. Bob and Kim's backgrounds are shown and they both want to help their teams win, win, win! Kim tells us she wants to kick Bob's butt, being the new girl in town.
They get the contestants off the scale and start their first workout on the field. Calesthenics style - Jumping jacks, punches, lunges all while walking around interviewing all 50. Bob's strategy is to find strong, interesting personalities. He wants to get inside them and work his way out, fixing them from the inside out. Kim wants a well-balanced team, a cheerleader, a workhorse, etc.
After the workout they deliberate and pick their teams:
Blue:
Tiffany from Texas. Starting weight 255. Bob says she grabbed his attention right away.
Bobby from TN. Starting weight 321. Bob says he should do really well.
Brian from CA. Starting wt. 308
Melinda from AL. Starting weight 236
Marty from MO. Starting wt 365
Amy from MD. Starting wt. 260
Erik from NY. Starting wt. 407 Bob says Erik needs his help.

Red:
Ken from Washington. Starting weight is 358. Kim says she can tell he'll be entertaining for the team.
Heather from UT. Starting wt. 223
Nelson from MA. Starting wt. 404
Pam from IN. Starting wt. 247
Wylie from FL. Starting wt. (oops)
Kai from AK. Starting wt. 260
Jen from MN. Starting wt. 245. Kim says she has been hanging her head and she wants her to be proud!
These weights aren't given until the first weigh in, but in the essence of time...
After the teams are picked, Caroline returns, congratulates them and then sends them off to get to know each other and their trainers.
Once they leave, Caroline has to deal with 36 overweight angry, sad, pissed off contestants. One way to do it, and the way she did, was to let them know that they are still in the running to be TBL! After they leave, they will have a week to learn a personal workout routine, how to eat TBL style and are given gym memberships. At a certain point in the game, we don't know when, they will be given the opportunity to return to the ranch. Only the woman and man with the highest percentage of weight loss will be allowed to return. We can all watch their progress on NBC. com. They are all still sad, but some are really up for the challenge and they leave......for now.

Back at the ranch...
Bob and Kim get to know their teams with a round table discussion about why they are each there. It feels very AA to me and is probably very cathartic to them. Now everyone knows each other's "why's". After this session, is the first real weigh in. I posted the starting weights above. Caroline tells them that in one week they will return to weigh in and the team with the lowest % of wt loss will face eviction.
Everyone returns to the house, or so they think. Bob and Kim stop them and force them into the gym for their first team workout. Or do they.....

Once in they gym they are lead upstairs to see their new equipment...sleeping bags and lanters. It's a slumber party!
In reality, Bob tells us that they need to live in the gym and not in a fancy house, so this is a metaphor for that. Nighty-nite.

In the morning, Kim and Bob wake them up for their workouts. Outdoors both teams are running and hiking. Bob tells Bobby that he is saving his life right now. After the outdoor stuff, its indoors for the blue team for weight training and treadmills. Bobby pukes, Amy pukes, Bob says a lot of his players puked today. He says a lot of toxins are getting flushed today. We don't see any red teamers puke, though.
[shadow=red,220]foreshadowing???[/shadow]

Both trainers admit to pushing them very hard today, but they both agree that they had to to see what they had to work with.
Bob tells us that food is 1/2 the battle and he wants his girls on a 1200-1500 cal/day diet. Boys on 1500-2000 cal/day diet.
He teaches them how to make better food choices. Mostly plain meat and veggies.
NBC then shows us the other 36 contestants learning their workouts and meal planning.
Back at the ranch, its the next day and everyone is talking about how much they hurt after the workouts. Kim is showing her team the calories they normally eat for breakfast and does a quick commercial for Quaker Oats Weight Control Oatmeal, except its not "really" a commercial.
Today is challenge day:
The challenge is to get all of your team members over a series of ever -increasing -in -height walls. for some reason the walls are on an interstate bridge. Probably for the really cool aerial shots they can get. We've seen that the ranch has a large football size field, so it is not necessary for them to be on a bridge. But, I digress.
There was no real drama to the challenge, so I will skip to the results:
Red team crashes through the last wall as 3 blue team members have yet to scale the final wall. RED team wins! What they win is the opportunity to swap one team's weight loss for anothers on the losing team at the weigh in.
Back at the ranch....
Bob finds his losing team in the kitchen making dinner. He recognizes emotional eaters and he tells them that not as a punishment, they are to go to the gym for a workout BEFORE they eat. Oh the drama and devistation. He encourages them as the workout that the weigh in will be their goal. We see the red team snoozing peacefully and the blue team sweating forcefully. Do we think the hard work will pay off?
Squish will finish the recap this afternoon. Stay tuned to see which team will not be The Biggest Loser
Next day dawns and Bobby is extremely homesick. Bob and his team convince him that his family wants him to be at the ranch. In a confessional, Bob tells us that It's only the first week and he had better toughen up. Then, Bob gets Bobby to believe that he wants to go workout. Man, I could use some Bob in my life. :smug
Both teams are in the gym for their last chance workout. Blue team appears to be doing a much tougher work out.
At the weigh in, the red team decides to swap Jen for Amy.
Here are their results:
Red: Amy - 16
Heather - 9
Wylie - 14
Pam - 10
Kai - 12
Ken - 18
Nelson - 19
Blue: Jen - 8
Melinda - 11
Erik - 16
Bobby - 18
Tiffany - 12
Brian - 23
Marty - 20
Blue team had to lose 101 pounds to win and they lost 108 for the WIN! If the red team had chose Brian instead of Amy, they'd have won.
Ken had the biggest % wt loss for his losing team, so he is immune at the vote off.
The next day, when Kim finds out they lost, she was so happy when she learned the numbers and tried to encourage them. Heather totally flipped out and blamed the loss on Jen. She blamed her for not working as hard as everyone else. Jen never even tries to fight back or defend herself. Kim tells us that when Heather calls Jen out, she was in complete shock, but at the same time she "kinda understood". Jen didn't push it as much as everyone else did.
During elimination, the ceremony pretty much went as we thought it would:
Ken votes Jen
Wylie votes Jen
Kai votes Jen
Jen votes Heather
Heather votes Jen
Jen leaves with no hugs or anything from her team.
*After show, Jen has lost a total of 66 pounds and leaves a much healthier life, spending much time outdoors.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You just saved me 2 hours of watching this recap on the NBC site. Great recap. Anybody really stand out for you? The only memorable guy that I saw was the big hair guy.

Big hair guy is Ken.
I don't really have a favorite yet. I bet I will after tonight, though.
