Caroline opens the show by explaining how millions struggle with their weight every year. Think about how much bigger the challenge would be if you were around food all day. Tonight's Special Edition show is about two resturant families that want to be crowned The Biggest Loser. The families consist of a 50's diner family and a Little Italy Italian resturant family. They are both desparate to change the cycle that they are caught in. Now they must come together and help support one another through intense diet and exercise. The families are competiting for the title of Biggest Loser and $50,000. 50's Diner Family: Oldest daughter Kelly is unhappy. She thinks she was put on the Earth as a joke. Dad Scott owns the diner and the entire family works there. Scott tells us it's just easy to eat what's around. Daughter Emily (16) lets us know that she's picked on constantly at school and is often called cow. Mom Tammy is sad that Emily has to go through these things and the whole family just wants to enjoy their lives. As they are sitting down to a meal, suprise, they get a phone call from Bob. He tells them to head to the ranch so that he can be their trainer. Everyone is very excited. Kelly says that her mom and sister are in for a big suprise. Little Italy Family: This resturant family consist of Mom Toni and Daughter Alexa, along with their cousins, Robert and Daniela. Toni is tired of being tired and what's to get her family, especially daughter motivated to lose weight. Alexa wants to look good. She hates going shopping because she can't find cute tops. Robert tells us that since he cooks, he has to sample all the food before it's served. They seem like a fun family with all their joking. While they are sitting down to dine, their call from Jillian comes to invite them to the ranch. Both families are brought into the 24hr Fitness gym to meet Caroline Rhea, our host. Before their first weigh in they are shown their past temptations. On one side of the scale is everything from an American diner, on the other every Italian dish that could fit. It's time for the families to go and change for their first weigh in. Emily (50's diner) is so nervous about being in shorts and sports bra in front of other people. Red Team/ Little Italy Family Starting Weight: Robert: 276lbs. (At this point he and his other family breakout into giggles. Caroline asks if it's nervous laughter. Robert may be laughing on the outside, but he's hurt by the weight). Toni: 213 lbs. Daniela: 163 lbs. Alexa (14): 191lbs. Starting weight: 843lbs. Toni is crying and thinks it's horrible. She asks how they've all gotten this way. She feels responsible for Alexa's weight.Blue Team/50's Diner Family Starting Weight: Scott: 265 lbs. Tammy: 215 lbs. Kelly: 211 lbs. Emily (16): 250lbs. Starting weight: 941 lbs. Mom Tammy says that it's her fault. She thinks she responsible for her family's weight problem. Mom's, always taking everything on their shoulders. After ten days of being at the ranch with their trainers, the families will come back to weigh in one more time before heading home. The family that loses the highest percentage of weight will win a week's vacation to the island of Curacao. The two families head to their condo's where they find their pictures. Daniela (Red Team) says she looks pregnant in her picture. Robert says it looks like he's having twins. Tammy (Blue Team) is ready to make new family pictures when they lose all the weight. The next morning the Red Team takes a hike as a family when they are ambushed by Jillian. Robert is shocked to see Jillian and thought they would just get to take a stroll. The Blue Team is out stretching when Bob jogs to their side. Emily says her first impression of Bob is that he's pretty cute. The Blue Team are also going on a hike and almost immediately Mom Tammy is complaining. Bob saw a strong togetherness in the family as the others try to keep Tammy motivated and make sure she's doing ok. Bob decides to bring the diner to the ranch and wants to give them some helpful dining tips. He tells them to replace beef burgers with turkey burgers. He tells them they can have two turkey burgers for the calories of one beef burger. After the turkey burgers are cooked everyone sits down to enjoy. Bob is so happy and asks, "Can you really taste a difference?" Tammy says, "OH Yeah." This is not the answer Bob was expecting. Jillian is spending time working out with Alexa. They talk about shopping and buying clothes. Alexa says that she will only buy a handbag or jewelry because she can't find clothes that she wants to wear. Jillian sees a little bit of herself in Alexa. During the workout Robert starts "picking" on