So... anyone watch the train wreck? I watched hoping for much much more than I saw. The levels of skill among the celebrities was so varied that I don't see how a couple of the teams won't continue to dominate. Dave Collier has had extensive experience on ice playing hockey, and the Barberie chick actually trained as a figure skater as a child until she was a teenager. Of course they're going to be better than someone who's really never skated before. And on top of that... they score Lloyd's team lowest because he's "strong"? What the heck was that? I can't believe I taped Lost for this. JMO of course |

I had to record Lost, because I had the Biggest Loser recap. I was wanting to catch some of this trainwreck but Dancing with the Stars IMO is much better. I love figure skating (took lessons myself when I was younger). I don't think I can get around to this show unless they move it to another night. If somebody watched, let us know what happened. |

I only got to see a bit of it--I saw Jenni Meno and Todd Bridges and Kristy Swanson and Lloyd Eisler. Were there any major boo-boos last night? How are they scoring the night? Is there a winner for the night or is it just a cumulative thing? |

Well, I watched it so I can give a mini re-cap for those with questions... All the skaters have a new required element for their program each week. This week, it was a 3 revolution spin. Kurt and Deborah were up first. They did a really light-hearted number... which was also really light on technique. Mostly she stood while he pulled her around the ice a little. The judges, John Nicks, Dorothy Hamill and Mark Lund, (a judges trio not unlike Dancing with the Stars... who are in turn not unlike American Idol... it's getting old, isn't it?) gave them a score out of 30 for technical skills and a score out of 30 for artistic skills. The judges remarks were that the program was light on technical skills and they expected more artistically. Tai and Bruce were up next. Fortunately, Bruce did not fall and break a hip. So all was good. They skated to "Love Lift us Up", I think, and the judges thought their artistry was better. He also did some "walz" (?) jumps (jumping from one foot, half turn in the air, and landing on the other foot), but boy, was he stiff artistically. They score higher than Deb/Kurt and are in first. Kristy and Lloyd are up next. Considering her lack of experience skating, they do some nice moves together (with one wobble) and some really nice lifts. It's a solid program. The judges remark that the lifts were good, but they knew Lloyd was strong, and they want more connection between the skaters. They expected more. Somehow, and much to many boos from the crowd, they end up in third at this point. Lloyd remarks that it's ok, everyone knows what he has thought of judges his whole career anyways. ![]() Jenni/Todd do a Wild Wild West number which is upbeat and gets the crowd into it. It's fun, but he skates horribly. He's wobbling and almost falling through much of the program but manages to stay on his feet. Somehow they recieve higher scores than Lloyd's team. I think it's only .2 apart though. But still. Yeesh. Jillian/John are up next looking fantastic. Not only are they both gorgeous, but she has had much experience as a figure skater. Guess what? They did really really well. She does a wonderful, centered spin. The judges are awed. But are they surprised? They shouldn't be. *rolls eyes* They are in first by a landslide. Finally Nancy and Dave take the ice. He is used to hockey skates so he had the pics ground off of his figure skates. It doesn't hurt him much, and they do the most engaging number of the night. A "Blue's Brother" piece that suits both of them and is good enough that I could almost get the taste of cheese out of my mouth. Almost. The judges really like it on the most part. Dorothy loves it, but if you watch this show next time you'll find out that Dorothy loves everything!!! Well, except for Lloyd. Cause, you know, he's strong. They land in second place. The final rankings were: 1. Jillian/ John 2. Nancy/Dave 3. Tai/Bruce 4. Kurt/Deborah 5. Jenni/Todd 6. Kristy/Lloyd Next week, they skate again with more technical skill required. They are combining this weeks scores (sorry, I don't know them off the top of my head) with next weeks and the lowest total is eliminated from the competition. If Fox posts the scores later, I'll transfer them here. |

I have to agree with Toque on the people with experience. That's boring and not really fair to the other teams. Anyway, I was hoping to see people falling and making fools of themselves. Not to see people that know what they are doing !! |

I saw the show, and you did a great recap, toque. I don't watch "Lost", but if I did, I wouldn't miss it for this show. Since I don't watch Lost, this will do. I have to give everyone on the show credit...for one month of practice, they weren't bad at all. It isn't fair that some have skating experience though...I'd rather it be all unexperienced people...makes it more fun. I don't care for the Simon impersonator judge at all....and the jury is still out for me on this one, but I'll watch it again. |

I'll probably watch again too, beth. Even when I'm quite unsure of a show, once I've watched the first one, I get stuck and have to watch more. I've suffered through many a bad show because of it. Remember "the will"? LOL Plus, part of me wants to see if they can improve at all. yw for the mini-cap.

I thought there was more? I was sure there were more... Maybe it just felt like it... or perhaps I'm going mad. All right. Change "the Will" to... other bad shows. Anyways, you know what I mean. |

Great recap toque, but you forgot to point out the music was Songs from the Movies.
Also, the reason why Kristie and Lloyd got such low scores is because she really didn't do a lot of "skating". They did a lot of lifts so she really didn't spend a heck of a lot of time on the ice. She's my fave going into this. I agree with the Jililan Barberie advantage. I'd say start a petition to have her removed, but it would take the drool factor out of the show as her partner is white HOT!! |

I know! Course, maybe he could just skate singles for awhile or something....
That's funny, cause here's the thing... I had no idea. I just popped in the thread and I read that someone wanted to know what happened so I wrote what I could remember. But now that you mention it, I guess it does make sense, doesn't it.
