Title: America's Next Top Model

Liss - August 27, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
speaking of me being pathetic. I seem to have picked up a habit for AMNTM thanks to MTV. I've seen all of cycle 6. Part of Cycle 5, part of cycle 7 and part of cycle 8. Cast pics are out for upcoming cycle 9.

someone smack me.

jonnysbandit - August 27, 2007 09:02 PM (GMT)
I think this is usually has it's own thread with the big shows like Survivor, TAR, etc... but I'm not sure since I don't watch this, but I'm pretty sure when it starts it will have it's own "big" thread.

Correct me if I'm wrong admins...

ErnMalley - August 28, 2007 12:03 AM (GMT)
Liss, I've never felt closer to you than I do now. I love ANTM and thank goodness I don't have cable or I'd never go to work.

funnygirl - August 28, 2007 03:11 AM (GMT)
Dflem is an ANTM guru :laugh abd absolutely adores the show and refuses to recap because dflem truly feels no justice can be done to a show of this magnitude. :D I'm with you Ern. See ya in a few weeks when the next cycle starts!!

dfleminator - August 28, 2007 03:18 AM (GMT)
Dflem doesn't even get The CW, and never knows (or cares) when the show starts.

Dflem no longer comments on ANTM because Dflem accidentally chased members out due to his disgust for the show.

funnygirl - August 28, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
He's kidding of course. He has a hard time containing himself. Until they come up for a self-help group, he'll stay in denial and we'll just pretend right along with him. :D

jlyl - August 28, 2007 04:22 AM (GMT)
I'm an ANTM fan and I'm proud! Bring on the next group of crazy girls thirstiy for fashion fame!

kira_butterfly - August 28, 2007 01:46 PM (GMT)
I am too a lover of ANTM...are the pics up on their website?

ErnMalley - August 28, 2007 02:17 PM (GMT)
Dflem can go play in the Den then while Ern watches ANTM and practices her catwalk :P

I love the Tyrant, she's hysterical. I still have the article that popped up in RADAR comparing her to a cult leader, and yes, all the tactics do mesh. She cuts them down to build them up in her image. It's an awesome sociological/theological specimen of a show.

jlyl - August 28, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
OMG - the episode each cycle where Tyra goes into the apartment in like a cute tracksuit or something and sits down for a little chat session is always one of the moments that cracks me up the most!

jlyl - August 28, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
Oh, and here's the link to the girls of cycle 9:

http://www.cwtv.com/shows/americas-next-top-model09/cast

ErnMalley - August 28, 2007 03:19 PM (GMT)
Just from that little link I like Lisa. . .

Liss - August 28, 2007 06:31 PM (GMT)
*Liss wonders if ern has started watching the tyra banks show - lol

I finally put a digital converter on the tv in the bedroom and now get oxygen back there. They did a great show on dressing your shape with designer Bradley Bayou ( I think that was his name) but all i could focus on was Tyra's dead center part and how BLONDE her hair looked.

ErnMalley - August 28, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the reminder Liss!

http://tyrashow.warnerbros.com/tickets/

I registered for tickets, and sent her a letter as well! She frightens me, lol, but that's what makes it fun!

jlyl - August 28, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
I like Lisa too, but we'll have to see if she can get past being a dancer, which has proved difficult for girls in the past. I also like Kimberly.

Liss - August 28, 2007 10:35 PM (GMT)
FYI - MTV is showing a buncha eppies in a row (prolly over the next set of consecutive tuesdays) of what looks like cycle 7

Liss - August 29, 2007 03:35 PM (GMT)
2 repeat eppys for ANTM from cycle 8 (previous season) are on CW tonight.

ErnMalley - September 20, 2007 03:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah! It started! It started! I still like Lisa best :) I don't care if she's a ""dancer""

funnygirl - September 20, 2007 04:05 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but exotic dancer and classically trained dancer are two different things. :laugh

Liss - September 20, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
I love that she gave a lap dance. oh my on janet the bikini waxer. I think I'm rooting for Heather - the girl with Aspegers.

jlyl - September 21, 2007 05:19 AM (GMT)
Okay, when I made my previous comment, I didn't realize that Lisa was an "exotic" dancer (I wear a bikini! I'm not topless! I'm not naked!) That adds some excitement. I still like her, and I also like the girl that looks like the twins from last season.

kira_butterfly - September 21, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
I'd have to say my front runners so far are Janet and that blonde...don't know what her name is...

girlchefj - September 27, 2007 04:58 AM (GMT)
How sad that the forum for ANTM doesn't have its own board anymore.

So what's Brandy's problem? Why's she picking fights with everybody? Maybe she'll turn out to the the house bitch rather than Ebony. There must have been something edited out, because the way she just went after Lisa in tonight's episode made no sense.

