Title: The Next Food Network Star
jonnysbandit - June 4, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
Anyone watching The Next Food Network Star?
The Next Food Network StarI'm not sorry to see Patrick go--he seemed very arrogant (I'm not sure why--he obviously had no reason to be) or Vivien go. She obviously didn't have the cooking chops to back up her looks. Besides, the food network already has the "hot chick" spot fulfilled with Giada and Nigella. I would love to see and organic/vegetarian show. I don't think they have one right now.
I have to say though I was shocked that Tory didn't get cut. It sounded like the judges really hated her dishes and that "wedding" cake she made--disaster!

It's on my TiVo. I thought I would catch it tonight just before I watch Hell's Kitchen. I'll respond to the remainder of your post tomorrow or later tonight jb.

Sorry... I hope I didn't "spoil" too much for you!!!
funnygirl - June 5, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
Not really. I knew about Patrick because I couldn't stop reading in time, but all in all it was a surprise they cut two. I knew they weren't gonna get rid of organic girl (Colombe). I thought bruchieta girl saved herself on that one. How funny was it when Nikki dumped dessert all over Bobby Flay. He said "don't worry about it" and she comes back with "I'm worried as hell!" That was GREAT! I also loved that they created a dish for Mr. Foo. :laugh
I think I'm gonna like this season. It's funny how much I enjoy these cooking shows on Bravo and The Food Network seeing how much I hate to cook. :laugh

I can't wait to see who wins this but I can't pick who I want to win yet
jonnysbandit - June 8, 2007 01:37 PM (GMT)
I haven't picked a "winner" yet either but I know who I do NOT want to win. Two of them are already gone, now if we can just get rid of Tory...
jonnysbandit - June 11, 2007 12:12 PM (GMT)
Wasn't sorry to see Nikki go. She can take her "strong personality" and go to Discovery/TLC and get a show like Patrick Lyon from last year. ICK. I didn't like him either. Toward the end of last year you could tell he wasn't a very nice person underneath--you know how you can tell sometimes when someone is just a schmoozer? He seemed like he has this rage bubbling just under the surface and could explode at any time.
But back to last night... Tory redeemed herself but I really thought Michael's dish looked better.

I finally got to watch this last night. The one thing that has been bugging me is Rory. I know I knew her from somewhere. I knew I had seen her before so I finally got a moment to google her and then BAM, it came back to me. VH1 had a reality show called "Popularity Contest" that aired last summer. It was very obscure and a little weird, but Rory came in second (which meant nothing). She was trying to convince everybody that because she was this big city chef and could cook so well, it didn't matter that she was a stuck-up bitch. There were clearly dividing lines with her and it was unfortunately her undoing. :laugh
I don't like her more humble "I'm just a small town girl" approach to reality television any more than I liked her over-confident "I'm the best there is" attitude the first time around. I hope she gets the boot FAST!
jonnysbandit - June 12, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
Ugh! Reality TV whores just bug me! I didn't like her before but now that I know she is just trying to become famous for anything really disgusts me!
kira_butterfly - June 13, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
I just started to watch this show. It's actually pretty good! I got caught up this weekend they had a replay of them all on Sunday!

funnygirl - June 18, 2007 04:35 AM (GMT)
This was a great show. Mostly because it contained Guy Fierti (sp?). I loved the challenges and completely agreed with the two eliminated. Thank God they got rid of Colombe! Now we just need to boot Rory and I'll be happy. :D
jonnysbandit - June 18, 2007 12:09 PM (GMT)
I love Guy Fieri! I would watch him cook fish! (you can only appreciate that if you knew how much I despise it!). I too agreed with the two bumped this week although I hated to see Colombe go ONLY because I felt she could have filled a niche that wasn't being filled currently at Food Network with the organic/vegetarian cuisine. I didn't however think ther personality was a great one for television. Tommy--meh, he really wanted to go so... I'm glad they sent him home.
I'm really getting sick of Amy (why does everything she makes have to be so complicated? And I'm SO sick of her know it all attitude!)
Paul--I hope he is next! I honestly can't stand any more of his "this is my LAST chance!" junk.
Tory--why is she even still there?
I really like Adrian, JAG and yes, even Michael. He needs to stop trying so hard though. I would be happy of any of those three won however, I think Paul has been getting the "winners edit" since the beginning! :S

:laugh I know you don't like her, but her name is Rory. :laugh Too funny jb, too funny.
My favorite is "Salmon" like the fish. I wish they would get a woman on that I can relate to and would enjoy watching. :shifty

Oops, purely unintentional!!!

