Title: Project Runway 4
jonnysbandit - November 20, 2007 05:47 PM (GMT)
I can't believe there is not thread for this! Am I the only "fashion head" in this place anymore??
jonnysbandit - November 20, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
OK well I guess it's up to me to bring some fashion in here! Remember Malan from Season 3? Here's his Spring 2008 Collection. Gorgeous!

Last week's winning dress...

And losing creation...
jonnysbandit - November 26, 2007 02:24 PM (GMT)
We were back to doing team projects last week (my favorite--NOT). Very interesting show. Here was the winning design...
from Victorya...

Losing design by Marion...

The main problem with Marion's dress was that the knit was too heavy and kept "growing"--stretching. I really thought Christian deserved to go more with this number and I think it was close between he and Marion. I hate that jacket--Christian is beginning to look like a one note designer already with that design on the jacket that was the same as last week basically.
funnygirl - November 27, 2007 04:39 PM (GMT)
I wasn't crazy about the winning design this week but I was ecstatic to see the fashion icon was SJP!!! I went to Steve & Barry's on Saturday and saw this "dress?" in person...meh! However, the rest of the "Bitten" line is absolutely fantastic and she is not kidding when she says her clothes fit every body. The jeans are only $9.98!!! I bought a pair fo rme and both my daughters and they are FANTASTIC!!
jonnysbandit - November 28, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah I wasn't crazy about the winning design either. I thought it looked better in "concept" than in actuality. It looked sloppy to me. I know I'm stuck in the '80's but I liked "in concept" the dress part of Christian's dress (if it hadn't been so skin tight it made that model even look fat!) but that jacket?! No way.
jonnysbandit - November 29, 2007 01:19 PM (GMT)
Last night's show would be my worst nightmare--make an outfit that will look good on camera for a MAN! OK so admittedly I can't really sew, in fact, the buttons I have to put back on are a little shaky, but still...
The assignment was to make an outfit that Tiki Barber could wear on the Today show. OK so the first thing I thought--with my experience in television--is NO pinstripes--at least the stripes need to be about an inch apart not to make the viewer's eyes cross. Well several did stripes anyway and most chose tasteful stripes that would not give you that jumpy-optical illusion that makes stripes look like they are fighting one another. It was a typical story of the good, the bad and DEFINITELY the ugly last night!
Winning design was Jack--I must say I wasn't impressed with the stripes but hey, that's just me. This challenge seemed to stump many and many garments were not complete or were held together with pins.
Winning Design

As I said there were MANY disasters last night but none worse than Carmen's--she didn't have time to build a shirt so she sent her model down the runway with a scarf wrapped around his neck and tucked into his pants to make it appear he had SOMETHING on! Oh and don't even get me started on the poor construction of the pants or the "Members Only" jacket look--which I never liked when it was "in" which is definitely not now!
Losing Design

Other "honorable mentions" for bad design were Sweet P. She knew her shirt was a disaster and she was embarassed to show it...
Sweet P's Design

and Ricky's disaster suit that was held together by big ugly safety pins! He was in bottom two--again and DEFINITELY dodged a bullet this week! In fact, Tiki said that suit looked like his 5 year old put it together. It was sloppy and unfinished.
Ricky's Design

Well that's about it in a nutshell guys. So far I'm not really hating anyone yet this season. But then again, it's early days still...
funnygirl - November 29, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
I like Jack, but not his pinstriped nightmare!! Actually, this was a ridiculous challenge and the results proved it. I hope they NEVER visit this idea again. Sweat P's shirt was disasterous, but at least the pants looked pretty good. I did like the male models. ;)
jonnysbandit - November 29, 2007 06:08 PM (GMT)
Yeah I thought Sweet P's pants probably saved her. I totally disagreed about that hideious jacket in--of all things--FLEECE! What were they thinking??? That was WAY too casual for TV.
jonnysbandit - December 6, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
More team competitions this week *sigh*
Winning collection...
Kevin? (I thought this was Rami and Kevin made the shorts but this is what Bravo's site says was Kevin's so...)

Jillian...

Rami...
jonnysbandit - December 6, 2007 03:21 PM (GMT)
Losing design team...
Sweet P (although the judges liked her dress they did not feel the collection was cohesive)

Steven's...

And Chris (Boo Hoo--as project mgr he was cut!)

