Last week on The Cut: Julie talked about how she never talked to gay people, Princess talked too much about sex, Ears talked about himself, and Chris... talked, which led to his elimination. 13 contestants remain – which crazy contestant will give the runway fever tonight?
The preview annoys everyone, the credits roll, the commercials commence and end, and we finally get the necessary shots with the contestants returning to the SoHo loft and everyone being shocked about Chris’ elimination. James is telling Jacko about how nothing is guaranteed, and Jacko says that he doesn’t feel safe at all. Foreshadowing? Oh, how we hope so.
The next morning, all of the contestants gather to meet Tommy, who tells them about Fashion Week, or something like that. However, nobody really cares. Thus, Tommy gets to the challenge – this week, they’ll be designing dresses! Finally! Something that actually involves clothing!!!! The catch? Well, they’re going to have to find their own models.
I’m thinking that this is going to be a disaster...
This week, Wes and Jacko pick the teams. Wes’ first pick is Deanna, and nobody is surprised. Jacko’s first choice is Princess, which surprises everyone because, well, Princess has kind of screwed up the last two weeks.
The teams end up being Wes, Deanna, Liz, James, Julie, Felix, and Ears versus Jacko, Princess, Chris C., Shauna, Jessica, and the new “almost always picked near the end and very, very silent” person, Rob. I feel bad for the poor guy – always on the losing team, but it’s never actually his fault, even though we never actually see him do any work. Ears is picked last, and nobody is surprised. Not even him, actually. Team Wes is given the yellow workspace and team Jacko is given the blue workspace. This week, the socializing challenge is for two people on each team, and it’s a... party with Tommy! Chris C., Rob, Wes, and Deanna decide to go, and are immediately whisked away on the limo. In the limo, Chris C. has his little “oh my gosh, Tommy likes me, let me do my hair all pretty” moment, and everyone else stares and shakes their heads.
Over on team yellow, there are already team problems as Ears and Liz have ideas shot down. Over on blue, however, Princess has already come up with an idea that the team is already raving about it. Jacko promises that he can sew it, and, as Princess said, their teams appears to be on and poppin’. And for that, we are grateful, because we want to see Princess do well since... well... she’s the funniest person on the whole show. Sorry, Jacko, but you lost out on that race.
In the meanwhile, the Tommy par-tay people go to Bloomingdales to buy some nice clothing for their party with Tommy and all of his friends. Deanna and Wes go shopping together, and they appear to be complimenting each other rather well. While in the dressing room, Deanna mentions that she’d want to see Chris in tighter pants, and Wes starts talking about how Rob and Chris want to wear baggy jeans and painted T-shirts. In cut scenes, we see them doing... exactly that. Rob mentions that he felt guilty for buying the stuff because of his family, to which Mr. IWantToHaveTommy’sBabies says that this challenge is for him and not for his family. Rob mentions that he understands that and his guilt is only because he’s used to thinking that way, but IWantTommysBabies cuts him off and talks about how he feels guilty when he buys a pair of jeans because he doesn’t need it. I roll my eyes while he’s talking.
With 26 hours remaining, the yellow team goes out to buy some fabrics, and Liz mentions that she’s never designed a dress before. Soon, team blue also goes to the same place to get their fabrics. I’m hoping that a brawl will take place between Julie and Jacko, but, alas, I pray to no avail. Jacko notes that his team will do fine as long as they don’t step on his toes. Foreshadowing, please work your magic now... The blue team gets in and gets out before the yellow team has actually finished their concepts.
In the meanwhile, Jessica must find a model to wear the creation, and she’s having absolutely no luck. Over in the SoHo blue cutting room, Jacko has decided to take charge and entirely re-do one of Princess’ designs... without her knowing. Jacko, you are digging yourself deeper and deeper into a hole. And I LOVE it. If he goes... my brain will explode with happiness. Over on the yellow side, the seamstress comes, and the dresses being done by James/Felix and Liz are being worked on. However, the Julie/Ears dress isn’t going so well. Mainly because, well, Ears is attempting to be involved with it. Although Julie is responsible for almost everything to do with the dress, Ears insists on giving his stupid idea. This specific stupid idea involves putting a bra on the evening gown. Julie says that if they added the bra then the person would be out clubbing, and I must admit that I agree with her. I don’t think Tommy wants tack-ho in his outfits... In the confessional, Ears says that Julie isn’t sexy with him and she wouldn’t know what Tommy would want. Luckily for the team, Julie destroys Ears’ idea, and relegates him to menial tasks. Woohoo!
