QUOTE (NBC)
NBC’s lively laughfest "Last Comic Standing" returns this summer with new host Bill Bellamy ("Def Comedy Jam," "Any Given Sunday"), new talent scouts -- "Last Comic Standing" alumni Alonzo Bodden, ANT and Kathleen Madigan – and an all new quest -- to find the funniest new comedian in the world.

For the first time ever in the history of the show, the Emmy-nominated series broadens its scope by searching internationally for the world’s funniest comedian. The fun kicks off with scouts Alonzo Bodden (season 3 winner), ANT and Kathleen Madigan traveling across the globe to find the best professional and aspiring comedians. They stop in London, Montreal and Sydney, Australia, before moving on to Los Angeles, New York, Minneapolis, San Antonio and Tempe.

After the auditions come the semi-final rounds, in which comics engage in a fiercely funny and fast-paced competition to be one of the top finalists. Then each week, America will vote which comedian gets sent home – and which one will be the "Last Comic Standing." The grand prize winner will receive $250,000, plus an exclusive talent contract with NBC Universal and his or her own half-hour comedy special on Bravo.

"Last Comic Standing" is produced by Peter Engel Productions, Magical Elves and NBC Universal Television Studio. The executive producers are Peter Engel ("Saved By the Bell," "City Guys"), Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz (Bravo's "Project Runway" and "Top Chef") and Barry Katz ("Action," "Dane Cook's Tourgasm"), and Javier Winnik ("Last Comic Standing," "Treasure Hunters") is the co-executive producer.

I really don't know how this show is coming back. I thought the last couple of seasons were on "borrowed" time.

The first two seasons were excellent with Jay Mohr... because of the good ratings of the first two seasons, NBC decided to rush a third season into production, which was basically an all stars version of the show.... it was really bad, and NBC moved the finale to a cable network. Jay Mohr was none too happy, so he revealed the winner a few days early on the Today show.

They decided to try it again last season, and it was fairly good, although there were a number of comics that were selected that were terrible. Also, the host really sucked. We'll have to see how Bill Bellamy does as host... he could make or break this show.

The first two seasons were excellent with Jay Mohr...

This is clearly questionable. The first season was great because we didn't know what to expect and it seemed fresh and "live". The second season started out terrible because the verteran comics who were supposed to pick the comics to go into the house CLEARLY had no idea that the show was rigged with people who were already guaranteed a spot in the house regardless of whether they did well or not...it kind of went downhill from there.

Season 3 (the so-called "All Stars") blew because it was too soon after Season 2 and it gave them an unfair advantage.

Last season was rediculous at best. Most of it was staged (and not in a good way), the comics truly sucked and the winner (even though he's a great guy) was really not funny AT ALL! He was a one-trick pony. I think if NBC is going to continue to try and convince us that "we're" in control or that they are giving us "the best comcs from all over the country" they are going to continue to lose ratings.

PS: The best I've seen Jay Mohr is on Ghost Whisperer. Things are as they should be...host-wise. :laugh

You're right... I'd forgotten the season 2 debacle... I think that Jay Mohr did really well host-wise, however... all I know is that last year sucked.

I haven't seen the last couple of seasons...I guess that is a good thing for me right?! :) So, I'm looking forward to seeing it again this season...hopefully they will be good! I hear about Ralphie May everynow and again here in Columbus. He was just on our local radio station doing a prank at the Memorial Golf Tourney! :) hahaha...he's a funny guy!

jonnysbandit - June 6, 2007 04:24 PM (GMT)
Did Ralphie continue to lose weight? Maybe he could be on "Celebrity Fit Club" again like Wendy the Snapple Lady.

funnygirl - June 6, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
He looks a lot better than he did, but he's still "obese". However, according to his website (www.RalphieMay.com) he's going to be a father soon.

Yippee! Hoorah! I love LCS even if it is fixed and predictable. We are to see the 'best comics from ALL OVER THE WORLD" this year. I don't care they can be the worst and I'll still love it. After all I knew who would win Survivor and who would win TAR and I still loved watching them.

We can still pretend our favorite has a chance.

Every one seems to have a problem with hosts. I actually rarely could tell you who hosts what show, they are such minor characters I seem to just skim over them.

I do however agree with Dfleminator that OTL could do without a host, especially this one.

They however, can't all be Ryan Seacrest with good ol' Simon to play with.

How many think Sharon Osborn was the right choice as judge for America's Got Talent?

Oh well too each his own.

funnygirl - June 6, 2007 08:16 PM (GMT)
Um, chairo I wouldn't watch Survivor without Probst. He's an intregal part of that 'game".

Also, nobody in the world gives "brow" like the Philiminator himself on TAR!!

HOSTS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!

- clears throat and knocks over soap box -

I don't particularly care for America's Got Talent so it's hard for me to say whether Sharon was a good replacement for Brandy or not. I do prefer Jerry over Regis though. :laugh

Back on topic...this show doesn't really need a host.

chairo - June 6, 2007 08:21 PM (GMT)
I see things just the opposite. I honestly don't think any of the shows need hosts. (Except Ryan) Jeff is cute but I wouldn't miss him if he left Survivor. Phil does seem to do a little more than most hosts. This show is one of those that don't need one so on that we agree. A voice over would do just as well in most cases.

International my ....
There were a lot of Canadians on the show last year, but none of them made it to the finals anyway. Conspiracy! :P

As for the host, I still don't know what happened to Anthony Clark last year but it was painful to watch. I'm giving the new guy a chance.

funnygirl - June 12, 2007 04:18 PM (GMT)
Last I heard Mr. Clark was in rehab. :shifty
