Barbies, Puppetmaster, and King Pinhead

7/16 Episode

ARTicle by dfleminator

Sit back and relax! Get your favorite Big Brother snack out and let’s join in watching together the very first eviction ceremony of the season. Who will it be? Renny, the screaming banshee, or Brian, the Dr. Will wannabe? Stay tuned and we will find out all that and more.

This season has been advertised as going back to basics, and today we see that they have gone back to the BB1 tradition of a live studio audience there for the eviction ceremony. It’s exciting and you can feel the energy in the room. So let’s get this party started!

Of course, a Big Brother episode wouldn’t be the same without a long recap, of the week’s events, followed by a recap by Julie and then a further recap by the houseguests. I could give you a recap of the many recaps, but instead I’ll quickly sum it up here for you: Jerry won HOH, Renny and Jessie were nominated, Jessie won POV, Brian got put up and you’re caught up! Why it took Big Brother 5 minutes to say that, I don’t know.

It’s time to see the reactions from the veto ceremony, and as expected both Brian and Dan were shocked. Brian goes to talk to Jerry, and Jerry passes the buck along. He tells Brian that there was an ultimatum, and that he had to go with the group on this. Brian pushes to find out who was involved in this group of nine, and discovers that Ollie has stabbed him in the back.

Of course, Dan and Brian get together and decide that they need to confront Ollie. After all, Dan said from day one that he knew he could trust Ollie. (I guess he’s not such a good judge of character then.) Dan tells Ollie that he wouldn’t sacrifice his word for $500,000, and of course the veteran watchers of Big Brother know what that means, either Dan’s lying, or he’ll be out the door soon himself. Dan figures that April is the reason Ollie flipped on them. *DING DING DING! We have a winner!*

Next we get to see what Ollie and April are up to. Primarily they are admiring each other’s lips. They have both fallen head over heels in like. Or at least Ollie has. April doesn’t think that Ollie is a very strong player, and that she will use that to her advantage. Meanwhile, Ollie has the idea that he may be getting screwed over by this girl in the end, so he’s going to have to really fight it.

April, Keesha and Libra have decided to form a girls alliance to take out Brian. They do this in plain sight with the whole house outside, and Brian notices. He decides that his best chance to stay is to get the girls turned against each other this week. Brian’s plans have gone so well up to this point, let’s see if he can actually make this plan work.

Brian also has to come up with a Plan B. His Plan B is that he will make people like him by performing sock puppet shows for them. The problem with Plan B is that he really only does the puppet show with people that already like him. His puppet show is a mock of the eviction ceremony with Angie playing a very awkward sounding Julie Chen (awkward even for Julie Chen!). Sock puppet Brian jokes about making 8000 alliances in the first three hours in the house, and is quite proud of this Big Brother record. Renny knows she is going home. When it comes time for the sock puppets to vote, April needs Ollie’s help and they both vote out Brian, and so sock puppet Brian is evicted. Afterwards, Memphis gets up and leaves, and Angie, Dan, Steven and Brian are all trying to figure out a way to keep Brian. He thinks that in the case of a tie, Jerry would vote out Renny, so if they can get Memphis on side, they can keep him safe. What they are forgetting in this plan is that a few days earlier, Brian was going around telling everyone that they were evicting Memphis… I guess you gotta have hope though.

Battle of the Barbies

Next we have Angie and Keesha talking in the living room. Angie is trying to tell Keesha that they need to evict Renny to get the drama out of the house. (Seriously, has Angie not seen this show? There’s no way to get rid of the drama!) Keesha seems doubtful that it will resolve the drama, and she makes no commitment either way. Meanwhile, Libra and April see Angie talking to Keesha and April gets very suspicious of Keesha. This leads to April talking about Keesha in the yard. Unfortunately for April, she’s not very quiet. Keesha can hear what’s being said and gets pissed off. April loses it and storms off herself.

Libra is comforting April in one of the bedrooms when Renny comes in and gives April a hug. Libra tells Renny that Keesha just turned on them, and that Renny may be leaving after all.

It’s now time for Julie to ask questions of the houseguests. She asks Jessie if he and Renny have buried the hatchet, and he tells her that Renny hasn’t earned his respect yet. Renny tells Julie that Jessie has a lot to learn about life and that hopefully he’ll learn from this experience. She tells him that he should learn from his own advice that he needs to earn respect as much as she does. Julie also gives Libra the chance to defend herself regarding her choice to leave her two little babies at home. She says that she has made her decision based on having the support of her mother and her husband, and that as long as she has them in her corner, she can do anything.

Now it’s time for our very first HOH interview! Jerry tells Julie that he has no regrets, and he’s trying to make the best out of his decisions. He says that he is still here, and he expects to be here long after. When Julie asks about betraying Brian, Jerry admits it was difficult, and that he couldn’t wear his military shirt because of it. He does say that he feels very fortunate to have Jerry’s Angels in the house.

Goodbye "PuppetMaster"

Finally, it’s time for the vote. Before the vote, both Renny and Brian have a chance to say a few words. Renny says she’s been on the block for a long time, but that she feels she’s earned the respect of the group. Brian says he’s had a lot of fun, and that people need to remember it’s just a game.

Time for voting! It appears the only person who voted to keep Brian in was Dan. Even Angie and Steven decided to go along with the group and vote Brian out against their wishes.

As Brian gets ready to leave many hugs are exchanged, and the live audience cheers for Brian on the way out. Meanwhile, in the house Dan and Angie look visibly upset, and Steven claims he has to pee.

So did Brian learn his lesson? Judging by his interview with Julie, he realizes his fatal flaw in the game was to rush in far too fast. He claims that he built up a large army, only to realize there was no one on the other side. He hopes that Dan can survive, but doesn’t know if his conscience will allow him to do what he needs to do to stay in the game. When asked who the most underrated player in the game is, Brian says that it’s Memphis.

King Pinhead Rules the Roost

Well, we’ve gotten rid of our first houseguest so far, but the show is not over until we’ve also managed to crown a new Head of Household. Who will it be? Well, Julie announces that it will be a majority rules competition. We start off with the discovery that the majority of the houseguests believe that Jessie is more likely to commission a life size portrait of himself than Brian, Memphis disagrees and is kicked to the curb. Renny and Keesha are the only ones who think that Renny would be a better fashion consultant than April, and they are both out. Michelle, Dan and April go against the majority in saying that they would rather see Angie wear nothing but a bikini for the summer over Keesha. (I’m sensing hostility between April and Keesha in the last two questions). Everyone says that Memphis’ life story would be more interesting to read than Dan’s in fifty years, and Angie is the only one to say that Jerry wore the honey better than Jessie in the POV competition, and she is out. Everyone says that Steven is vain enough to believe that he will be the answer to the question instead of Libra, and everyone says that Ollie is more likely to convert to another religion to satisfy his partner than Dan. The houseguests are split on whether Memphis or Michelle are most likely to never get divorced, and so we end up in a tiebreaker situation between Libra, Ollie, Jessie and Steven. The tiebreaker question is how many total pillows are on the bed? Jessie comes the closest to the correct answer (which is 300 if you’re keeping track of useless trivia) and is crowned the new HOH.

So who will pinhead put up on the block? And will they stay on the block, or will POV save them? And then who will be the next to leave? Find out next time on Big Brother!
