Title: DWTS 2008 #2
Description: double elimination tonight
chairo - March 25, 2008 01:47 PM (GMT)
Sorry to say I still don't know the names of all the dancers. Tonight both a male and female star will eliminated. Though a real tennis jewel, and one of those names I can't remember, our female tennis star is probably (or rather should be) saying goodbye tonight.
She is very stiff and doesn't flow with the music. Christy (figure skater) on the other hand is this years phenom. (female) and is doing quite awesome. I think being a figure skater is a great plus for her.
Marlee is a surprise. She is doing well and I am impressed with her. She said last night she received an email asking if she would be deaf through the whole show. It was a hoot the way it was told.
On the guys side, lots of great faces and bodies to look at but Mario is probably the guy to beat. I love latin guy and think he is getting better. Steve is a surprise though the judges I believe are not scoring him fairly.
Penn should go home tonight, but then that other big guy with big teeth isn't that great either.
I'll learn names when this gets exciting.
BTW for the Presley fans for a 61 year old woman she is doing very well.
chairo - March 28, 2008 04:14 PM (GMT)
Well the tennis player and the magician are gone. No big surprise. They are the two I'd have voted out if I had bothered to vote. I usually wait until things get closer to the end before I cast my important vote.
chairo - April 1, 2008 02:12 PM (GMT)
The dancers were pretty good last night. Marlee is amazing. It's so hard to believe she can keep the timing as she does.
Priscilla was awesome. The judges praised her and I think she had the second highest score of the evening. Kristy of course had the highest even though they weren't as impressed with her as usual.
Mario was lacking and didn't get a very good score. The Tony winner, can't remember her name had very low scores. Unless America really votes for her she will be gone tonight.
funnygirl - April 1, 2008 02:32 PM (GMT)
The judges had it right last night. The pleasant surprises of the evening for me were Steve Gutenberg and Marlee.
I think you are right about Tony Dobalani's partner. I love how she brings out the kid in him. Last year he was so serious with Jane Seymore.
chairo - April 2, 2008 12:05 PM (GMT)
I can't believe Steve went home. The broadway woman was much worse than him. Looks like it's going to be another one of those years
funnygirl - April 2, 2008 04:53 PM (GMT)
I think Tony's fans kept Marissa in, however, she wasn't awful in her dancing, just boring. NOt only that but she's one of us up there and her excitement is infectious where Steve's rainbows & moonbeams routine was getting a little creepy.
I thought the encore dance of him and Jonathan was hysterical. I'm glad Adam Carolla is around for another week. Mark & Julianne's dance during Kylie's second song was amazing to watch.
chairo - April 8, 2008 01:11 AM (GMT)
I thought it was hilarious tonight that Cheryl took Christian to her studio and Drew was there. I read recently that she and Drew are having an affair and have been since they danced together. She left her boyfriend and he is having marital problems because of this (DUH!)
I liked the show tonight. So far I think Adam is low man on the totem pole. He's fun to watch but if these people learn anything they should learn Len doesn't like the gimmicks
chairo - April 8, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
Adam ended up in last place. Marissa got better scores but I didn't really see all that much of an improvement myself. She still seemed less fluid than the others.
Marlee is not being given an easy time just because of her handicap. She did well however and most of the criticism was her posture.
The waltz tonight seemed to make the judges happier than the paso.
Cristian did a great job and got his highest score to date.
Since they aren't revealing bottom two this year it's more than likely going to be Adam gone tonight. But then I thought Marissa was gone last week so what do I know
funnygirl - April 8, 2008 03:19 PM (GMT)
I did see an improvement in Marissa last night. I thought she and Tony were quite entertaining.
I thought Marlee was exquisite as well as Edyta and Jaon. However, I didnt' think Jason deserved a 29. He was nowhere near as fabulous as Christi and Mark.
I think Adam is probably the only one left who came into this show with zero dance training of any kind and I think he did well for him.
I'm still not feeling the Mario love, but that's because I'm not a fan of his partner AT ALL!
I have no guess as to who is going home tonight.
You are not the first person to talk about the Cheryl/Drew rumor today Chairo. Speaking of Cheryl, is it just me or does anybody else get a yucky vibe from her?
chairo - April 8, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
I defintely don't care for Cheryl and never have. She has always seemed to much in love with herself. She doesn't realize most of the people she is working with are more famous than she is and her fame only comes from this show. The way she was treating her partner last night during the rehearsal had me embarrassed for her partner. She can be a real negative person.
