This is it...time for the Treasure Hunters finale. Who will find the treasure first? Let's find out.

Last week was a cliffhanger episode that continues tonight with the "live" finale. When the show ended, the Geniuses had made it to the secret chamber. Team Air Force was still looking for the hidden door and the Southies had just arrived at Key Industries. Hours have gone by and the Genuises are not any closer to finding the five letter word to open the cryptex. Team Air Force is throwing around words, "scott, trust, stars," while they walk around the building. As the Genuises reach the two hour mark in the chamber Francis feels faint. He says he can actually smell the treasure. :oooo ( Hmmm, are you sure that's what you smell in that hot chamber?) The Southies are the second team to find the hidden door. Charles from the Geniuses says "they've tried every frickin code." (Nope, you've still got one left that will open the cryptex.) As the Southies are trying to pry the door open, the Geniuses realize there will be another team in the chamber with them soon. Charles (who didn't take his happy pill) tells Francis to put his ear to the door "Einstein." And then as Francis says something to him he retorts,"Don't talk unless you are saying something useful." :suspicious Team Air Force finds the hidden door and now the two teams (Air Force and Southies) try to get into the chamber. Team Air Force uses their star token to open the door. Charles (Mr. Personality) tells the other teams to "have fun," as they enter the secret room. The Geniuses had a 2+ hour lead. Now the three teams are on an even playing field. Brooke says that as they enter the room,"It's an eerie scene. The Geniuses looked like they were beaten with a stick." Team Air Force takes five minutes to collect their thoughts before they try to figure out the last code. (I thought that's what they were doing all along.) Air Force and Southies seem to wonder around aimlessly, while Francis and Charles prop up the walls. Sam is asleep (and he's a mouth breather). At the two hour mark for the Southies, (I don't know which one) thinking of five letter words says, "France, Truce...(wait a minute f.r.a.n.c.e, that's six letters). The Geniuses are entering their five hours in the chamber, while it's three and a half for the two other teams. The five letter "word" still eludes them. At six and a half hours (for the Geniuses), Sam is still sleeping, Francis is laying down, and Charles is still turning the cryptex. Francis pops up and tells Charles to hand it over. After a few twist and turns, the cryptex is now open. Francis entered "FSKey," (as in Francis Scott Key). Inside there is a metallic arrow that they will put in the dial that is on the floor. With a spin of the arrow, it lands on the star. The guys walk over to the star marker on the wall and hit it. With that smack on the wall, out pops some flames and smoke. Suddenly the other door in the chamber slides open and inside is a huge pile of gold coins.

When we return from the commerical break we get a message that "portions have been pre recorded." (Yea think). We're still not live folks. As the Geniuses enter this second chamber they get a phone call from Laird. "After following 200 years of American history, the gold is yours." The Geniuses are truly excited (who wouldn't be?) and talk about how their grandparents and parents can now retire. This money will also help get them through med school and help Sam open a clinic. As they discuss this we get flashbacks from their journey on the hunt. The Southies and Air Force get a call telling them they "were not fast enough and the treasure just slipped through their fingers." (Wow, thanks for that call Laird) :suspicious Martin from the Southies has a sick feeling while Matt R. thinks the winning team lived up to their name.

It's now time for the "Live" finale. Host Laird is in studio with the former teams. He introduces the Geniuses and they are mobbed by their former, fellow hunters. Laird is trying to keep it together as he calls the Geniuses to his side (several times). He actually has to go over and grab them by the arm and pull them away. Our host talks to them about the many times they were almost eliminated. (Almost doesn't count.) We're told that there will be some unseen footage, plus a mini-hunt for 10 people who played the on-line game and won $10,000. They will now compete for $100,000. (To be honest, I didn't want to go through another hunt... I tuned out here.) Back to the show... there's a shot of the floor. The cameraman took a little break. Laird points out the obvious that Brooke is now preggers. She laughs,"the robots are recreating." :laugh It's time to look back on some speical moments from the hunt. (If you'd like, we recapped the whole season, so you can look back at your leisure.) Laird asks the Ex-CIA's about being so close in the end and Todd comments that, "Mark didn't have enough to drink the night before." (Ouch) Melissa from the Grad Gals actually had a fear of water and they talked about how she and twin sister Jessica were sick on the first leg of the hunt. If you will recall they were in Hawaii aboard the "Jefferson" ship. Moving on to Keith Brown describing his experience in the ocean, our memories were refreshed that he had just been swimming for three weeks before the show. We found out that he "learned" in a four foot deep pool. :O Before a commerical break, Laird says the most popular subject from the online questions were the Fogals and what it was like to be Fogal'd.

When we come back we hear more about the mini-hunt. It's time to chat with the Fogals. They were a big topic on the internet and mainly known as being ruthless. Papa Fogal says, "What was I thinking? We weren't ruthless, just competitive." This prompts Laird to ask the Southies, who had been Fogal'd what they thought. They went back to where they helped the Fogals portage their canoe because they heard crying that sounded like a two year old and then being told to go to the wrong star while the Fogals left them in the dust. Kay-te gives a meek, "Sorry," as the Ex-CIA whine "what about us... we were Fogal'd too." Team Air Force had a different experience with the Fogals and say they love them. Matt interprets being Fogal'd as "being touched by grace." Next we catch up with the Wild Hanlons who say they "Fogal'd themselves." :) Flashbacks of the Hanlons show them having some difficulty getting people to help with directions. Mullet Hanlon interrupts someone who is eating and tells them they can chew and listen at the same time. At one point during the hunt, he calls for silence to see if they can hear their competition. All they hear are birds in the wild. We also revist their late night food run during an elimination leg. Laird then asks the teams how their lives have changed since the hunt. Mark from the Ex-CIA says that he got back to the office and had a billion emails. He decided to quit his job and moved to Florida. Chandra from the Young Professionals says they've learned to trust their instincts. (If you will recall, they followed the Geniuses and were eliminated first.) Miss USA says they were underestimated during the competition, even by Laird. They hoped now people would see how competitive it is being a "pageant girl." They also thought the game was unfair because of all the physical strenght involved... but then remembered that the guys didn't have to do a bikini and heels challenge. :oooo (Oh, please. You guys were good until you said that.)

It's now time to find out just how much those coins are worth. Flashback to the Geniuses entering the secret chamber at 10:00pm. The teams are shown through the night in different stages of exhaustion. At different times the hunters get rest while some continue to work on the code. At around 5:00am one of the Southies comments that Francis looks like a "dead porpoise," as he's asleep on his stomach on top of the dial. At 8:00am Francis takes the cryptex from Charles and solves the last code. Francis, Sam and Charles are now $3 million richer. We close the finale with the Geniuses' families joining them on stage. And it's time to say good night fellow Treasure Hunters.

What a hunt through American history! Thank you for your time. I really enjoyed recapping this show, with the help from a couple of my ART friends, dfleminator and Bored. (Thanks guys for covering.) What did you think of the show/finale? And will there be a second season? Sign up and chat with us!
