*Arrives out of breath* Dear faithful readers! I’ve just returned from a trip around the world and I must apologize for this late recap. I partied in L.A., ate dinner in New York, partied again in Vegas and finished my night walking in Memphis. On the last episode, the teams arrived and it was quite dark outside. The Bransen family was the first to leave at 1:15 PM. Wally and his girls have been doing well and I can tell you they continue to do so. The Linz orange-wearing guys’ departure time is at 1:18 pm while the third team to leave is the Schroeder family at 1:33 pm. We also learn that the desperate housewives leave at 1:44 pm and that Sharon and Christine don’t always see eye to eye. They all open their clue and it says: Drive 100 miles to Anniston, Alabama and find the largest office chair in the world. Wow. I remember when the tasks required going to a famous museum or getting lost in the African desert. But an office chair? That’s just hardcore, baby! If you remember, last episode there was a certain bus ride of doom that left some teams two hours behind the others. Because of this, the Weaver family is leaving at 3:34 pm. Their ever-growing popularity increases when we hear a clip from the Schroeder’s saying they don’t like them, mainly because of the mom. Who better to leave next than our only real family in this race, the Paolo family! I swear, three seconds after they open their clue and leave the mat, they lose the clue. Brian Paolo says that DJ and his mom fight all the time because they’re the exact same person! I’m laughing so much at this point that this season has almost redeemed itself. Next thing we know, after getting the clue back, Brian asks the name of the place they have to get to. Mama Paolo smacks him upside the head with the said clue and screams “Anniston!” Brian then screams OW! You just gave me a PaPERcUT! His intonation was so funny. Well folks, this is the last scene of this episode, I hope you had fun, join me next week…wait, that was a lie. I have to recap the rest of this un-fun filled episode. Let’s not forget the Gaghan family, leaving at 3:53 pm. All the teams eventually find the gigantic chair who looks more like a rusty and yooge piece of metal than a cool tourist attraction. Drive 18 miles to Talladega, Alabama and find the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame. The teams try to hide their excitement at the sight of the word international and succeed very well. They all make their way there without too much trouble… all of them except the Weaver family. Understandably, it must not be a very fun thing to go visit anything that reminds them of their father/husband’s death. There, they all find their next clue. You’re at the Talladega Super Speedway, the biggest in the world. (Lots of big things in Alabama!) You must complete one lap of the 2.6 mile track and then you’ll receive your next clue. Just to be bitchy, we won’t say you’re not completing a lap in a race car but in party bikes. The Weavers are all stressed out and it’s really uncomfortable to watch. We never get to see their reaction as they realize they are not driving a race car but a cool bike. Papa Paolo is the most disappointed racer I’ve ever seen when he realizes he won’t even be touching a race car today. Mark Schroeder asks his family to stop so he can fix Stassi’s seat so they can go faster. Stassi completely disagrees and says that in this race, every minute counts. Drive 260 miles to Hattiesburg, Mississippi where you have to find the Southern Colonel. To continue with the bitchy theme, we won’t tell you who/ what the colonel actually is. While trying to find the Southern Colonel, the teams pretty much all stop to ask the locals. Perhaps in an attempt to stay first as long as possible or just to have so fun, one of Wally’s girls MOONS the Linz boys. The only problem was that Megan was the closest one to miss’ behind but still. Eventually, every team realizes that it’s a mobile home dealership, even the Schroeder family. The difference is that Mark decided that it was improbable that the Colonel was a trailer park place so they looked and looked and finally came to the same conclusion as everyone else. They sure lost a lot of time on nothing. There are three departure times for the next day and the teams with the minimal required brain capacity actually realize that it would be a good idea to look for the earliest time available. The Linz and Bransen families arrive at pretty much the same time and both get the earliest time of 7:20 am. The Godlewski sisters get the second time of 7:40 am but the following team takes the first time they see which puts them at 8:00 am. That team is none other