Jillian. Not a good move, dude. After this Jillian is going to make Robert feel it. After some floor exercises he thinks he's done. Jillian says one minute on the treadmill. He starts yelling at Jillian that she can't do this to people. After a few minutes, she actually handcuffs him to the treadmill and won't let him off until he's done his minute. Over at the Blue Team Bob notices that one half of the team is giving it their all. Emily keeps stopping for water breaks and Mom Tammy is not pushing herself. The trainers decide to suprise the teams with a visit from the Original Biggest Loser, Gary from Season 1. He still looks great. He comments on how he wished he could have done this with his family. He continues to use them as a support system. Gary tells the teams they are going to get complete makeovers. Kelly (Blue Team) is excited and says that her mom really needed this. Jonathan from the reality show, Blow Out is in charge of the makeovers. Everyone looks nice after their color and cuts. Dad Scott had his mustache shaved. The biggest change was Mom Tammy from the Blue Team. All her gray is gone and she looks at least five years younger. Emily and Alexa take a walk/hike. They are in the same place... they enjoy school but hate being picked on because of their weight. They talk about not having a social life and all the things young teen girls discuss. It looks like these two have bonded. Family Challenge: All the teams will need is a bottle of water. This makes them nervous. Waiting in the gym are two threadmills, one for each family. In 90 minutes the family that clocks the most mileage will win. During the challenge all four family members must get on the treadmill at least once. There is a stop button so that the families can trade off. They must hit the stop button only once. If they hit the button twice it will wipe out the mileage they've done so far and they will start all over. The team with the most mileage at the end of the 90 minutes will come back to the ranch one week before the final weigh in to workout with their trainer. Both teams have a great start, but with about forty minutes to go the Blue Team hits the stop button twice, so Dad Scott jumps on the treadmill and tries to catch up. With five minute to go, the Red Team thinks they have it in the bag with a great lead. Daniela steps on the treadmill to relieve a family member and hits the stop button when it was already pressed once. The Red Teams mileage goes back to zero. The Blue Team wins the challenge. Daniela feels like she's let her team down and goes to hide in her room. She can't have a moment to herself because cousin Robert keeps bothering her. Jillian is getting fed up their attitude. She asks them what they are here for and goes on to tell them that they have great love for one another but don't know how to support one another. Robert is very competitive and just wants to win, while Toni wants to change their lives. They each need to have a different approach to help respect one another. On the Blue Team there is a serious health issue with Emily. Before participating on the show they all had to go through a doctor's exam. It was brought to the family's attention that Emily is prediabetic. The doctor on staff at the ranch talks with the family about the situation and tells them that Emily is actually suffering from early adult onset and she's on sixteen. This could take decades off her life. The family knows that now it's not about winning the money, it's about saving their lives. At the last chance workout the trainers are doing their job of showing no mercy. It's time for our final ranch weigh in before the teams return home to apply everything they've learned to their daily lives. Red Team: Toni- 213 lost 9lbs 204 Alexa- 191 lost 8lbs 183 Daniela- 163 lost 11lbs 152 Robert- 276 lost 18lbs 258 Total weight lost: 46lbs; Total % lost: 5.46 The Blue Team must lose more than 51lbs. to win. Blue Team: Tammy- 215 lost 14lbs 201 Kelly- 211 lost 12lbs 199 Scott- 265 lost 23lbs 242 Emily- 250 lost 21lbs 229 Total weight lost: 70lbs; Total % lost: 7.44 The Blue Team wins weigh in and the week long trip to Curacao. Toni (Red) tells us she's leaving the ranch a new person. Tammy (Blue) hasn't felt this good since she was a teenager. Daniela (Red) feels like she can accomplish anything now. Emily (Blue) is feeling better. Kelly (Blue) started the competition thinking of herself and just wanting to be skinny, but now she wants everyone to do well. Robert (Red) still wants the $50,000 prize money. Join us next week for the results show where we will see the two families on their return home and the journey that brings them to the final weigh in. |