Also, it's very sad that the girls treat Heather the way they do. Again, maybe there's something edited out, but it looks like she is just being quiet and keeping to herself, when they all start talking about her (is that within her earshot on top of it?) and saying she's weird. And that one girl (I completely forget her name) made herself look so ignorant when she said that she wouldn't talk to Heather because "people like that attach themselves to you." Um, her problem is that she has trouble "attaching herself" to people and forming relationships with them. I wanted to come through the TV and ask her how she became such an expert on psychological disorders, then slap her smart.

Liss - September 27, 2007 05:26 PM (GMT)
You sorta had to know the signs of aspigers to pick up on some of what Heather was doing. I agree that the edit prolly didn't give full coverage of Heather's behavior. But you could tell most of the other girls thought that aspergers meant deaf and/or stupid.

Didn't get the blow up and they obviously left stuff out.

Mila bugged me and I didn't think she was particularly 'pretty'

girlchefj - September 27, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
Even so, they all know she has the disorder (how could they not? It is mentioned in the show every five minutes), but instead of leaving it at that, they keep saying she's weird. She's not weird, she has a disorder, and knowing that about someone and continuing to call them weird is ignorant.

Also, I thought Mila was pretty in a quirky Thora Birch kind of way, but speaking of social disorders ... it was like she had one that was the opposite of Heather's. In her initial interview she talked about how she's always happy and celebrates everything, even a new nail polish, and nothing bad has happened to her. The she does this disturbing photo shoot, and her only reaction to it is to laugh uncontrollably because she looked ridiculous. (Never mind that sometimes people with serious illnesses really do look like that without makeup.)
Then when she got kicked off, she was still saying that bad things go away if you ignore them. Optimism obviously is a good thing--I know I could use a little more of it myself--but on this level seems almost pathological. It makes me wonder if something terrible did happent o her, and this is her way of pushing it away. That kickoff was a good call. I don't think they ever would have gotten through to her.

funnygirl - September 27, 2007 09:19 PM (GMT)
I thought Tyra handled the eliminations wonderfully. Calling out Ebony about her behavior at teh shoot and what she told Mr. Jay. (About the other girls not liking her), responding to Nigel's question about Heather's "behavior" with a lot of class.

Heather is from where I live now. :D No, I have no idea who she is, but it's kind of cool seeing her town displayed.

I too was very disappointed with the girl's behavior toward Heather. However, they are locked in this house with no real source of stimulation. I think picking on the weak to help pass the time is dead wrong, but all of these girls are young!

cheernmama - September 28, 2007 10:06 AM (GMT)
WARNING: I AM IN "MAMA BEAR" PROTECTIVE MODE...

I have to say I am still really tenative about Heather being on the show. I work with young children and some of the children I have worked with have had Asbergers. I just worry that she is being pushed to a place that is not safe or healthy for her for the sake a her being a role model or for the sake of "good" reality tv. I am getting really annoyed with how childish and rude some of the other girls are to her :angry and I truly hope that her look of sadness and that Heather is overhearing all of their conversations is perceived because of editting.

On other note, I am really pleased about the no smoking stance that the show has taken this year. I am a proud "quitter" as is my husband! We did it cold turkey but at different times.

kira_butterfly - September 28, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
Well all I have to say is stay away from that girl with the red/black hair...she is CRAZY!!! I think that I like Lisa a little more now, but I really do still like Chantal and Janet...do we know when the makeovers are?

funnygirl - September 28, 2007 02:25 PM (GMT)
Cheermama, I understand what you are saying, but why shouldn't she be on this show? She's an adult, knows what her limitations are and she signed up for the show. Asbergers is a handicap only if the person who is stricken with it allows it to be. I don't think anybody is taking advantage of her on this show, I'm sure there was a lot of talk before she was selected and I would bet the ranch that Tyra did some serious research.

I think the only people at risk here are the other models who are going to look stupid and shallow by continuing to display their ignorance and and childeshness.

girlchefj - September 28, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
I agree with funnygirl. Heather voluntarily signed up for this show and knew what she was getting into. She knew it was going to be hard for her--she has seen this show in the past, and she knows about her troubles caused by her condition. I thought we understood that segregating the disabled from the rest of society and telling them, "It's not good for you to do what others do because you're handicapped," is detrimental to them.

funnygirl - I absolutely agree with you. I think she should absolutely have an opportunity - I just hope that she isn't being exploited. Sometimes when I go into "mama bear" mode I start getting overprotective and I think in worst case scenerios.

girlchefj - I think we are on the same page - I disagree with segregating people with disablilties from the main-stream... but I hope she is being offered some support to deal with these challenges.