I really think Victorya is showing her true colors--she's a control FREAK, and Ricky was in the bottom 2 AGAIN this week. How long can he last? Or... is this the producer's "top 3 edit?" I recall Jeffrey being in the bottom 2 early on last season too.
jonnysbandit - December 13, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
YAY Chris is back!!! Jack developed active MRSA infection in his lip and had to leave to seek aggressive treatment so they brought Chris March back. I can't say I LOVED his design this week, but I DO love HIM!
This week's challenge was to design a new outfit for women who had lost a significant amount of weight and the designers had to use their favorite old outfits (before the weight loss) to make the new from.
Winning design this week was Christian

Losing design Steven (the white was all he used from the before garment--a wedding dress!) Very FRUMPY
funnygirl - December 13, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
I think the right person went home. That dress was disgusting from top to bottom.
jonnysbandit - December 13, 2007 07:38 PM (GMT)
Well it just makes this poor lady look "frumpy!" She deserved a way better dress. I'm glad Steven is gone. He reminded me of that other oddball from last season (sorry I can't recall his name) who went home over the Cher fashion icon outfit that looked more like David Bowie's Space Oddity to me!
jonnysbandit - January 7, 2008 02:01 PM (GMT)
OK I'm REALLY late in posting this. Long story short--the designers were to be inspired by candy....
Winning design by Rami (again...)

Losing design by Elisa (finally!)
funnygirl - January 7, 2008 05:19 PM (GMT)
I agreed with their choice, but I thought Jillian was a split second behind Rami in this week's challenge. I thought her use of the food itself was creative and cool.
What the heck Elisa?! That was just awful. I think Sweetpea needs to get her stuff together too quickly. I'm glad they gave Chris a reprieve and Mr. Kors was kind enough to explain to Mr. Posen why he was giving him snaps. I loved his outfit too.
jonnysbandit - January 7, 2008 05:21 PM (GMT)
I liked Chris' design. I didn't "get" Rami's. It looked like a mess to me. Too much going on for me. What was up with Elissa's foil "floaties" on the arms?? :O
jonnysbandit - January 10, 2008 01:45 PM (GMT)
This week's challenge was to create prom dresses for high school girls. Felt sorry for Christian--his girl was WAY opinionated and wanted the impossible.
Winning designer--Victorya

Although I thought SweetP should have won! Her gown was sublime!

I also loved Chris' design (surprise!)

Losing design was Kevin's cheap looking gown that is the latest in frumpy prom-wear.

Also, just for fun... here was Christian's monstrosity!
jonnysbandit - January 17, 2008 04:33 PM (GMT)
Finally we got to see Chris March win one last night! I was SO happy for him.
Once again it was team competition. The challenge was to create an avante garde look inspired by their model's hairstyles . The look didn't have to be particularly wearable. The second part of the challenge--they found out a day later--was to create a look for ready-to-wear inspired by the avante garde look. I felt sorry for Sweet P. I SO wanted to see Rami go--he's so smug. Or I wanted to see that nasty Ricky Lizarde (does anyone else think he looks like a guy who would have bad breath?) would go. I'm sick of seeing him cry every week!
Anyway, here are the winning designs by Chris March and Christian...
Avante Garde look...

Ready to wear look...

Losers... Kit and Ricky
Avante Garde look...

Ready to wear...

I thought their Avante Garde look was more Beverly Hillbillies than high fashion! :giggle:
Kit is gone.
jonnysbandit - January 24, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
Last night's epi was a denim challenge to make a new iconic look out of Levi's jeans and jackets. I didn't agree with the winner. I thought Sweet P's was actually a better outfit. Ricky's gown looked like the buttons down the front were bulging. YUCK.
Anyway...
Winning designer, Ricky...

Although I thought Sweet P's fit better...

Victorya got auffed last night. Her outfit looked like a jean jacket that already existed with a skirt sewn on, and the denim didn't even match...
funnygirl - January 24, 2008 08:16 PM (GMT)
I thought Christian's was the most iconic looking of all the outfits last night. He got robbed, but that's how karma works!
jonnysbandit - January 24, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
I liked Christian's (even thought he IS an arrogant little snot) but let's face it--not many people can wear that look. I think the reason Ricky won is because Levi's thought they could "mass produce" the look.
funnygirl - January 31, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
I would feel much more comfy in Christian's outfit than Ricky's. Then again I'm a 40 year old woman. :giggle:
jonnysbandit - February 7, 2008 02:13 PM (GMT)
Finally it returned last night!
The challenge this week was to design an outfit for one of the WWE's lady wrestlers. Interesting...
Finally my beloved Chris won a challenge!!! YAY!!!

