Title: Dancing with the Stars
Description: Samba and the Rumba

chairo - October 23, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
Eight couples remain and tonight they will dance either the Samba or the Rumba.
First up are Marie and Jonathan dancing the Samba. Jonathan was able to join Marie at one of her concerts in Niagara Falls this past week where the continued to practice in between her performances. Marie is determined to get top scores this week. She believes this is her dance.
Unfortunately we will never know what the judges thought about her performance. It started out sounding like Len was going to have something good to say but suddenly Marie fell unconscious to the floor. Naturally we were sent to commercial …. a loooooooong commercial.

When we returned Tom announced that Marie was fine, she had just passed out. Her first words when she awoke were “OH Crap!” In my opinion, the dance was not one of the best but it was not one of the worst either. I was a little disappointed in how wooden Marie seemed tonight. She does some things very well and others as if she were in dance school practicing. Over all however I liked the performance and would have given her an 8.

Going to do this a little different when all the judges give the same score. Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno all gave Marie and Jonathan 7’s for 21/30 which I feel was too low. (Note: for the remainder of the show, after receiving her scores, Marie was required by the producers to rest in her trailer until all the couples return on stage at the end of the show … this incident may lead one to wonder if it contributed to what was not one of Marie’s best performances)

Jane and Tony are up next and they will take on the Rumba. It was mentioned that last week Carrie Ann believes Jane lifted her foot and continues to nod her head when this is mentioned. Jane on the other hand continues to shake her head in the negative. I do believe she may have made a minor enemy of Carrie Ann.

For this dance Jane is wearing a very very slinky red dress, uncharacteristic of the image she claims she wants to portray but she looked very hot and for her age she could have given any of the younger women a run for their money in the body department. The judges even mentioned that she looked like Edyta tonight.

Also, something you’d expect more from Mark, Jane is singing along to the music. But the dance itself is amazing. It blows me away someone her age can do the leg lifts and extensions that appear to be very easy for her. One thing I do find lacking is the chemistry between Jane and Tony. It comes and goes and I think in my humble opinion it’s because they already think they are so hot and at times just counting on their look to win the competition. I give them an 8

Bruno thinks Jane is hot and steamy but never trashy. He loved it. He tells her she looked like Edyta tonight, as does Carrie Ann, who also says Jane’s body is amazing. Her negative comment to Jane was that she has a problem spotting her turns, but it was still great. Len doesn’t mention the Edyta look a like but says she is classy and has beautiful arms and the dance was well done.

Jane and Tony get an 8 from Carrie Ann but 9’s from both Bruno and Len for 26/30.

Even though the next contestant is not a judge favorite, the fans have kept him in the competition. Mark and Kym want to redeem themselves this week in the judge’s eyes but Mark thinks they need to win over the fans even more. He wants to go out and have fun and really entertain the audience.

That they did! Kym was dressed like Jeanie and they danced to “I Dream of Jeanie” theme song. Mark said people consider him a nerd so he decided to look and dance like a nerd. He arrived on stage in nerdy black glasses, but Kym’s magic blink got him dancing and then tossing away the glasses. Admittedly Mark is not a good technical dancers but I love his passion and his dedication to learning what Kym is teaching.

Mark is not in the same class as many of the other contestants and his dancing is not all that smooth, but later in the evening the judges comment on another contestant looking like they are in dance school … Mark DID NOT look like that. He does his thing and doesn’t pay a lot of attention to the technical aspects of the dance, but he does entertain and he has fun. I give him a 7.

Carrie Ann like the dance and felt he really entertained them. She did mention his need to work on technique. Len commented that it was entertaining but Mark needs to learn to point his feet out. Mark mentioned that due to his hip surgery he can’t do that and Len really jumped on that and mentioned Heather Mills, who just happened to be in the audience. (Of course it hadn’t been 7 weeks for Heather’s new leg when she tried to dance as it is with Mark’s hip replacement) Bruno said this was Mark’s best dance ever but he will never be Fred Astaine.
All three judges gave Mark and Kym 7’s for a total of 21/30

Mark and Sabrina will be dancing the Rumba to “Me and Mrs. Jones” and they were spectacular. During rehearsal, Mark’s mom came in to give Sabrina some pointers as to how to do this romantic dance with her son. Sabrina was freaked out at first but quickly came to appreciate the pointers. During the performance the chemistry between the two was dynamite. I was enthralled and loved every minute of it. There was one spot where it looked like something didn’t go as smoothly as it should have but over all they get a 10 from me.

