The Aftermath of Sudden Axings Welcome to the next episode of AI! I try to fast forward through most of Ryan’s spiel, but I do catch the part where they show the pictures of those axed last week. That was kind of like they had died or something. Anyways, get this party on a Saturday Monday night... A Little Less ‘Meh’ and A Lot More Screaming... at My TV Last week, Mario Vasquez blew everyone away. How will he do this week? Bored says: Not quite as good as he was last week. It was still pretty good, though, but not as write home-able as his last one was. Randy says: Loves his shoes. Wants to see an unbelievable performance. Paula says: Wants more, more, more from Mario, but likes the song choice. By the way, what is up with her hair? It’s seriously problematic... looks like a bad dye job. Moving on... Simon says: He looks like he’s been doing it for years, and he doesn’t need advice from the judges. Mario tries to protest, but Simon isn’t having any of it. The next person singing is Anwar Robinson. He did well last week, but will it be as good this week? Bored says: Another good performance from Anwar. Not quite as good as last week, like Mario, but it was rather good. Only one problem: they used that one shot where they show the person twice wayyy too much. Other than that, yay. Randy says: He thinks that Anwar worked it out. Paula says: Amazing tone, and the best technical vocalist. Simon says: It was a risk, and it sounded fantastic. The next singer is Joseph Murena. Last week, he was that guy that was spared from being eliminated. How will he do this week? Bored says: It was pretty good. It moved out of ‘meh’-ness to pretty good-ness. The problem with Joe is that he doesn’t have the fanbase to carry him far enough without stellar performances. And he said ‘woo’ too much. Randy says: Still waiting for one run or one note to show ‘greatness’. It was OK. Paula says: Much better than last week. Granted, that’s not saying much. Oh well. Simon says: Agrees with Randy, but he could have seen it in a Portugese Night Club in 1974. Ouch. Harsh words for Mr. Murena. He’s not looking too happy, either. Next is David Brown. Last week, he was rather mnyergh. Will he be good tonight? Bored says: It helps that I really like the song that he’s singing. That said, I thought that it was a 100% increase from last week. Definitely a much better performance than last time. Still not the best of the night, though. Randy says: Better than last week, but still not your best. Paula says: Same as Randy. Simon says: Same as Paula and Randy. Also thinks that the beginning was rough. Constantine Maurolis is up next. Last week, he sucked. How will he do this week? Bored says: Well... this performance made me cringe. There is just something... fundamentally wrong with it. He sucked at screaming. He sucked singing. Both parts made me cringe. It’s a little too obvious that he’s trying too hard to be rock. It was just appaling. Please, Constantine, my bleeding eardrums beg you to never scream again... Randy says: Much better than last week, but it was really good. I wonder what Randy’s on today. Paula says: He was having fun up there. That’s not necessarily a good thing! Idiots. Simon says: It was a better week, but you could go to any band and see the same thing without being excited. I’ve got to agree with Simon here – it was just not the best thing is the world since rice. Some Wow and some Not-So-Wow Next is Scott Savol. How will he do? Bored says: Hmmm... it was rather... meh. I mean, it was good and all, but just not too wonderful. He reminds me of Ruben the lesser. It just wasn’t too horrible, but not too wonderful, either. Randy says: It was just ai’ight. It hasn’t quite lived up to his original auditions. Paula says: He brought it aaawwwwnnn. He sang on pitch, which was a plus. Simon says: He agrees with... *drum roll please* PAULA! And the crowd goes wild. Let’s go to the next singer now... Travis Tucker is the next singer. Last week, he was in the pit of meh and doom. Will he rise above the ashes this week? Bored says: The first thing that I noticed is that he, too, is wearing a button down shirt without any buttons buttoned. Is this a new trend that nobody told me about? If so, then I need to destroy all of my button down shirts... As far as his performance... well, he can dance, which helps him, but it just wasn’t the best thing ever. Much, much better than his performance last week, though. He’s slightly above the pit of meh-ness now. Randy says: The kid that we put through. Not the best vocals, but much better than last week. Paula says: She agrees with Randy. Simon says: That is why they put him through; not the best singer, but he’s got some personality. And some smooth dance moves. Nikko Smith is the next singer. Last week, going first certainly didn’t help him, but he still did pretty well. Will he sink or swim this week? Bored says: Woowww. Wow, wow, wow. Simply amazing. Quite possibly one of my top 2-3 favorite performances of the night. He blew the roof off tonight. Song choice was great. However, I do have a slight beef – what’s with all the Marvin Gaye songs? Not that I mind, as he’s one of my favorite artists, but still... he’s like the Stevie of this round. Randy says: Yo, man, you sang the song. I don’t know what else he would do, but ok... Paula says: she’s getting a little bit hot and heavy. That’s kind of... disturbing. Simon says: Very good, but he kinda looks like Bobby Brown... that’s an odd way to describe him. Anthony Federov is up next. Last week, he was kind of meh. Can he leave meh-land tonight? Bored says: Wow. Much, much better than last night. He showed off his voice tonight, big-time. And he’s much more tolerable than Clay. Downsides? Well, first off, the song was a little bit quiet at the beginning (although it progressively got better). And those jeans... someone, please get this kid a stylist that does NOT recommend pants that have cuts in them. If you paid enough attention, you could tell what kind of underwear he was wearing. And that’s just not right. Randy says: He worked it out, baby. Paula says: he kicked into a different gear at the end, and it was very good. Simon says: Amazing performance, but a little bit distracted by those pants. Simon and I are agreeing quite a bit tonight. The next singer is Bo Bice. Last week, he was Drifting Away... in a good way. Will he rock tonight? Bored says: Yes, he definitely rocks tonight. It’s a very rockilicious tonight. Rockity rockity rockity. He brings something new to the competition that nobody else does. A few slightly rough spots, but he definitely had enough charisma to pull it off. Randy says: And I quote... “Dude, that was the bomb!” Paula says: You are the real deal, Bo. Simon says: It was simply fantastic, and blew Simon away. Wow... Bo’s doing a pretty good job tonight. Final listings for the night? Well, aren’t I just oh-so-happy that you asked... 1. Nikko Smith/Bo Bice 2. Anwar Robinson 3. Mario Vasquez 4. Anthony Federov 5. Travis Tucker 6. David Brown 7. Scott Savol 8. Joseph Murena 9. Constantine Maurolis Who Bored wants to go home: Joseph and Constantine. No charisma for Joe and no screaming talent for Constantine. Who Bored thinks will go home: Scott and Joseph. No fanbase for Joe, and a relatively forgettable performance for Scott. Tomorrow: The ladies sing. Will they be better, as good as, or worse than the men? The answers to these and more... For more AI articles, go to Sirlinksalot - American Idol |