QuestionReality - September 28, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
Thank God for TIVO. I'm a "reality tv" junky, so can record it ALL -- "ANTM," "BB8," "Survivor," "I Want to be a Soap Star," "Treasure Island Australia/NZ," "Kid Nation," "Amazing Race," "Lost" (which seems to have had one season only), etc., etc.

BTW, MTV has been showing past seasons of ANTM for some time now. I'm such a "reality" junky, I'll even record partial season reruns. Probably seen most of them by now.

I really didn't understand Bianca's (not Brandy) continuous attacks on Lisa, either. Her true personality was revealed when, in the pool, she admitted (in voice over, not to Lisa's face) she was only apologizing to Lisa so she wouldn't be called out during the Judges' Panel.

Poor Ebony -- who everybody reported to Tyra as not likable -- tried to compensate for her misunderstood "arrogant" attitude and went too far the other way. Hopefully she'll strike a happy medium. She sure is a pretty girl.

I felt so sorry for Heather overhearing the catty, bitchy, insensitive remarks being made by some of the other girls while grouped on the bed. IMHO, the girls who continue to rag on Heather (knowing she has a disability) are more than catty and bitchy, they are displaying a real insensitivity. Wonder how they'd feel if they were in Heather's position? Hope mama's phone counseling can help Heather get through this.

ErnMalley - October 1, 2007 07:01 PM (GMT)
Thank goodness for Sunday repeats!

I also didn't like how the other girls picked on Heather, Heather and Lisa were my faves this week. I think the Yale chica has a Haylie Duff long face, but worked in the shoot. Lisa just looked like old hollywood perfection in her shot!

I love that Tyra called Heather first, and that they are taking a no-smoking stance. I cringed at Old Navy though - a non-slave labour stance would be great in the fashion industry! IT could rock the world, but alas, it's about the bottom line.

girlchefj - October 4, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
I no longer think that something happened off camera to cause last week's tension between Lisa and Bianca. It looks like Bianca just randomly targets people to attack. And she likes to sabotage the other girls if she can. My take is that she is so insecure and threatened by everyone else that she has to attack those whom she feels are better than her. It so served her right to be in the bottom two of all the girls she attacked, both to their faces and behind their backs. Though I was hoping she'd get voted off. She's not even the entertaining troublemaker that every reality show seems to have to have. She's just an unsympathetic mean girl with a pathetic, scared little child inside. Sad really.

cheernmama - October 4, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
I was semi-shocked when Bianca said that she would start cutting girl's clothing if that's what it took for her to win. Wonder what Tyra would be saying if she knew...

funnygirl - October 5, 2007 05:37 PM (GMT)
I think they can tell by the girl's reactions and some of the comments from the coaches (Mr. and Ms. Jay) that Tyra gets about the girls is all the info she needs. It's pretty obviuos that's why Heather got the first photo last week. That's also why Ebony got a verbal warning about stepping it up. ;)

I really liked this week's photo shoot.

cheernmama - October 11, 2007 12:10 PM (GMT)
Last night was make-over day. Though I was less that thrilled with the screen Tyra used to show their transformations, I really like some of the make-overs. I may be the only one who thinks it but I think that Bianca looks so much better bald that with the blonde wig! And, I am not feeling Saleisha's make-over. She looks like Tootie on Facts of Life. Don't get me wrong - I loved that show - I just think the cut is more 80's than high fashion.

QuestionReality - October 11, 2007 04:02 PM (GMT)
Hey, Cheernmama, I (like you) really liked Bianca's short, short cut. Up to this point, I wasn't really feeling it for Bianca and her nasty attitude with some of the other girls. However, last night, I was actually feeling some sympathy for the girl when she stated her mother had told her women who cut their hair off were ugly. Getting rid of that red/black mess was the best thing she could have done. Like you, I think the wig was pretty awful. I love the new short look (somehow it really softens her face). And, like you, I am so glad the actual hair styles came out looking much better than that crappy software program made the styles look.

funnygirl - October 11, 2007 04:09 PM (GMT)
I love makeover day. I, like the Ken Paves, was waiting for all the tears. :laugh I think what they did to Lisa was a travesty. Was it just me or did the cut make her face look older? The bags under her eyes were really visible. I'm glad that Yale is gone. She just couldn't pull off the smug, smarter than thou attitude like Elyse from Cycle 1. :D

ErnMalley - October 11, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
Okay, now I can't wait for the repeat. I LOVE makeover time. Oh, and bald is beautiful, let me tell you. I've met a few bald women that just looked awesome, makes me want to do it. In fact, my neighbor is on her 4th round of chemo and looks great. We need more bald women :)

(yes, I've debated it myself, always say when I lose my weight I'm going bald and getting a tattoo :) )
