Tonight was the semi finals. The couples got to choose their favorite dances. Len said that he expects great performances since the stars were picking the dance they wanted to do.
First up in the ballroom competition were Apolo and Julianne dancing the Quick Step. During rehearsal Apolo said they need to concentrate on the details and he wants to impress Len with the ballroom selection. He said he always reaches for the impossible and tonight he wants to be the first couple with 6 tens.
Carrie Ann thanked Apolo and Julianne for setting the standards high for this evening’s semi-finals.
Len said he expected them to be good but they were fantastic. They had control and maintained contact.
Bruno said “Apolo express is off on a magic ride.” It was incredible footwork.
The judges scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 Total 30/30
Ian and Cheryl chose the Tango for their ballroom dance. During rehearsal Ian said he needs to find a way to make his enjoyment of dance show.
Carrie Ann said they started out strong but went out of focus in the middle. She said he needs to travel like he is going somewhere not just doing the steps.
Len said he was watching them closely and knows he has not been one of their favorite judges (meaning he has been hard on them) but felt this was their best dance to date. It was on the money, and had passion and flair. He loved it.
Bruno said Ian’s demon side came out. He was in a frenzy.
The judges scores: Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 10, Bruno – 9 Total 28/30
Dancing third was Laila and Maks. They chose the Quick Step because it was high energy and there was a lot of pressure on them. They snipped at each other during rehearsal and Maks walked out. Later he brought her flowers and she took him home to spend time with her family.
Carrie Ann said that Laila had it the toughest because people expect her to be as good as the professional women dancers. They danced to “Like and Egyptian” and she thought they were amazing. She is holding her own and the dance was elegant.
Len said there was great movement and even though the dance was more basic than Apolo and Julianne’s it was every bit as good. He thought they were great. {Maks began talking back during Len’s commentary and one had to wonder if it would affect Len’s score}
Bruno said she was Cleopatra, the jewel of the Nile. A winner!
The judges scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Bruno – 10 Total 30/30
Before their dance Joey said that he was hurt to be in the bottom two last week. Making the finals is everything to him. He also said the fans are very important and he wants to entertain them. They went to Disneyland to dance for the fans and encourage them to vote.
Joey and Kym chose the Foxtrot and danced to “My Guy”
Carrie Ann thought it was amazing. He has what it takes. After being disappointed last week he came back like a pro and in her opinion he won the ballroom round hands down.

Prior to the Latin round began Len, who during his career was a Latin American dancer visited each couple to offer some advice. He told Apolo he had to keep his toes pointing outward. Ian needed more bounce. Laila needed to place her hands better .. think of her hands not her arms. Joey should keep his butt in.
Apolo and Julianne danced the Cha Cha to “Baby Baby”
Carrie Ann said they sold it. It was the sexiest Cha Cha she had seen.
Len said it was too raunchy. Too much gyration and raunch. Too much of one thing.
Bruno argued with him as did Carrie Ann. Bruno said it was energizing and a shot of adrenaline. They could really push it.

“She’s a Lady” was the music of choice for Laila and Maks' performance of the Cha Cha.
Carrie Ann said they had great form. The technique shined through.
Len thought it had more content and great basic steps. Laila won him over with the Butterfly
{This was apparently something she taught him when he stopped to coach them)
Bruno said it was a knockout. Confident and alluring.

Joey and Kym brought the competition for the evening to completion with the Jive.
Carrie Ann thanked Joey for laying on the judges table to start the dance. Usually she said it is the women who do that and it was nice to have a man do it. The dance was fantastic.
Len said Joey has something everyone has but bigger … PERSONALITY and if he isn’t in the finals they will be missing a great dancer. His performance was full of energy and enthusiasm.
