One Moment and a Hot Mess

Week 3

ARTicle by funnygirl

Hello my friends. I'm back and unfortunately for you tuning for this week's "recipe" some sad news. Since I chose to drive separately this week there will be no adult libations for this recap. Thank goodness because the cattiness felt at my house after this epsisode was epic. Let's get on with it shall we?

Cat Deeley is looking absolutely dreadful tonight. Well as dreadful as a 5'9", legs like a giraffe, should have been a supermodel could possibly pull off. She's wearing a Marcia Brady wedding gown with a Farrah Fawcet Majors hairdo. Yeah, I used Farrah's married name because the hair was circa Lee Majors period in her life. Remember the poster? I know a bunch of guys my age who probably still own it.

Anyhoo -- our guest judge this week is one of my personal faves...Allan Shankman. He's so darn colorful and his constructive criticism is SO helpful. I just wish he would have brought a roll of duct tape for the screamer.

I guess I should mention the dancers were asked to tell us something about their partners that we don't already know. It was a pretty stupid idea and the responses were just as pitiful so I'll leave it out to save you to effort.

Kherrington & Twitch They are starting off this evening with hip hop and Tabitha and Napolean are back in the house as choreographers this week so we'll see some innovation. Twitch is the first person to tell us how terriried he is of dancing in his own genre' since he will be expected to really bring it. They are dancing to Busta Rhymes "Don't Touche Me" and the premise of their dance is a prison break. I have to say I didn't like it. Now before the boos start, I went back and watched it several times and I just didn't like it. I don't know whether it was Kherrington's too big smile popping in at places where she was supposed to be hard or it was just lacking in general. I just wasn't as ga-ga as the paid judges were.

I have to say that I'm a little spoiled by America's Best Dance Crew right now. That kind of hip-hop is just sick compared to what they are show-casing here. In fact, I couldn't help but notice that at one point during the evening Nigel pointed out that SYTYCD was the real "No. 1 dance show on television" because that's how Randy Jackson had the audacity to open ABDC this past week. I do have to agree with Nygel, however, if you get a chance check out the other No. 1 show.

Coutney G and Gev - They pick the Rumba and it is choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie. "Wishing on a Star" by Rose Royce is there song and it's very sultry. Other than a small moment at the front of the dance when Courtney's shoe got caught in the hem of her barely-there dress, they pulled it off. Could it have been better? Absolutely, but I think they really did a fine job.

Comfort and Chris This is one of the couples I would love to have lunch with. They seem like they laugh a lot around each other. They are taking on a Tyce Diorio Jazz number to Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson. I loved it and thought it was performed well. Considering the music (which I detest) I thought they did a great job. The "other" judges do not agree with me. They loathe the spin these two put on the dance. They practically scold them for essentially ruining a Tyce Diorio choreographed number. I keep waiting for Comfort to get all ghetto on them, but she's extremely tolerant of their comments. You just know she wants to pop a cap in their asses though.

Jessica and Will Doriana Sanchez choreographs a number that is supposed to showcase Jessica's talents since she got brutally attacked by the judges last week. She even went so far as to tell Jessica she needs to settle down and take it seriously. Jessica looks like she's going to crack up in Doriana's face and she's probably thinking "it's disco, not Swan Lake". They dance to "Heaven Must Have Sent You" by Bonnie Pointer. The only thing I have down on my notes is "hot mess". Jessica can't keep up with Will to save her life. Will doesn't even attempt to come down to her level. I can't count the number of times Jessica stumbled, slipped or missed a catch. The show judges continue to slobber all over Will and I'm shocked. If there were Comfort and Chris, they would have told Chris that he needs to match Comfort's capabilities on the dance floor or vice versa. Instead, they practically apologize to Chris for having such a terrible partnering. Mary tries to give her some props, but you can tell it's forced. I don't know why they bothered to get rid of Debbie Allen (who I personally worship as a choreographer) because he's getting the favoritism anyway.

Kourtney L and Matt Contemporary is their dance for the evening and we get a new choreographer this week. Sonya Tayek appears on our screen with the first mohawk I've ever envied. She looks so COOL! They put together a piece about cartoon characters to the sound of Wreslters" by Hot Chip. I absolutely loved it. It was so fun and different. I totally got the vibe and thought they did a beautiful job. The judges agree with me but they still pick on Matt for being too stiff in his upper body. Whatever!

Chelsea T and Thayne They pull the dreaded Quick Step out of the hat and are dancing to Phil Collins' version of "You Can't Hurry Love". This is another one of my favorite couples who I believe get screwed every week either by choreography or music. I know they need to make it work for them, but I defy one person to tell me that they could have danced that choreography to that song. I give them credit, they looked beautiful but it was a train wreck. I hope the audience votes out of pity for them.

Chelsia H. & Mark Another couple I just love to watch. They pick hip hop and I'm a little nervous for them. He's so quirky and she's too literal. Napolean & Tabitha give them a love story of sorts to perform. Leona Lewis "Bleeding Love" is the song and it's somewhat slow. Wait a minute this is different. It's a lyrical type hip hop and it's good, it's real good! It's so good I break out a Mary Murphy squeal of my own. Holy cow was Mark convincing and I swear a tear almost came down Chelsea's cheek at the end. The judges love it too. I believe we've had our first real "moment" of the show this season.

Our final dance tonight is the Samba danced by Katee and Joshua. These two are my picked to go to the finals. They are dancing to "Baila Baila" by Angel Via. Ooh Lordy child that was "steamy"!! They pull off for ballroom what our Rumba contestants earlier on just couldn't. Holy spandex batman was Joshua's pants tight. Thank you Nygel for making it worse by having him turn around. I had to pause the ole TiVo for a moment and get a screen cap of that! I think that Joshua's hips definitely outperformed Katee's but she did a really good job of being sexy as instructed.

That's it folks. It was another good show. I have written down in my notes that Jessica/Will and Chelsea/Thayne in bottom 3; however, I wasn't able to pick a third couple for it. Hmmm, should make for an interesting show tonight.
