Title: ART Talk - 6/18
dfleminator - June 19, 2007 01:53 AM (GMT)
Talk about tonight's show right here!
jonnysbandit - June 19, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)
OK, did I miss it or did they ever say what Aaron was "ill" with? :confused
Not at all sorry to see Joanna go. She made more stupid mistakes in the kitchen than anyone I've seen so far, however, I would have booted Jen also. Taking food out of the trash to re-cook?!?! Remind me NEVER to eat in her restaurant. Ay yi YI!
chairo - June 19, 2007 12:14 PM (GMT)
No, Aaron's illness was not disclosed. Maybe at the final they will tell us. I agree about Jen. I'd have booted her also. I have heard horror stories about restaurants taking things from the trash or off the floor or even stuff left on plates from previous diners but I never really thought it was true. Now to have witnessed it, and this from a woman wanting to run a fine dining restaurant, it makes me question whether or not I really want to dine out ever again.
Can you imagine if a GOOD restaurant would or could do this just what can we expect from fast food joints? It makes me shudder to think about it.

This post is from our newest member Bentley, he PM'd me instead of hitting the add reply button and I told him/her I'd enter it here.
I agree that Aaron's disease sounded like diabetes. His zone outs looked like what happens when someone's blood sugar goes awry and stress definitely causes changes with that along with poor eating habits.
In any case, I have no idea why Ramsey let Eddie go, especially in deference to Aaron. I think Aaron, working in an old people's home, was probably used to far less stress. In addition, he himself said that he only knew how to cook Chinese dishes. He didn't seem to be able to adapt. Eddie on the other hand seemed competent but a little bewildered at all of the tension. You can watch a cook's moves and realize whether he has what it takes and I think that Eddie, despite being unable to express himself in words all that well, was a good cook. A good chef SHOULD be a trifle arrogant.
Julia, on the women's side, seems like the only competent cook there. Who cares if she can't do creme brulee? Bonnie seems to be depending on her loveliness. At least Julia isn't serving rancid crab or pulling spaghetti out of the trash! Gunning for Julia because she is a short order cook is not going to help the women's cause or results. lastly, just how hard is it to determine whether a scallop is cooked or not?
Only Rock seems to be reasonably competent on the men's side, although Brad seems to have some idea of what's going on. Josh seems to be almost incompetent and he has a terrible time working with others apparently. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that it was he who screwed up Eddie's spaghetti.

Overall, these cooks are the worst ones of all the Hell's Kitchen seasons. I agree with Bentley that only Julia and Rock seem competent. I am sorry that they are making the whole industry look bad. Food out of the garbage. No.
And how did Joanna miss the rancid crab? I don't know if you've ever smelled rancid crab, but that smell travels all over the kitchen and stays in your nose from the second the container is opened. She had to know that it was bad and just tried to get it past Chef Ramsey (good luck with that). Besides, I saw her lick her tongs! I thought I had hallucinated it, but my husband said, "Did she just...lick her TONGS?!!!"
Nowhere that I have worked have cooks or chefs had such nasty habits--at least, not those who kept their jobs. I hate that this example is being shown to the public. It would make me nervous about restaurant food too.

If you remember the ones last year didn't start out well either. However I too think Julia and Rock are the front runners. Of course I don't think I'd write Vinnie off yet. Even though I don't like Melissa because of her arrogance and looking down at others, I really haven't seen her get much face time from Gordon Ramsay. Maybe she is just biding her time.

Hi! I'm new, but I've been reading your posts since Big Brother last summer! I work evenings so I miss alot of episodes, and I don't have a TVO!
Anyway, I wanted to comment on the licking of the tongs. I worked at a very expensive fly-in fishing lodge and our "chef" (he was trained) would repeatedly dig his hands into the ice cream pail and lick the ice cream off his fingers. We would ony eat ice cream if we were the first to open the pail!
This was a few years ago, I have no idea where this man is working now. I should find out and not go there!
funnygirl - June 21, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
Welcome mouse!! That was my nickname in high school! Please PLEASE find out if this fool is still working somewhere. :oooo
I hope you stick around! I think ART is the next best thing to TiVo. :laugh
dfleminator - June 21, 2007 04:06 AM (GMT)
Glad to have you posting mouse... don't be shy! I look forward to reading your posts in the future (although the thought of a chef doing that disgusts me  )
chairo - June 21, 2007 11:34 AM (GMT)
Welcome mouse, nice to hear from you. I bet more goes on in kitchens at restaurants than we'd ever want to know. I have heard horror stories from people who work in them but I try to ignore my inner thoughts because I hate to cook and love to eat out.

Me too, chairo, and I love a little fast food once in awhile, and have heard horror stories about those places... but I need my Happy Meal once in awhle.
Digging your hands in the ice cream pail and licking your fingers!? UGH! Now at home.... that's a different story. ;)
Welcome, mouse! :)

I agree, it seems like this season is really a HUGE mess. I also think Rock and Julia are two of the best. I am wondering if Melissa is just not getting much airtime because I think she is pretty good.
Oh, I always try and be VERY nice at fast food places - I am afraid of what they would do to my food if I am not. I too have heard horror stories. Yuck!

I don't think it really matters if you are nice or not frankly! Years ago (back when I ate meat) I actually got a black wax pencil wrapped in my chicken sandwich from Burger King!
funnygirl - June 22, 2007 03:18 PM (GMT)
Can we PLEASE stop with the prepared food horror stories! I admit, it's helping with my diet, however, the nausea carries for days!! :S
Welcome Vanilla!!

I ate at a chain Italian Restaurant a number of years ago and got chunks of lasagna in my coffee, hardened sauce on my fork and something else I can't remember. They replaced the fork 3 times and didn't seem all that concerned about my lumpy coffee. They actually got very rude about me complaining. I never went back.
If you like to eat out as I do, you just have to get the right mind set and order only things you can see through lol ... never let them bring you a 'poured' cup of coffee .. it must be poured in your presence.
Haven't had lumpy coffee since
jonnysbandit - June 22, 2007 03:57 PM (GMT)
OK I draw the line at "lumpy" coffee! :S
Back OT... I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened to Aaron. I can't wait for Gordon' Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares to start here! I love that show in the UK.