I liked Christi and Mark but feel she has an advantage being a skater. Meaning she may not know the moves without skates, but the elegance and movements and lines were already there. At least Apollo was a sports person and improved week after week. I feel anyone with the type of experience Christi has, has an advantage.
I did like Jason's performance very much and feel it was MORE deserving of the high score because he didn't have dance training.
As for Marissa there was improvement but let's face it she is not going to win and it's just a matter of when she goes home.
I like Pricilla but don't see her winning, unless it is the Elvis fan vote that keeps her in the long run .... of course a lot of Elvis fans disliked her for leaving him so who knows.
Cristian, is awesome to look at but I do not think he is the awesom Latin dance one might have expected.
I am not into Mario. Seems like a nice guy but like you I am not fan of his partner. Rumors are that she was seen kissing THIS Mario outside of a club because she is upset Mario Lopez will not admit publically they are a couple.
I think the best chemistry on the show is between Priscilla and her partner and Jason and Edyta
chairo - April 9, 2008 12:07 PM (GMT)
No big surprise, Adam went home last night. He was fun to watch but he really couldn't dance. However Marissa would have been my preference. At least Adam entertained.
funnygirl - April 9, 2008 02:39 PM (GMT)
I think the right couples were in bottom two, but I would have preferred Cilla going over Adam. At least he has a personality. HOwever, she did show a glimmer of one during their confessional. :laugh
chairo - April 9, 2008 02:45 PM (GMT)
Did I miss something? They said they were not going to announce the bottom two anymore? I didn't get to see the whole show, so I can't say they didn't change their mind. Priscilla is this years Seymore ... give the lady a break ... she is over 60
chairo - April 15, 2008 11:33 AM (GMT)
From what Priscilla said tonight SHE figured she was in the bottom two because she had the second lowest score from the judges last week. We don't know if America's vote kept her in that position of not.
Cristian and ? Elizabeth along with Priscilla and Marlee got the lowest scores. Based completly on last night's dance my guess is ? Elizabeth will go home (can't remember her first name)
Marlee probably should be the one to leave but I will be surprised if that happens
Marissa did much better but I still don't see her winning
The hunky football player (his name slips my mind also) and Christi won the night as usual.
I actually didn't think anyone was a standout last night. The Latin dances are usually my favs but I just didn't see anyone who really nailed it.
On a side note did anyone else hear about Paula Abdul trying to get on the next show. There is a question as to whether or not the fact she choreographs dances if she could be considered a non dancing star.
The execs at DWTS don't see that as a conflict. The big conflict is if her network will let her appear on another network. I guess they are going to discuss this and see if the two can come to terms .... Personally I don't think Paula can be considered a non-dancer but then I didn't think Christy Y should be considered a non dancer either.
funnygirl - April 15, 2008 02:32 PM (GMT)
Okay, just to clarify what Chairo was so nicely trying to sum up:
Elizabeth = Shannon Elizabeth (Dereck's partner)
Hunky football player = Jason
I think the bottom two will be Shannon and Cilla with Cilla going home. Paula Abdul would be a train wreck on this show. Besides, I thought with all of her back woes it would be excrutiating for her. It would give her a pretty good idea of how big her fan base really isn't. :D
chairo - April 15, 2008 02:48 PM (GMT)
Thanks FG ... I actually was sure her name was Shannon, but for some reason it didn't sound right. All I knew for sure was that it isn't Natalie ... LOL
You might be right about Priscilla but I hope not. I have a love hate relationship with her. I have hated her for years for dumping Elvis but loved her on Dallas (?) I think that's the one she was on.
That will be the test for her ... do people remember her for being a good actress or do they remember her for dumping the REAL Idol?
I also want her to stay because she is closer to my age than the rest and it's nice to see we don't all fall apart when we hit 'middle age' lol.
Jason is awesome and Cristian is great to look at but I actually thought Cristian was a little lacking last night was was Mario. I expected all these hot guys to blow me away with the Latin dances and they just didn't with Jason coming the closest.
I was pretty disappointed with all of the women also. However I honestly don't think Shannon should go home for one bad night. But America always seems to vote off the young attractive women.
Marissa as I said did much better but on the whole she is my least favorite ... it's her HAIR. It drives me crazy. I can't see her dance because I can't take my eyes off that head of wild hair
Christy is the fav. But we know that means nothing. In the past favs have faded into the sunset and been voted out. I have to believe more women watch this than men because men have been the winners too often. Jason has a real shot this year. I am not so sure about Mario. Are there any other men left? OH yeah Cristian .. great to look at and fun to listen to but not really a great dancer.
