It's that time again. Time to find out who will be America's Next Top Model. All of the girls arrive at the airport and are met by Miss J who is sporting a large hat that says ANTM AIR on it. The girls follow him through the airport and go outside for a surprise photo shoot. After that, they are brought to the BelAge Hotel where they sit and chat for awhile and then go up to the roof for a luncheon. Suddenly the *twirling twins* from last season appear. After they twirl around the roof for a bit, out comes Tyra herself, amidst cheers and tears from the girls. Tyra tells them that they are going to be interviewed and she wants them to be real. Because this was a two hour episode, I will be brief .. hopefully !!  The Interview Christian : prides herself in being able to imitate every one of Tyra's poses. Caridee : walks in with a garter on her leg. Jay Manuel tells her to never do that again. She seems goofy, but entertaining as well. Anchal : stutters over her words. Jay asks her why she wore blue contact lenses. She begins to cry and says that in India, lighter skin and lighter eyes are more desirable. Amanda and Michelle : The Twins. They seem rather gawky and Miss J says that the closest she needs to be to fashion is .. sitting in a back row watching. Megan : Comes in screaming and Miss J falls off his chair. She describes herself as dark and intense. Jaeda : Says she is considered the Hot Girl on Campus. Becky : woohoo !! We've got the same name !! I hope she makes the cut.  Anyway, she says she's an all around American girl, from a small town, with big dreams.Monique : Bursts into tears talking about her life. Says she was always teased because she had the darkest skin in the family. Eugena : Walks in with an attitude and says that last season's models were boring. Also gives a few examples of girls trying out for this season that she feels are boring. Brittany : Tap dances for the judges. Brooke : sings a rap song for the judges and tells them she is giving up her last year of high school to be there. Megan : basically a clone of last year's Kim. Same androgenous look, except her nose is more pug. She was in a plane crash when she was 9 and her mother died but kept Megan alive because she was laying over her. Cudo's to Megan for telling a sad story and not bursting into tears. Evita : Her husband is in Iraq, and she has two daughters. A.J. : Survived cervical cancer. Says that she's very different from the typical model type. Cyndel : says she's an entertainer. (she's a stripper). Jaslene : she comes sashaying in and seems a bit over confident in herself. Melissa Rose aka Melrose : Speaking of being overconfident .. Leangela : lived in a homeless shelter and at the age of 10 her mother dropped her off at Child Protective Services and never came back for her. Seems to be a strong person. Ginger : Sounds like a beauty pageant type. The judge's try to make her show who she REALLY is, without much success. Whittled Down to 21 21 girls that will continue on are : Christian Michelle and Amanda Megg Jaslene Jaeda Monique Caridee Eugena Megan Becky : yippee !!  Brittany Leangela Ginger Anchal A.J. Melrose Evita Brooke hmmm, it appears that I missed a few. oops  These girls will do another photo shoot and they are given the opportunity to put on hair extensions if they want. Some do and some don't. After they are done with their hair and makeup, Jay tells them that they are going to do a nude photo shoot which upsets Ginger and .. Becky.  Becky steps up to the plate and gives it her best shot. Good Girl !! Ginger finally does two poses with the help of Jaeda who keeps covering her with the towel.The Final Cut The final 13 are : Melrose Jaeda Michelle Eugena Brooke Anchal A.J. Christian Megg Megan Caridee Amanda Monique Becky didn't make the cut !! Booooooo .. Bummer !! She was really cute too !!  Part Two The girls meet with Miss J. to do their first runway. They will be modelling clothing from Elmer Ave.. Out come a bunch of male models and the girls must each pick a model to wear the clothes he is wearing. They should try to feminize the look and they are reminded that Elmer Ave. is all about Rock n' Roll. After they all strut their stuff, the winner is .. Melrose. Frankly, I thought she was a bit over the top. Her prize will be announced later. The girls get into an Escalade and find their first Tyyyyyyyyra Maaaaaaail. Tyra Mail : along with a key, they get this letter from Tyra. We've all got issues. Step into my world to experience some of mine. Your subscription has just arrived. -Tyra They arrive at the house, which is literally covered with huge pictures of Tyra. They run through the house, choose their beds, jump in the pool .. oh and there's also a confessional room where Brooke attempts an imitation of the old Will and Boogie diary room phone