We're both retired Navy officers Typical Skipper Moment: When I was a U.N. Peacekeeping Observer in the Western Sahara, I was assigned to a remote site hundreds of miles away from civilization. One night, an airplane crashed near our location. I was forced to take a leadership role in the rescue effort because I was the only one who could read charts and plot coordinates.