I like Marlee but if she is to be judges on the same scale as the other dancers (they always say the handicapped dancers will not get special treatment) she should be the one going home tonight.
funnygirl - April 15, 2008 02:55 PM (GMT)
I disagree about Marlee. I thought she was much better than Cilla last night. It's not the judges that blow her handicap out of proportion, it's the viewers. Remember Heather and that stupid back-flip she allegedly did. Was really all that impressive? I didn't think so. We're talking about somebody who basically hears or feels a beat to the music and is able to translate it into some pretty good dance movements. This just wasn't her dance, but she's performed far better than most of the other gals on the show as far as musicality goes.
chairo - April 16, 2008 11:53 AM (GMT)
Well Priscilla and Cristian were in bottom two and Priscilla went home. I must say she was one of the classiest losers I have seen. I will sort of miss her. I never expected her to win but there are others worse than her but I guess it doesn't matter in which order they leave. All the polls are predicting a Christy Y win this season and there is also a lot of discontent on this because people seem to feel as I do ... technically she is a dancer, she knew the 'lines' and movements, just did them on skates.
Jason could pull out a win but good grief, how many football players are going to win this thing?
funnygirl - April 16, 2008 02:46 PM (GMT)
They can predict all they want, but they're generally wrong. You just don't know what's going to happen. I don't care if they've danced before. As long as it's not ballroom. I like to watch the dancers grow with each week, but I don't think the show would hold it's appeal if they were all a bunch of Steve Guttenberg's and Monica Seles'. I enjoy watching her dance. I also enjoyed Adam Carolla's performances for sheer entertainment purposes and his feedback after the fact. It's getting to the point for me that it's not so much about the stars, but the pros they are with. ;)
chairo - April 16, 2008 03:25 PM (GMT)
There is a finese people get when they dance whether on skates or in the street. Those who have no experience at all in my opinion are at a disadvantage. I enjoy watching Kristy I just don't think its fair. She knows the extensions and she knows the grace required. If you have watched her skate it's about as close to ballroom as you can get without high heels.
I'd rather see more Priscillas and Shannons and even Steves. Admittedly some of the best entertainment over the years has not been from the best dancers. George Hamilton was never going to win but he sure could entertain. Personally I think that's why Marissa is still there. She isn't a great dancer but she does entertain.
I would not find it interesting just watching a lot of people dance for a prize. The learning, personality and if they captivate me is my criteria. I am not all that concerned with if they bend their arms or not.
Same with SYTYCD .... I have always been more for the one I enjoy watching rather than the ones who don't make mistakes.
I sort of would like to see Simon, rather than Paula appear on this show. He has more entertainment value.
funnygirl - April 16, 2008 04:34 PM (GMT)
I agree and disagree on some of your points. I think the show needs somebody else up to Christy's caliber. It would push her to do something with a little more pizzazz. Mark is such a fantastic choreographer, but he appears to be playing it safe.
I don't think Simon has an ounce of rhythm so it would be more entertaining since he wouldn't be able to walk to the beat. Paula would just be all over the place. I heard an interview with Donny Osmond today and he's starting to cave and we may see him next season!!
chairo - April 22, 2008 11:44 AM (GMT)
I have to say I didn't really like the show last night. Jason was awesome and if it was up to me I'd make him the winner right now and move on to the next season. LOL
Mario and Marissa also received praise from the judges.
Kristi received the first perfect score of the season with her jive.
Cristian received his highest score so far.
The rest were okay but nothing to write home about.
The country number was fun to watch but there were a lot of mis steps and I felt bad for Tony doing his lift with Marissa ... it started well but she stumbled coming out of it.
My pick to go home would be Marlee. I like her but she has gone far enough .... it's nice to give people with handicaps a shot and some have done well, but on these fast Latin dances (and in the group number) Marlee just can't do what the others can. I admire her efforts and thought it was great to see Henry Winkler come and giver her a pep talk
I see Shannon and Marlee in bottom two ... at least that is the way it SHOULD be. America loves Marlee however and doesn't seem to care that much for Shannon and Cristian.
funnygirl - April 22, 2008 03:17 PM (GMT)
I thought the best of the night were Christy and Mark and I thought Christian did fantastic in his Fox Trot. I also thought Marissa did a very beautiful Viennese Waltz and the rest were just meh.
