Title: ART Talk-Premiere- 2 Hours Tonight My Friends!
Boo - June 13, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
I know I'm very early but I won't remember to put it up later. Tonight, the new season of Last Comic Standing-International Version *cough*yeahhhright*cough* is starting at 9 ET and it's two whole hours of fun! Discuss who sucks, who rocks, and how your dog is funnier than half of them.
funnygirl - June 13, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
Um Boo, I hate to call you out on your discriminating post, but my CATS could totally kick your dogs butt in the comedy arena! :D
Boo - June 14, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
Haha! I read an old recap of mine from last season and I said that my cat was funnier than someone, so take back your hurtful words right now against me! And everyone knows cats are better comedians than dogs...but let's keep it on the down low.

I only watched the last hour, and I thought the talent overall was pretty good.
However, I felt the judges tended to pick people who were perhaps fairly funny but unique, rather than those who had really great jokes. Just my opinion of course, but I thought there were some really smart wits that didn't make it through.
The last group to make it through made me laugh: a somewhat dry witted woman, a gay person, and a black guy.
Hmm, that sounds familiar....
I'm kidding, don't take that seriously!
jonnysbandit - June 14, 2007 05:09 PM (GMT)
I thought Sabrina was hilarious (cat joke lady!). I was disappointed the "fat guy with glasses" (his discription not mine!) was really funny in the final city last night. I was disappointed Mel Silverback made it instead of him! :(

Sabrina was really good... I enjoyed her immensely.
jonnysbandit - June 14, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
I wonder how long before Buck Starr shows up this season? :S:
funnygirl - June 14, 2007 09:10 PM (GMT)
I think Buck Starr was told last season that he couldn't come back if they gave him a shot at the big stage.
I liked all the comedians they chose. I didn't have any "what the heck were they thinking" moments as I had in the past seasons. I wasn't terribly disappointed for those who didn't make it. You have to remember we didn't see all of their set just a few key moments. I LOVE that they have comedians picking and choosing the finalists. So far, I haven't read anything about people like Kathy Madigan and Ant who got through because their agent made a phone call.
dfleminator - June 14, 2007 09:54 PM (GMT)
Yes... I hold up a great deal of hope for this season... last season I was shocked at who got through and who didn't. I hope that we continue this way!
funnygirl - June 15, 2007 02:51 AM (GMT)
I forgot to send a wee bit of an apology out to Boo, I forgot about your shout out to cats last season. :laugh Then again, cats don't really need a shout out, they KNOW they're fabulous. Dogs, on the other hand, are just confused. :D

She was the one I enjoyed the least....

I wonder if "Mel Silverback" is really the same guy who did the "Unknown Comic" in the 70's... :laugh

 jonnysbandit
I've been wondering who it is, the voice sounds slightly familiar... I guess that is part of the gimmick.

Actually, looking back at Boo's recap, I think it may have been Debra that I liked... I don't remember Sabrina
jonnysbandit - June 15, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Sabrina is the woman who told the joke about her Mom unplugging the microwave every night before bed because the cats might accidentally push the buttons, crawl inside, close the door and microwave themselves! :giggle: She also said "oh I'm sorry did I need to take a moment to announce I'm a lesbian?" or something like that.
dfleminator - June 15, 2007 06:09 PM (GMT)
Yes, she was ok... I was thinking of Debra who had told jokes about cats too...
jonnysbandit - June 15, 2007 06:21 PM (GMT)
Who was the chick who looked like Harry Potter? Was she from Canada? I was glad she didn't make it. I thought her jokes were lame. Was that Debra?
dfleminator - June 15, 2007 06:27 PM (GMT)
That wasn't Debra... Debra did make it... I don't know who you're talking about...
jonnysbandit - June 15, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
The skinny girl with short hair, glasses and wearing a vest with tie. I swear she looked just like Harry Potter. she is the one Ant and Alonzo said "no" to for the showcase and Kathleen strong armed them into letting her perform. Her jokes her really weird humor.
Boo - June 16, 2007 09:01 PM (GMT)
Her name was DeeAnn or something like that. I chose not to write about her but I can't remember why. Oops.

Probably because she reminded you of Harry Potter!!!

I rewatched the premiere tonight (hubby hadn't seen it) and I had a pretty different take on it.
Dfieming, I got Debra and Sabrina mixed up myself. It was Debra who was my least favourite after my first watch because she seemed a "bit much" to me at first however I recognized her tonight as the woman who does a show on "Muchmore Music" called "Video on Trial" (a bunch of comics commenting on various music videos) and she is always hilarious on those, so I'm hoping to see some good stuff from her.
Billy Dee is fairly solid, and I was disappointed last year that some of the crappy people got through instead of him... so it was good to see him back.
Mel Silverback was way less funny the second time around. His act may get real old quick. "Hide the banana"? Really.
I forget his name but I would have preferred to see the young guy with the curly hair get through instead.
I thought the talent was pretty thick in the second group, and Sabrina is actually pretty funny... I really like her relaxed, almost conversational, delivery.
I forget his name, but the audience favourite from that group was really, really good.

I finally got to view the video of this. For the most part I was happy with the choices but think the final group (I think) had several more I'd have liked to see get through but guess they have limited it to 3 from each location. The Harry Potter woman (I didn't catch that until you mentioned it here) was definitely NOT funny. ANd the gorillia man, I do believe will grow old very fast. If he doesn't have more than than I don't see him going far ... but then are the audiences for whom the perform different everytime?
The self proclaimed gay woman wasn't bad and I did like the guy who won the audience choice. How much longer will the auditions last?
