Hell's Kitchen - Final Five

Can you say incompetent AND jealous?

ARTicle by chairo

Well folks we’re down to the wire with only five budding chefs left: the student, Christina, the egomaniacal Jen, steady Corey, pigsty Petrozza and General Bobby. One would think at this point in the show these would be the cream of the crop … not SOUR cream as most of them appear to be.

There is so much bad blood between Jen and everyone else that even sworn enemies, Corey and Christina have bonded over their dislike for Jen. She is moody, constantly pouting, always singing her own praises and falls apart when criticized. Jen is the evil witch of the season and that is the only thing everyone else agrees on.

When the chef hopefuls arrive in the kitchen Chef Ramsay shows them how to make lobster spaghetti, perfectly and efficiently. It is a joy to watch him prepare this dish after so many weeks of fires and bad cooking by the Executive chef wannabes.

Chef tells them that for the first time ever Hell’s Kitchen is going to have a cooking school and they are going to teach their students how to make the dish, Ramsay just prepared. They are NOT to do any hands on work, the student is to do everything. He tells them a great chef should be a great teacher.

About that time 5 very sexy, very pampered housewives arrive at Hell’s Kitchen … one even carrying a dog, that Ramsay takes and gives to someone else to watch.

During the course of the contest Jen is constantly being very hands on when Ramsay isn’t watching. When he does catch her for the second or third time he tells her to stop or she will be disqualified. Typical Jen, decides she has to do things herself if she wants something done right, but with the threat of disqualification she decides to abide by the rules.

The house wives, have never cooked before and one is horrified she has to kill at lobster, but bucks up and dumps it into the boiling water. When they are done Ramsay judges each person’s ability to teach by the quality of the finished product.

Petrozza’s student (who he could barely stop oogling) did well enough but the spaghetti was too thin.

Christina’s student receives high praise with a ‘perfect’ verdict from Ramsay.

Bobby’s student didn’t fare so well. The spaghetti was chopped up and the seasoning was not good.

Corey’s efforts to teach received another very well done.

Last and definitely least was Jen’s student. The spaghetti was all clumped together and there was no sauce.

Ramsay announced the best teachers in Hell’s Kitchen were Christina and Corey. Christina got the win, and the pampered house wives who have never cooked before and will probably never cook again received a set of Ramsay’s own cookware, which will probably make nice gifts for them to pass on to some less fortunate house wives they may know.

The losers punishment was to make Hell’s Kitchen sparkle. None, needless to say were very happy about this, especially Bobby and of course Jen. Bobby blamed his always losing on other people and Jen felt she did better than the others, she just had a stupid student.

Christina won a special lunch with Ramsay being cooked and served by two Executive chefs, Ben Ford and I believe the other said his name was Mark Peel, but won’t swear to that one. They prepared the meal in Hell’s Kitchen and showed Christina many of their secrets for success.

Jen of course kept finding reasons to clean near them so she could hear what they were saying. Then Ramsay called Bobby over to take the leftover and put them in the garbage … but as it turned out Jen was the garbage can … she wanted to taste what had been prepared. Bobby was really disgusted that she was eating what amounted to garbage.

Mean time, while Christina was basking in the joy of the win, ALL of the others were trashing her and saying how she didn’t deserve the win. Corey was upset because she felt she had done the better job and was a better chef.

Isn’t it amazing how jealousy can rear its ugly head when you are on the losing side. None of these people ever want to take responsibility for their failures. It’s always that someone else was worse or some undeserving person stole their reward.

As they were all getting prepared for the evenings meal Christina tried to share with the others some of the things she had learned but they all tuned her out and both Jen and Corey wished she’d just close her mouth.

Ramsay told them tonight would be a tough hurdle for them, because in addition to the regular diners there would also be a 12 pop. I sure didn’t know what the heck he was talking about and from their expressions it didn’t appear that some of the others did either. Ramsay told them there would be 12 appetizers, 12 entrees and 12 deserts, so I assumed it just meant they would have to make 12 different things in each group. I was wrong (I spoke this in a whisper … don’t tell anyone I admitted to being wrong)

Our student chef was a standout tonight. She was on appetizers and did them fantastically after one slight misstep in the very beginning. Corey was also working appetizers/deserts and the two were working together like they were best friends.

The restaurant was filled to capacity with 120 guests. This seemed to undermine the rest of the cooks/chefs. Bobby messed up the first of the meat. Jen kept serving undercooked or overcooked fish. Petrozza was just in a world of his own.

Having seen Jen mess up the fish twice, Jean Phillip got concerned and told the waiters to push the beef. No sooner had the words left his lips then he went back to the kitchen only to discover Bobby was messing up the beef. So he went back and told everyone to push the chicken. This was actually quite hilarious but you probably had to see it to get it.

At one point Petrozza picked up one of Jen’s fish dishes and took it to the counter. Ramsay didn’t see who did it but jumped all over Jen because the order was complete. Jen tried to talk to him and he cut her off and said if denial and blame were that important to her when people were out there waiting for their food, maybe she just wanted to go home. She continued to try to talk and he continued to get angry at her. OF course in her little one on one with the camera, she was angry she was getting blamed for something she didn’t do … but she said nary a word about how she abused the fish by under and over cooking it. I am sure that will turn out to be someone else’s fault too.

Finally I found out what a pop 12 was. Twelve people all coming in together at the same time and everyone in that group have to be served at the same time.

With problems, except for Christina and Corey’s stations, service is completed for the first time. Corey said in her camera time that even though she and Christina hate each other they do work well together and that’s as it should be.

Ramsay chose Christina as the outstanding chef of the evening and gave her the responsibility of nominating two for eviction. Jen and Bobby he called incompetent and Petrozza he called a dreamer (also a slob, but that's my opinon)

Of course Jen knows because she is the best chef and the stiffest competition Christina will nominate her. (This girl is a legend in her own mind)

When the time came Christina nominated Jen and Bobby. Jen for her attitude and how she brings everyone down and Bobby because he did such a bad job tonight.

Once again Jen sang her own praises and how she has changed yada yada yada.

Bobby typical excuses.

Sent home … Bobby.

Why can’t Ramsay just send Jen home and be done with it? So irritating, especially after he asked Christina who should go home and she said Jen. We leave for this week with Jen still saying she is the strongest chef and everyone else is just afraid to compete with her ……… give me a break, PLEASE evict this woman.