calls. If you didn't watch Big Brother, then you won't know what I am talking about. There are 11 beds and two bean bags which causes a small problem with the girls. Monique decides to steal Eugena's bed and pours water on it to *mark it* as hers. I suppose this is the first of what will be many little cat fights among the girls. Melrose starts ordering people around. She says that she is going to cook but that she will not clean up. Needless to say, the next morning the kitchen is a mess and Melrose is very unhappy. Who made HER Queen. More fighting occurs as everyone tries to figure out how much time is appropriate for showering, etc. Monique insists that she needs to take a one hour shower, and in the confessional, Anchal says that there is something wrong with Monique .. she's cuckoo !!  While the girls relax in the pool, Mother Melrose comes out with the next Tyyyyyyyyra Maaaaaaail. Tyra Mail People think models are stupid, anorexic, drug addicted bitches. Are you ?? The next morning, the girls are assembled outside and out comes Tyra, doing a bitchy woman performance. She's acting like a crazed over the hill model, and in a confessional Christian says "Tyra has completely gone off the edge or skipped some meds or something !!". After Tyra finishes her performance by falling on the ground and then standing up and uttering a blood curdling scream, Jay comes out and tells the girl's that that is not what Tyra is really like ( oh wow, I thought it was REAL ..not).  He says that she was acting like the crazy diva that people associate with models. Then he says that they are going to do the most controversial photo shoot they have ever done. They will be doing "model stereotypes" and each girl will portray something different.A.J. : model casting couch Amanda : anorexic model Caridee : dumb blonde Brooke : backstabbing bitch Christian : model turned actress Eugena : the black girl the industry tries to turn white Megan : diva with a lap dog Michelle : bulimia model Jaeda : plastic surgery victim Megg : drunk drug addict model Anchal : narcissist Monique : throwing a cell phone at her assistant Melrose : the model that won't wake up for less than 10 grand a day Jay also tells Melrose her prize. She won *diva for a day* where she will have an assistant and also get pampered. As the rest of the girls do their photo shoots, Melrose is making the most of her prize by ordering her assistant around, getting a massage, and arguing with the makeup artist, saying that she needed her makeup redone after her massage. This makes her late for the photo shoot, and she continues playing diva in front of Jay, explaining how she needed to have her makeup redone. Jay isn't amused and snaps at her by saying .. "listen .. don't delay the shoots !!" So much for *diva of the day*. During her entire photo shoot, Jay keeps telling her that every shot looks like bad acting. At the end of the shoot, she runs to the bathroom and bursts into tears. No one seems phased.It's time for the final Tyyyyyyyra Maaaaaail of the day. Tyra Mail Tomorrow you will have your first meeting with the judges. Only 12 of you will continue on in the hopes of becoming America's Next Top Model. Love, Tyra. The girls meet with Tyra and the rest of the judges .. Nigel Barker, Miss J. Alexander and Twiggy. Photo Shoot Evaluations Megan : Nigel says she owned the photograph but the closeup isn't great. Tyra says that when she looks up, she looks a little *piggy*. Monique : Twiggy says that she should have been more in the forefront and Nigel says she just looks a little crazy. Caridee : Tyra says she was proud of her pictures. She says she has the personality, she needs to focus more on the beauty. Anchal : Tyra asks how she feels looking at herself with dark eyes, and Anchal says it makes her feel pretty. Nigel says it's the uniqueness that makes a person beautiful. Megg : Tyra says that on film, her face gets flat. Twiggy says she needs to show her eyes. Amanda : Twiggy says she captured the mood. Tyra says she looked nervous. Michelle : Twiggy says it's a good shot and it's a scary shot and that means she GOT it. Melrose : Nigel says she needs to show more emotion. Tyra says that Jay said she was very argumentative, she was late for the shoot and she was the worst shoot of the day. Brooke : Nigel says she has a pretty, delicate face, but in the shoot, she lost that. Eugena : Nigel says it's a great shot. Twiggy says it is bland. A.J. : Tyra says she doesn't feel any desire in her, and A.J. says she has low confidence. For the photo shoot, Nigel says that her face is the best he saw of all of the girls. Christian : Twiggy says the photo doesn't work for her, that she looks much better in person. Tyra says that Jay said she just kept doing the same pose in every photo. Jaeda : Nigel says she needs to