I know. :giggle: That's why I was laughing.
funnygirl - June 25, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
Okay so tonight's show was kind of wierd. I was sorry to see "Salmon" go, but I thought he was coming off kind of bland. How great was Paul tonight? Ugh, Rory did pretty good tonight. I could have done without the boo-hoo fest, but I guess it's pretty stressful.
jonnysbandit - June 25, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
I did think Michael's shout out to the troops from Vietnam was a little awkward... :S
The only other person I thought I'd like to see leave last night was--oh what the heck IS her name? The non-Tory woman. I can't stand her. Her "I'm so upscale" routine is getting old! :tireder
funnygirl - June 25, 2007 12:57 PM (GMT)
Totally agree. There isn't one personality this season that I can really relate to. It's like we've seen it all before. You said "Tory" again. :giggle:
jonnysbandit - June 25, 2007 01:16 PM (GMT)
Oops! I meant RORY! I have that on the brain because I have a cousin named Tori and a good friend named Tori! :laugh
funnygirl - June 25, 2007 01:19 PM (GMT)
Do you "hate" them. :laugh
jonnysbandit - June 25, 2007 01:41 PM (GMT)
LOL No not really. Actually I don't even hate RORY as much as that other chick--what the heck is her name? I keep thinking Amy, is that right?
funnygirl - June 25, 2007 01:47 PM (GMT)
Yes, Amy is right. She doesn't bother me so much. I don't understand the whole "snooty" comments...maybe it's because I'm "snooty" myself. :S

jonnysbandit - July 2, 2007 12:32 PM (GMT)
OK, I could totally see the cut coming last night from the beginning of the show so very little suspense for me. I wish they would have let that hag Amy go home! I personally really liked Adrian but could totally see why they cut him loose. I didn't think Jag was that bad. I think RORY (see I finally got it right the first time this week!) has veneers on her teeth--have you ever noticed how they stick out over her gums?? I know it's petty, but she bugs me anyway. I'm SO sick of Paul but I'm sure he will be the one who gets his own show.
funnygirl - July 2, 2007 03:59 PM (GMT)
I agreed with Alton last night when he suggested getting rid of all of them and starting over. I agreed with who was sent home last night. I think part of JaG's problem is his ability to understand that his way is not and WILL not work in this format. I couldn't help but wonder why he and Amy didn't do Top Chef instead.

Couldn't make the cut? :giggle: Although it looked like last night Amy had no problem making "cuts" :smug
jonnysbandit - July 9, 2007 08:08 PM (GMT)
I didn't see the show, just the last 10 minutes or so to see the boot. So glad the person who got the boot got it. They were on my nerves! Now I really don't like anyone left at this point though.
funnygirl - July 9, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
You didn't miss much. I hate to say it, but Amy looks like she's got the best shot so far. :S Rory was a complete idiot during the commentary part. It was weird that Rory and the dude that left did a better job in the kitchen and JAG and Amy did a better part on the commentary. However, Amy's cooking wasn't too bad.
jonnysbandit - July 9, 2007 08:30 PM (GMT)
I just don't see Amy with the personality to make a show interesting...do you?
funnygirl - July 9, 2007 11:33 PM (GMT)
She managed to bring her personality last night. She wasn't snobbish or over-informing, she was actually delightful and informative. Kind of like Joan Steffend on Decorating Cents (I LOVE that show!). The other three were lacking all over the place.
I get the impression that they are looking for a woman this year, but I've been wrong before on what networks want. :laugh
jonnysbandit - July 10, 2007 12:11 PM (GMT)
I watched it last night and didn't find Amy informative or charming. Bland and boring is more like it. I wish she were gone. I can't see anyone wanting to watch her. ick
jonnysbandit - July 16, 2007 02:43 PM (GMT)
OK, I was not at all surprised by the turn of events last night. I had read rumors several weeks ago about a contestant that may not have been as honest as they should have been so... not surprised. Sorry to see those two in the final 2 though. Both are worthless in my book. I may not even watch the finale. Who cares at this point.
funnygirl - July 16, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
I haven't watched it yet. However, when I was turning off my DVD player a clip from the show was airing on commercial and it was of JAG taking himself out of the running. What happened?
jonnysbandit - July 16, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
Amy was cut from the final 3 leaving RORY (see I got it right again) and Jag as the F2. Then a message came up on the screen that the producers found out Jag had lied about graduating from culinary school and about being deployed to Afganistan. Both were not true. he was called to NY for a "meeting" with producers where he told the truth and said he was taking himself out of the running. Looks like Mr. Ed or Pretentious Amy will get their own show. I won't watch either. :suspicious
funnygirl - July 16, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
You made me spit my water out! Should I waste my tmie watching last night's epi?
jonnysbandit - July 23, 2007 12:23 PM (GMT)
*yawn*
At least Mr. Ed didn't win...
funnygirl - July 23, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
Second show in a row where she wasn't "voted" the winner. :laugh Sounds like she's got enough to keep her busy anyway. I want to hang out with Amy's family.

funnygirl - July 23, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
They looked like they were a lot of fun. I know you weren't her biggest fan and I have to admit she's no "Guy" (who I love), but when she was with her family she seemed to be a lot of fun and charismatic.
