Title: ART Talk - All Shows
Description: discussion

Ok, let's dish about last night. Unless you watched those other 2 shows that were on:
Squishybut - February 26, 2007 03:56 PM (GMT)
Ok, so Kate is gone. I missed last sunday's show, so wasn't sure how bad her performance is.
Honestly, I think this show isn't so entertaining. It bores me.
Last night, I thought Kathleen, who sang "let's hear it for the boy" sounded awful. They should have kept Kate! At least the judges agreed with me.
Laura did a great job with "Fever". I can't believe she could sing like that and be dancing and thrown around at the same time. Any of these ladies, except Kathleen, would make a great Sandy, IMO.
Allie did a Bjork song and nearly had a costume malfunction, but she looked and sounded really cute.
Ashley sang "these boots are made for walking" and did a good job. I didn't totally buy her performance. I think she sings better than performs. Her onstage acting/singing was too rehearsed looking and not natural. But damn, she looks good.
chairo - February 26, 2007 04:09 PM (GMT)
Squishy, I agree with a lot of what you said but I do enjoy this show. I WATCHED it and Taped TAR and watched that one later.
I think Kathleen should have been eliminated and Kate should have stayed. I didn't think her performance was so bad last week but she did hit a few sour notes. (Kate) but there was something I can't put my finger on at the moment that led me to believe she would be the one gone and she was.
I am a huge Ashley fan because she is Ohio and so am I plus she lives less than a mile from where I work. BUT if she didn't have talent I wouldn't root for her.
On the other hand Laura blew me away last night. Ashley was hot and did great but Laura was totally unbeatable.
However the judges said they need to be good at three things. I didnt' see Laura's acting so can't say about that. I did see Ashley's and she was pretty good, but actually didn't think any of them did that well in the acting area.
I am surprised Max is still around but I do think the right guy was evicted.
What made the show a little more exciting for me is that I watched the movie Grease earlier in the day so had a more current comparison. I didn't think they did that well on the group number "sandra dee" .. changed too much to make it sound familiar.
At this point I think Laura and Ashley are the women to beat.
Since it was just the Sandy's last night does that mean two girls will be evicted next week?
Squishybut - February 26, 2007 04:22 PM (GMT)
I wish I knew! I watched it until they all performed and then I switched to my DVR of TAR, so maybe they made mention at the end of the show but I didn't stick around. Thanks for you input!
tinkcrzy1972 - February 27, 2007 01:11 AM (GMT)
I missed it, was watching the Oscars. Who got eliminated last night?
Squishybut - February 27, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
Kate, for the girls. Chairo, which guy got cut?
chairo - February 27, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
Kevin got cut. I think he pretty much expected it. Said that this wasn't his thing. If it was Shakespear he'd shine. Also said it wasn't the last we would see him or hear about him. He was up against Chad. The judges eliminated the ones America picked.

chairo - March 5, 2007 06:38 PM (GMT)
Well now we are down to ashley, Laura and Allie. I really don't think there is much competition except between Laura and Ashley. It's all going to come down to who has the biggest fan base.
They both have things in their favor. I was sold on Ashley for a long time because of the home town connection but now I think either would make a great Sandy.
chairo - March 5, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah last night was guys night. I was not particularly impressed with any of them. Austin did okay, Max was probably the best, Chad was fun to watch and a feast for the eyes but messed up the vocal. Derek, same as Chad. I would prefer Derek or Chad over the others because they have a great look for the part. Austin is too cocky and Max is starting to win me over. It my humble opinion due to the comments of the judges, Chad will most likely be gone next week, though they didn't care for Austin either or for that matter were they impressed with Derek. They loved Chad's look and said that would sell a ton of tickets but if America votes with their ears instead of their eyes, Max is the next Danny.
funnygirl - March 5, 2007 07:42 PM (GMT)
Max is is NOT right to play Danny. He didn't butch up even during that song. He's too scrawny and looks like a witch. :laugh
chairo - March 5, 2007 08:20 PM (GMT)
Funnygirl, you don't have to convince me. I have been a Derek fan from the beginning. I am just admitting he made a few mistakes the past couple of weeks.
The judges voted MAX the Danny to beat last night. Trust me, I'd event take Austin over Max and I am not a huge Austin fan.
funnygirl - March 5, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
I watched, sort of. I thought Austin looked rediculous last night adn he's been one of my faves from the beginning. My favorite girl has been the last brunette standing. I can't believe they let Kate go last week. :O
I think if it's Max and Chad in bottom 2, Chad will go. Anybody else and Max is out of there.
chairo - March 6, 2007 10:32 PM (GMT)
Mark the calender, I do believe I agree with you yet again. If Derek really brings it together next week he would definitely beat Max. Austin was the fair haired boy for most of the competition so think he was a little underwhelmed to be criticized. But would beat Max I believe. I even think Chad could beat him because he has the LOOK David likes. Of course he needs to prove he can sing and dance at the same time.
Laura (brunette) and Ashley are my favorites. It will be a tough call between the two of them. They are both very talented. Ashley may pull out a victory because she has the look we associate with Sandy; In order to compare Sandy with Sandra Dee (in looks) Laura would have to wear a wig.
tinkcrzy1972 - March 6, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
Derek and Laura have been my picks from the first week, and I'd really like to see them get it. As for the blonde/not blonde debate...I've seen the stage version, and when I did, Lori Laughlin, before she was famous for Full House, was Sandy. She was very much a brunette. Christopher Atkins was the "star" draw that played Danny.