Len said it was a great performance but thought some of the poses were over the top. Bruno said the musicality was superb and he loved it. Carrie Ann said it was gorgeous but she needs to work on some of her turns. The couple receive 9’s from Carrie Ann and Len and a 10 from Bruno for 28/30

Jenny the comeback kid and her partner Derek drew the Samba and Derek took her to learn how to shake her thing. She learned pretty well at the time but I didn’t see evidence during the dance of any more shaking her booty than she has in the past. There were times when the dance looked mechanical to me, but I enjoyed it. Jennie just really seems less free with her movements than some of the others. Too much concentration on the footwork or booty work or something. To me this looked more like learning in a dance class. But not so bad that I wouldn’t give them an 8.

Bruno seems to agree with me. He says that Samba has a lot of content but their performance seemed almost like a ‘how to dance the samba’ routine rather than a performance of the dance. He also felt she started well and then died out towards the end. Carrie Ann say she stumbled but appreciated Jennie being more sexy in her performance tonight. Len is in disagreement and feels it was much better than the other judges comments would lead one to believe.

CarrieAnn and Bruno both give Jennie 8’s and Len gave her a 9 for a total of 25/30

Helio spent most of his rehearsal time trying to remember to keep the smile off his face during the dance. Well he did that very well during his performance with partner Julianne but he replaced it with one that looked like he was in pain rather than one that looked like in was in ‘lust’ with the beautiful woman he was dancing with. For me this looked like another how to dance rather than an actual dance. I didn’t enjoy it much and give them a 7.

Carrie Ann felt Helio was too focused and the chemistry between the partners was lacking. She also felt the lines were lacking and awkward and Len agreed with her. He says he sees more romance at his dentist’s office. Bruno also agrees and said Helio looked like he was in pain.

Carrie Ann and Bruno give them 8’s and Len gives them a 7 for 23/30

Emerging from the bottom two last week by the skin of their teeth this week Maks and Mel are going to try to bring things back together with the Samba. It didn’t start out looking well for them as Mel as sick and Maks was wearing a mask to keep from sharing her germs. Maks was getting upset at Mel and at one time walked out. Then there was a trip to meet the other Spice Girls and things seemed to improve. However, Maks did get the sickness Mel was carrying around and he was not happy about it.

Well the dance was awesome. Ill or not both of them danced their butts off and the chemistry was definitely there in spades. I would call this the best Samba of the night. I give them a 10.

Len says it’s fantastic and Bruno says it was the best Samba of the night. Carry Ann agrees and says it was her favorite dance of their todate.

Carrie Ann and Bruno give them 10’s and Len gives them a 9 for a total of 29/20

Cameron and Edyta are the final dancers of the evening and they are trying hard to come up with ideas that will trump or at least equal the Superman routine of last week. During the performance the chemistry between these two is sizzling. They are on fire. Unfortunately they will lose points because Edyta’s foot did come off the ground during one of the turns, and Carrie Ann of course noticed.

Bruno says there was incredible passion and Cameron continues to improve. Carrie Ann also appreciated the chemistry but didn’t like the lifted foot. Len says Cameron broke through last week and this was a great week for him too.

Carrie Ann gives them an 8 while both Len and Bruno give them 9’s for a total of 26/20

The leader board at the end of the night:
Mel and Maks -- 29
Sabrina and Mark – 28
Cameron and Eydta – 26
Jane and Tony – 26
Jennie and Derek – 25
Helio and Julianne – 23
Marie and Jonathan – 21
Mark and Kym – 21

I don’t see Marie going home this week so unless the fans vote strong it will probably be Mark.

I don't see Mark going just yet either. I see a bottom two of Helio and Jennie. Mark is one of my favorites because he is so dedicated in all aspects of this process. He may have two left feet, but I really do think he's entertaining and always give him a vote for the effort.

I think the judges might have told Marie that she was not as shiney has she normally is on the dance floor. I'm not sure if it was the choreographer or the loss of sparkle on Marie's part, but I agreed with their scores.

I also agreed with Helio's scores and the comments. IT all looked too choreographed. :S