And finally that horrible Ricky is gone! YAY

Ricky's outfit looked more like a swimsuit than anything else. I was so happy for Chris. The only other challenge he has won was the one with Christian. Sweet P was on the chopping block too but squeaked through thankfully. I think personally thought Rami deserved to go with this pink nightmare...
funnygirl - February 8, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
The right person went this week based on design alone. Although I'm not a big fan of the pink monstrosity at least his client liked it and it was somewhat indicative of her "character".
jonnysbandit - February 8, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
I honestly don't know how Ricky stayed so long anyway. All of his clothes looked like trash to me, culminating with that orange bathing-suit-thing.
TV4me - February 8, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
Christian is definitely my fav to win. His avant garde dress was breathtaking.
funnygirl - February 10, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
Yes, but was it his or Chris' or a great collaboration of two minds? I like Jillian's designs too. Apparently, Jillian used to work with Ralph Lauren. I guess that explains her obsession with coats. :giggle: All of the designers this season have quite a resume'. I like Christian too and I see Sweet Pea being the last to go.
jonnysbandit - February 10, 2008 10:59 PM (GMT)
Yeah but I get sick of Christian saying "Fierce" every 10 words. That' SO last year!
TV4me - February 11, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
I was too sure with Sweet P at first..but she really has proved herself too me. dont know. This season has been a rollercoaster.
jonnysbandit - February 14, 2008 01:34 PM (GMT)
Poor Sweet P! The only one not to at least have a chance to move on to Bryant Park.
Why do the judges keep telling Chris that his designs are too "costumy" when Christian designed this? Costumy AND looks like every other shirt he's made this season--poof sleeve, lots of pleating, cinched waist and flaired at the hip... Hmmmmm, he's starting to sound like a one trick pony.
Having said that, he won the "inspired by art" challenge last night...

Also moving on...
Jillian

and with a chance to move on... Chris

and Rami (with a *gasp* "draped" dress!)

Poor Sweet P. Her "peacock inspired" gown did not wow the judges.
funnygirl - February 14, 2008 03:51 PM (GMT)
I haven't watched yet, but Sweet Pea's was definitely the worst!! I like Chris' the best...
jonnysbandit - February 14, 2008 05:22 PM (GMT)
Me too! Nina Garcia and Michael Koors kept going on about how we've "seen this dress before" about Chris's design and the guest judge liked it the BEST. I was glad. After all the Rami "draping" all season for them to complain about two dresses that Chris designed that were SIMILAR was ridiculous. BTW, how was Chris' design more "costumy" than Christian's?
funnygirl - February 15, 2008 03:56 PM (GMT)
Finally watched the epi and here are my thoughts. Christian's outfit won because it covered all criteria and I think he had the best "runway" look. I agreed with Mr. Cavali when he said Chris' was a work of art. I have no idea why they gave Rami a second chance. I find that these judges, like Tyra in ANTM, get a little redundant and hypocritical by the fourth season.
I have to say I agreed with Rami's argument about his interpretation of the assignment. They did not say anything about "runway" they said to interpret the art work as inspiration for design. I still think Sweet Pea's interpretation was more artistic than Rami's.
jonnysbandit - February 15, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
It almost seemed like they set Rami up for another "draped" gown. I mean did they really think he would choose something different given the choice to drape or not-to-drape.
BTW, have you checked out their collections at Fashion Week? they are posted at the Bravotv.com site. Go look at Christian's and tell me I'm not right about the shirts all looking very similar...
funnygirl - February 15, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
funnygirl - February 15, 2008 06:34 PM (GMT)
Okay, after reviewing the collections, my very brief opinion (because the pics do not do the justice that seeing the live runway show does), I have to say my favorite collection is RAMI!!! :O
I agree about Christian's collection but Jillian's is even worse. I absolutely LOVE the fabric that Chris used, but I think he played it a little too safe. The last few dresses of Rami's made my jaw hit the floor. I'm sure he won't win because I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. They will probably give it to Jillian. :rolleyes Don't get me wrong, I like her designs, but I feel like I've seen every design she sent down the runway already.
jonnysbandit - February 15, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
Yeah I'm thinking Jillian too only because I know Posh Spice was one of the final judges at Fashion Week and her comment was that there was a CLEAR WINNER in her mind and that she would wear ALL of the dresses. So I'm looking at the collections trying to figure whose clothing she would wear. Not Chris' because they are a little too age appropriate for her, not Rami's because they aren't short and tight enough, MAYBE Christian's but I think Jillians. We'll see.
jonnysbandit - February 28, 2008 01:24 PM (GMT)
Boo hoo--Chris got cut just before final 3. I liked his dresses but I wasn't surprised they picked Rami over Chris. It has been clear to me from the beginning that Rami was the "annointed one" this year and could do no wrong.
Here are Chris' dresses. The second was embellished with human hair--which I think is what really got him cut. I personally thought it was a creative way to embellish without using fur--God knows you can't do THAT anymore! :suspicious

hair dress...

Rami's mess, er, I mean DRESS

Another of Rami's creations
funnygirl - February 28, 2008 08:22 PM (GMT)
Okay, admittedly, I have not seen this epi yet. I will watch tonight. However, I saw the final collections and I must say Rami's totally kicked butt!! Chris' were just okay. I'll come back tomorrow with more opinion once I see the show.
