Here's the place to discuss tonight's episode of Hell's Kitchen

Ok, maybe Julia won't win this season... but she'll win in another season

Rock annoys me even more now... such an ass.

chairo - July 24, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
I was totally annoyed by Jen. I think she deliberately baited Rock and though I didn't think his responses were appropriate in the kitchen I sure don't blame him for going off on her

All I can say is please please please do not let Bonnie win this thing

yellowjacket10 - July 24, 2007 03:28 AM (GMT)
I guess I'm hoping for Jen now, although I really wanted Julia to win. I'm a high school teacher, and I want to know what schools have Kobe beef, salmon, and goat cheese in the pantry. We get frozen chicken patties and french fries. Julia is the only one who cooked "kid" food. I'm really sorry she is gone.

jonnysbandit - July 24, 2007 11:58 AM (GMT)
Chairo--TOTALLY agree about Jen! I wanted to smack her last night. Rock shouldn't let that stuff get under his skin (but I KNOW it's difficult not to--believe me!) but Jen is just a real "B". :angry

I hate to say "I told you so" about Julia but Ramsay's rationale for booting her was EXACTLY what I said yesterday. OK so maybe I don't HATE to say so... :giggle:

I thought it was amazing that Gordon is going to send her to culinary school. She really does have potential. I'm so glad she won the challenge and got to experience everything. I think she had more "heart" than anyone else. She will be a great chef.

I don't know about these other three. I think Gordon really likes Bonnie. I don't know why but I just feel it when he's talking to her. Even when he gets on to her about something.

dfleminator - July 24, 2007 01:51 PM (GMT)
Julia will still win... just not this year.

I was just ahead of my time...

:giggle:

Lpatrick I do believe Ramsay likes Bonnie, but if you think back there has been one every season who flirts with him and appears to stay way beyond when they should have gone, but they have never won the restaurant .... hope it's the same with Bonnie.

Dflem ... on this one I agree. Julia will one day make a great Chef ... let's just hope she doesn't develope a Chef's attitude

I can't help thinking of Bonnie when I hear the joke, "Why do blonds need shoulder pads?" Her nerves often seem completely frazzled. The looks of absolute terror she gets on her face are almost childlike and cute. I cannot help but feel that she doesn't have a clue how to run a restaurant. I guess Ramsay never found out about the monkfish episode, did he? I look forward to what she does next week, being apparently in charge of the serving station.

On the other hand, I am not sure who appears more troubled between Bonnie and Jen: Bonnie seems to wear her emotions on her sleeve and appears constantly very needy while Jen is able to keep her emotions in check by keeping to herself. When she doesn't, watch out! Personally, I tend to think Jen would break down completely under the strain of being in charge of an entire kitchen.

Rock, as I have intimated, is well named because of the persona he has adopted. He seems fine with giving orders but doesn't seem to be a team player insofar as taking orders is concerned, except from someone designated as his superior. One of the things he said last week didn't ring true: he said something about not wanting to make himself look good at the expense of someone else. The difficulty I have with that statement is that he may WANT that to be true, but he hasn't acted as if that were true in the kitchen. Of course, I am open to examples of why I may be incorrect. Ultimately, I don't think any of the three are even moderately good communicators, for different reasons. They have all achieved, unfortunately, as Chairo said, "chefs' attitudes." In this vein Ramsay is a lousy teacher, but it makes for good television.

Lastly, I looked up the Red Rock resort in Las Vegas. http://www.redrocklasvegas.com/dining/terra_rossa.php
You may see for yourself that Heather, the last winner is NOT the executive chef but the senior chef under another executive chef. This brings into question what, in fact, they have been promised as I thought it was an executive chef position. In addition, while looking at the different "specialty" restaurants, I tend to think that Julia might have done well at a few of them. I still think Eddie was sabotaged.

I think Rock has shown that his temper flareups are a problem: First the day-long tantrum he threw when the women's team won the leftovers challenge, then his sniping back and forth with Jen (though neither of them seemed adult enough to let it go until service was over). There's a difference between a chef like Ramsey who is tough, and a chef who just throws tantrums when he doesn;t get his way.
Also, now I am really lost as to what Bonnie's job is. OK, so she's a nanny and personal chef. But she told us earlier that when she cooks, sometimes she is late and it's OK because it's only four people and they know her. I know a number of personal chefs, and it's not OK when their food is late, even for families they work for regularly. Especially for those families. Then she tells us that she doesn't clean, fold or iron in her nanny duties, because she is a chef. Hmmmm. Maybe she just plays Red Light/Green Light with them. Or she is the unofficial babysitter of some of her relatives who let her live there rent-free while she finds herself. Who knows, but she seems completely unqualified for whatever job she claims to have.

jonnysbandit - July 26, 2007 01:46 PM (GMT)
Gee I honestly don't see Rock's temper being that big a deal. But then again, I worked in broadcasting for years and I have been known to have a few tantrums myself... :giggle:

chairo - July 26, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
JB, nice to hear that .. I too work in the broadcasting industry (TV and production,) and I thought I was the only one who ever threw tantrums.
And I agree, with everything going on in HK and the pressure they are under, and GORDON RAMSAY ... I am surprised everyone hasn't had a tantrum of two.

jlyl - July 27, 2007 09:49 PM (GMT)
I think that Rock's temper is unforgivable. You just don't act like that at work. There's "throwing a temper tantrum" and then there's throwing things, sabotaging others, and using profanity. I just can't get past it.