I thought Len was spot on about Mario and disagreed with his 9. Then again you can't blame Mario all his partner knows is raunch.
I wasn't a huge fan of Jason's dance last night.
I do agree with you on bottom 2. I thought Marlee's dance was very forced by Fabian. It's too bad because I would have loved to see him go full out since he's the Mambo King. :(
chairo - April 23, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
Marlee gracefully said good bye. It was the right choice.
funnygirl - April 23, 2008 02:26 PM (GMT)
Yeah, she's a stunning lady who is all class. I"m going to miss her this season. I absolutely LOVED her cheetah costume.
I thought the whole thing with Shannon and Dereck was just a little too forced. I think she lost some of her fan-base with her confessionals.
chairo - April 29, 2008 11:53 AM (GMT)
Well we had some good and some bad last night. I was so sorry about what happened to Cristian. I do object to the scores given by the judges. They were SUPPOSED to judge based on the dance they were able to see up until the injury which was hot and right on. 7's were not indicative of the dance to the point of injury ... it was unfair.
I did agree that Kristi was not on top of things last night. Of course I think everyone expects more from her
I loved Shannon's dances she did great
Mario's latin dance was awesome
Jason blew me away with both of his dances.
Marissa is doing better and it looks like she may be the underdog who just may pull this out.
Did I miss anyone? If so I must not have been impressed but I think we are down to five?! I am having a senile moment .. or maybe a blond moment ... somebody HELP!
funnygirl - April 29, 2008 03:11 PM (GMT)
I thought they were quite generous with Christian's 7s. He was off a LOT prior to the injury. In fact, I was thinking when he started that they put all of their efforts into the first dance.
I thought SHannon's second dance was laughable and agreed with the judges about her awkwardness.
THe rest were pretty good. I agreed Kristy was off for her first dance, but I thought their second dance was worthy of a 30!!
Is it just me or did anyone else see 3 (count 'em) lifts in Jason's second dance? I did like that they put it to the NFL music. That was pretty clever.
chairo - April 29, 2008 05:00 PM (GMT)
I did see the one lift and so did Carrie Ann which cost them a point. Guess I didn't watch close enough to catch the other two.
chairo - April 30, 2008 10:02 AM (GMT)
I was going to say the wrong person went home, but Shannon was not going to win this and neither is Cristian. My prediction .. Kristi and Jason going to the final two. I like Jason better but I'd also like to see a woman win.
All the gossip yesterday about Cristian faking his injury bothers me. Last night it became pretty clear the injury was real ... but I think it would have been better for him to leave.
funnygirl - April 30, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
I think the reason people (myself included) were going toward "faking it" is because he was screwing up from the moment the music started and it would be a great cover-up and good for sympathy votes. They way Carrie Ann was going on you would think the man was looking like one of the pros, but he wasn't. He was off from the first beat.
I'm so glad that the whiner left the show. I am going to miss Dereck every week, but she just sucked and refused to believe it.
chairo - April 30, 2008 03:13 PM (GMT)
I am on opposite ends with you again. I liked Shannon. She didn't have much in the way of hip action and never really improved in that area. But I enjoyed watching her much more than Marissa. I am happy to see the big hair was not in play this week.
There is an interview somewhere on the net with Mario and he mentions the injury to Cristian ... he said he thought for about one second it was fake because it was just about the time Cristian had a mis step. However the ambulance was real. The paramedics were real and the injury was real. There are still some doubts as to whether or not he will be ABLE to dance in the future due to the injury to his arm.
I still want to see Kristy and Jason face off in the end. The others just don't thrill me and I do NOT want to see Karina in the finals ... at least we agree about her.
funnygirl - April 30, 2008 08:24 PM (GMT)
I don't think we'll have anything to worry about as far as the finals go. I am really hoping that Kristy takes this because she's the best dancer by far this season.
chairo - May 3, 2008 02:16 PM (GMT)
I am going to disagree (surprise) I can't put Kristi in the category of a non dancer who became a good dancer. Kristi did it all and more on skates, she just had to learn to do it in heels, so her being the 'best' is a foregone conclusion. Jason, Shannon and even Marissa, have come a lot farther with no dance experience. If it comes down to Jason and Kristi then Jason should win, simply because of what the show is all about.