bring out her femininity. Miss J says she needed more facial expression. Judge's Deliberations A.J. : Twiggy likes her photographs but is worried about her lack of confidence. Jaeda : Nigel says she has a very masculine look. Eugena : Nigel says she's got what it takes but Miss J says that sometimes when you've got what it takes, it gets taken. Amanda : Twiggy says it was one of her favorite photos of the day. Megg : Miss J says she has bad posture. Nigel says that when she opens her eyes, he thinks she is one of the most attractive girls there. Anchal : Tyra likes the fact that she is learning to feel beautiful. Christian : Nigel says that she has beautiful eyes and a lovely skin tone. Miss J and Twiggy say she is boring. Brooke : Nigel says her photo was mediocre and actually a bit ugly. Megan : Twiggy doesn't like the photo but she likes her as a person. Caridee : Miss J says, "tweddle dee dee Carideeee" Nigel says she got the easiest shoot .. dumb blonde.Monique : Miss J says he loves her and Twiggy loves her body. Melrose : Miss J says she looks a bit "long in the tooth" and Tyra says she was very disappointed in her performance and how she talked back to Jay and how bitchy she was in general. The Elimination Tyra announces the girls that will continue on in the competition. Michelle Caridee A.J. Megan Anchal Megg Monique Amanda Jaeda Eugena Brooke The final two are Christian and Melrose. Tyra to Christian : You didn't look like a model and the judges felt like you were boring. Tyra to Melrose : You had one of the most notorious stereotypes and your pictures didn't come out good. And your attitude was unacceptable. The last picture handed out goes to Melrose and she drops to her knees and begins crying. Christian cries as well, and Tyra gives her a hug goodbye. She goes to the other girls for a hug as she sobs. As Christian packs to leave, she says she is crushed and she didn't see it coming. She says it hurts really bad and she wishes they would have given her a second chance to prove herself. And with that, we come to the end of our season premiere. Next week, makeovers are a crushing blow to some of the girls and Monique goes on a rampage, screaming and yelling. What other drama will we be subjected to ? Oh, don't worry Becki-boo, FG got me on my recap of DWTS too. We're going to have to name her the "Recap Patrol."

New here, though I've read your posts in the past. I believe you're being WAY too hard on Melrose. First off, would you want to live in a pigsty?  Maybe she could've said it a little nicer. In an interview Christian did for RNO, she said quite a few of the girls are acting diva-ish, with Monique being the worst. Also, they treat Melrose like a diva all day, then get mad when she behaves that way? That makes no sense. Unless there was more that we didn't see.And you didn't mention the critique on Michelle's photo, which Tyra (I think) called 'the most controversial'. That was an amazing picture for someone who's gangly and kinda plain.Personally, I didn't care for Becky's looks, though her nude picture was pretty good. Leangela should've made it over Monique. And would someone please tell these girls to stop crying at the drop of a pin!  Anchal turned me off with that as did Monique. Give me a break! Compared to Wendy, Megan, or AJ's stories, these girls so-called "sob stories" are annoying.

Hey hutchlover! Welcome to ART it's always nice to have another point of view. Part of me agrees about the boo-hoo fests; however, this is a very heightened situation and everybody is out of their comfort zones so emotions are at the surface level so I tend to give them a little leeway. If it becomes an every episode thing, I say GET OUT! I agree about Melrose too. Maybe it's the mom in me, but even in college the hard and fast rule is keep your messes in your own area and the common areas clean!! I also thought it was a little hypocriticl of Jay to get mad at Melrose for being late. I can't help but wonder what would have been the reaction if she would have jumped off the massage table and straight to the shoot.

Glad you joined us, hutchlover! I thought they overdid the whole Melrose thing too - plus, I think it was a stupid reward for the first challenge. I hope that you stick around to discuss the rest of the season with us! |

Welcome to the group hutchlover !! As far as my attitude toward Melrose, I tend to let my opinions be known in my recaps, however, I almost always change my mind about people in ALL of the reality shows, so we'll see if I start liking her a little more as the show progresses.
I'm sure I skipped over quite a few things for this show, but since it was a 2 hour premiere, I had to pick and choose what to put in or the recap would have been way too long and drawn out. Thanks for posting and I hope to see you in here more