than the Weaver family. The next team to arrive is the Schroeder family and even if Stassi is screaming to her father yet again that every minute counts, he tells Hunter to take the time of 8:00 o’clock. The Gaghan’s do the same thing and don’t look any further than 8:00 am. With all the stupidity running around, the Paolo family get the sweet time of 7:40 am. What a bunch of over-lookers! Drive 84 miles to Richland Mississippi and find a BP gas station and ask for Lester. Ok, I’ve been good up to now. A chair. A trailer park. But a gas station? What’s amazing about all of this? I’m beginning to long for the days of crazy Colin and his broken ox. Now that’s something you don’t see everyday!! Moving on, the Godlewski sisters argue and drive by the BP station. They eventually find it but not before one of them cries. Drama like this I can’t take!!! Anyway, all the teams find their new found friend Les and they get their next clue. Drive to the Pelican State (that’s Louisiana, I did not know that but I’m not American so I have a good excuse!) and find the Madisonville Fairview Riverside State Park where a detour awaits you. Choose between Work and Play. In Work, the teams have to use a two-person hand saw to cut a 12 inches slice, for a total of 4 slices. In Play, the teams have to row to a riverboat and play games of 21. They must win three rounds to get their next clue and all four players must beat the dealer. Both the Linz and Bransen families choose to play, while the Paolo and Godlewski groups decide to work. The Gaghan’s decide to play, but really, both the detours would be hard for this team. The Linz family is having too much trouble playing cards so they switch detours. The first to finish this detour is none other than the Paolo family! I’m just glad they concentrated on the task and that mama Paolo didn’t smack her sons with the saw! The Bransen’s finish their card game rather quickly while the Gaghan’s change detours. The Weaver’s chose to play and are having great luck with the cards. While they get their clue and leaving, they pass the Schroeder family. The Schroeder family who’s from Louisiana and got lost! Cross the world’s longest bridge to the city of New Orleans. Park your cars on Esplanade Avenue and go to the Pit Stop, the Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. One of the Godlewski sisters wants to get her backpack before running for the pit stop. Another one tells her that it’s not necessary and the first one starts to cry. Gah! They get on my nerves. A grown woman acting like this is not my favorite thing to see. Anyway, are you ready for another “Geography with Linda Weaver” segment? She says that Lake Ponchartrain is part of the five great lakes. I won’t hold it against her since she and her kids had a rough time this episode but I will however point out that is the third geography faux-pas she has made this season. It’s finally time to go and rest for a bit. Wally and his mooning-girls are number one yet again and they win a trip to O-Town (Orlando.) The second team to arrive is the Paolo family. No reports on Phil’s condition after being paper-cutted by an ecstatic mama Paolo. The third team is the Linz family, after being clearly disoriented by Wally’s blonde mooners. The fourth team is the desperate crying housewives and the fifth team is the Weaver family. We are treated to our usual final two suspense until we see that the Gaghans, yet again, are saved by the bell. They finish in sixth place while the Schroeders are last and philiminated. They seem devastated and we see that Stassi was right to tell her dad that every minute counts. Maybe I’m just being pessimistic but I have this sinking feeling that the non-elimination legs will always come to save one of the teams I’d rather not see competing anymore. Anyway, in the next episode, they are leaving the United States! Helllooooo Canada! Or Mexico! Did you see the possible green envelope in the preview? Could it be a fast forward? I don’t know how much New Orleans has changed since they filmed this episode and I wonder if the Schroeders are okay after Katrina. They may not be the most likeable team but they had their moments of entertainment. Join me next week where the remaining teams will take the plane and possibly find a giant shoe or piece of cheese. |

Another great recap, Boo. Great to hear about your little travelling adventure too. Partying life, eh? About the Schroeders' family, I happened to be reading some articles about The Amazing Race recently and stumbled upon a little piece of information about them and their latest update after Hurricane Katrina. Here goes:
Here's wishing the best for the Schroeder family. |