Just like the uproar this year on American Idol having too many previously pro singers, if DWTS brings in Paula Abdul and the likes of Kristi wins the comp then it has jumped the shark and is not what is was supposed to be, and I will be gone as a viewer.
funnygirl - May 5, 2008 02:24 PM (GMT)
You are giving dancers way too much credit. I take it you are not watching Step It Up and Dance and you've forgotten about a little show called "So You Think You can Dance". Even though some of the kids have had training in other areas, you give them hip-hop, ballroom, etc. and they fall flat. Being a figure skater may have given her a leg up, but that's like saying that somebody with natural musicality or dancing chops has a leg up.
Quit throwing Shannon in there as somebody who "grew" or excelled at this. She had one good week were Derek danced around her and she was wearing a long dress so you couldn't see how stiff her legs were. Nope, no way! :no
chairo - May 5, 2008 03:15 PM (GMT)
I stand by what I said ... SYTYCD, does not call itself an amateur dance show. Obviously many of the contestants have won numerous awards in their area of expertise. NO I do not watch Step it up. I am barely making it through the amateur dance contest with Kristi as the star dancer. I still believe Shannon improved. I still believe Marissa should have been voted out early, but has been given the opportunity to impove and I still believe Jason should walk away with the horrendous trophy.
chairo - May 6, 2008 11:43 AM (GMT)
An interesting show last night. Cristian takes top honors and the favorites Kristi and Jason drop a notch. Marissa ended up in the bottom with Mario following somewhere in between. For once I actually agreed with the judges. Both Kristi and Jason gave awesome perfomances during the ballroom dances. Mario gave a much improved performance and for once, Marissa didn't seem to be dancing, but more like being moved around the floor by her partner. Marissa should go home tonight.
In the first and second round Cristian was awesome. As was commented several times, maybe he should have done the whole season with one arms. Kudos to Cheryl for coreographing numbers that hid Cristian's injury. I enjoyed watching these dance more than any of the others.
Though I am not a Kristi fan, I did enjoy the ballroom number. However I was right on with the judges for the second. I kept thinking as I was watching her latin dance that something was missing. I just wasn't enjoying it and then it was over.
Mario did a better than expected with both dances but did feel once again something just wasn't kosher during the latin dance. I did enjoy the entertainment value but it didn't grab me as his ballroom dance did.
Niether dance was good for Marissa. It was back to seeing someone in a dance class that wasn't sure of herself and made many moves that to me looked out of character and just not part of the dance. She also seemed to be lost on serveral occasions, waiting for her partner to get her back on track.
I can't imagine Kristi, Jason or Mario leaving. It would be down to Marissa and Cristian and with the great performance Christian gave last night it should be Marissa.
I loved Jason's first dance and I honestly didn't see the things about his second that the judges picked apart, but in the second showing at the end I did see he kept his head down, but it wasn't as bad as the judges made it sound. I enjoyed watching his Latin dance but didn't see the passion from the ballroom dance.
funnygirl - May 6, 2008 03:46 PM (GMT)
I think the problem with Jason's second dance was the horrible music. I like when they use more current music or classics.
I loved Marissa and Tony's first dance of the night and think they were short-changed quite a bit.
I have to admit, I loved both of Christian's dances this evening. I think it helped immensely that Cheryl had to tone it down a bit and not throw herself around and all over her partner for once. She seems to go overboard with that in her choreography.
chairo - May 7, 2008 02:06 AM (GMT)
Good show. Love the favorites countdown. Was great to see Max and Mel B. Was not thrilled with the voting results.
funnygirl - May 7, 2008 02:10 PM (GMT)
I am totally thrilled with the results. I do think it was a result of the loathing of Karina than Mario or his dancing abilities that did him in. I absolutely adore Marissa and Tony together. I forgot how incredible he and Stacy Kiebler were together. I'm glad they showed their samba, but I thought her jive was their best dance.
Anybody else heard the rumors about Julianne and Apolo? IT cracks me up that because these two have a rather steamy dance that they are a couple. :laugh
It was great seeing some of the pros that have taken some time off. Ashley DelGrosso looks amazing. Motherhood has done wonders for her. It was great seeing some of our old favorites. I thought the judge's choice for the No. 1 song was wrong, but what the heck do I know. ;)
Mel & Max were on fire last night.
chairo - May 7, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
I have been hearing a lot about Julianne lately but none of it has anything to do with Apollo. I remember during the show they talked about how hard it was to do 'hot' numbers when they are just like brother and sister.
It was a little ackward watching Drew and Cheryl last night. Was that his wife in the audience pregnant AGAIN? I hope the rumors about Drew and Cheryl aren't true. It would really change my opinion of him, but they sure were hugging and holding on to each other last night.