That night, the four lucky people not designing dresses go to par-tay and it appears that none of them seem to mess up horribly during the “talk with Tommy” segment. However, when Tommy lets them loose on the crowd, Chris goes to the center with a microphone stolen from a random store and sings a song about how much that he loves the opportunity given to him by Tommy, but it turns out that he’s lip-synching and the crowd starts booing and he does a hoe-down, Ashlee Simpson style, before running out of the building... forever!they STILL do fine. Grrrr! I want drama! I want excitement! I WANT TO SEE CHRIS MAKE A FOOL OF HIMSELF! Wes gets especially lucky during his mingling, meeting a woman that’s willing to meet with his group tomorrow and model for them.
Oh, how we wish his team already knew about this.
Why do I say this, you ask? Well, because in the next scene, Liz and Ears The Womanizer go out looking for a model. Ears continues his habit of thinking with the wrong head by pointing out all of the women that are scantily clad or look like hookers. After a while Liz tells him to shut up, but he’s still like a kid in a (horribly perverted) pet store, saying “ooh, could we take that one home? How about that one? I promise I’ll remember to feed her and take her for walks, I promise!” As much as I despise Jacko and Chris, I’m hoping that it’s a double elimination or something so that Ears can go. I just don’t see how such little talent can get so far... I’d take Vlada over him, for crying out loud! Ears contends that Liz should not be here, but she’s a bunch better than him. Over on the other team, Jessica looks around downtown NYC for people to do her model. You would think that she would somehow be able to do this easily because she was a Miss Minnesota, but noooo. Apparently, being Miss Minnesota doesn’t mean that you could get anyone to do anything at any time. I feel... betrayed, somehow. Next, they’ll be telling me that being Miss Minnesota doesn’t mean that you can fly. And that will truly be a sad day. After the commercial break, she finally finds a perfect model, and helps her become a star *does dramatic pose*
Over on team yellow, Wes and Deanna get back almost immediately to work on the project, and it turns out that Wes’ model will save the day. Over on team Jacko Blue, Rob and Wes have returned, but Jacko won’t let them actually do anything. It’s looking like Jacko has effectively begun to rule his cutting room with an iron fist. The next day, Shauna has recovered from her mysterious illness (which, luckily for her and my gag reflex, does not appear to be mono or a mono-like virus), and upon return to the cutting room realizes that none of the dresses are actually complete. Both her and Princess talk to Jacko, but when they start talking he goes on a diva-fit and begins whining about how he can’t think about two things at once and how he needs his space while cutting. At one point, he even pushes everyone else out of the way so that he can work on his preciouses. We all worry for his safety this week.... Ok, not really. Not at all, actually – if he goes, the happier I am...
Over on team yellow, the model has arrived and she’s already trying on the three completed dresses. First on is Felix and James’ creation, which seems to fit rather well on her, although the strips of color are a little too much for me. While Julie’s dress (with little to no help from Ears) fits her well, it makes me think that the model is some kind of velvety green furry monster that belongs on Sesame Street instead of a runway. Tommy grabs the teams and tells them that the teams will only show one dress on the Fashion runway. Team Yellow chooses Liz’s dress, and Jacko and co. pick Princess’ design.
It’s time for the style forum! Excitement! Both teams get prepared and rush over to the forums. Felix says that Jacko might have overshot the bill because he’s so flamboyant. Preach on, brotha! Finally, Felix says something that I agree with.
The contestants arrive at the style forum and are greeted by Tommy. They start of with the party, and Tommy tells the four that went that they handled themselves very well. Tommy mentions that he’s excited to see what the teams designed. Elizabeth says that she’s never designed a dress, and mentions that the dress that the model is wearing is her idea. Over on team Blue, the teammates say that it’s Prtincess’ idea. The yellow team model finally comes out and looks absolutely stunning, although the thing does look like a big bedroom sheet cut up and draped over her shoulders. The blue teams’ dress idea looks equally as interesting, but the material is very, very odd. It’s an odd shiny paper-like material that distracts me very, very easily. Tommy likes both of the models, and his only contention with the yellow team’s dress is that there is a pin sticking out of it. The horror! The horror! The initial concept for team blue is very good, says Tommy, but the execution is poor. Thus, Elizabeth’s dress won! She starts crying, and everyone rejoices.
Tommy says that the blue team must talk with him, and Jacko says that he executed the dress. He’s just digging himself into his little hole. Jessica says that the dress isn’t exactly what they had imagined, and that Jacko changed it some during the execution. Princess says that it’s not her original design and that it changed when Jacko was working. Jacko disagrees, saying that nobody told him that he was making a mistake. Jessica talks again, saying that he was always talking. Tommy suddenly launches into Jessica, asking what Jessica did, and she begins digging herself into a hole, talking about how she worked on the model. Tommy obviously isn’t that impressed, as she sends her into the pit. Princess and Jacko also go into the pit. After all is said and done, the one out of style tonight is...
JACKO!! WOOOHOOO! YAY! YAY YAY YAY!!!!