I do believe I'm off this week since I seem to be agreeing with everyone! :S
I think the Sandra Dee song is more about character than looks, the look just obviates it. :giggle:
chairo - March 7, 2007 02:34 PM (GMT)
Once again I have to agree about the "Sandra Dee" references. It isn't so much the look but the actions. Myself and 3 friends were all called the "sandra dee girls" right after high school. We had blond to black hair. BUT having said that, I still think blond when I hear Sandra Dee. Of course I used to think "blond" when I heard Britney Spears and now look at her lol
chairo - March 12, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
It appears with all the other reality shows on at the moment this one isn't getting a lot of attention. Tonight The judges saved Austin over Chad and oddly enough tonight I think Chad had the better performance. The over all opinion of the judges was Laura for Sandy and split between Max and Austin for Danny. They are no longer going to be able to save any of the contestants so guess now it really is up to America.
Squishybut - March 12, 2007 03:01 PM (GMT)
I voted last night for Derek and Laura. It was my first time voting.
funnygirl - March 12, 2007 03:41 PM (GMT)
I didn't vote, but I really cannot fathom Max as Danny. I think our John Stamos look-a-like should do it, but because he doesn't have a cool calling "slacker-backer" he may not eek out this win.
I love Austin and find him a brilliant choice for most Broadway productions, but I have to say that this is not one of them. I think he would be perfect as Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. ;)
chairo - March 12, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
I agree Funnygirl ... Max just isn't my idea of Danny. Derek would be so much better. Austin is too polished. As for the Sandys I'd be okay with either Laura or Ashley but personally like Ashley better. I am sure her being a hometown girl probably influences that choice but she is a great performer.
dfleminator - March 12, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
I like Max... he reminds me a lot of a friend of mine. I'll admit I'm all about the singing over the rest of it though.
tinkcrzy1972 - March 12, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
I think Derek is the best choice of the Dannys, but I'd rather have it be Max than Austin. He is just too polished and pretty boy. I'd also rather it was Laura over Ashley.
Boo - March 16, 2007 08:16 PM (GMT)
You guys are great! Every article I've read practically hands the win over to Max but I think Derek would do just fine. But it's not like I would actually go see the show
Also, I changed the title of the thread.
funnygirl - March 17, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
I agree Boo. I won't pay to see it either. Granted, thanks to my oldest who is a Grease fanatic, I've already seen 3 different versions of the stage show already!
chairo - March 19, 2007 03:05 AM (GMT)
Well if the panel has anything to do with influencing the public in how they vote looks like Laura and Max will be the winners. I would take Max over Austin but not sure about Laura over Ashley. They are both good but I really though Ashley had better chemistry with Max, though Laura was a little (very little) better in the singing. Personally I think it should have been Derek as Danny, but what do I know, I'd have just been a possible ticket buyer... NOT!
funnygirl - March 19, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)
I agree with you 100%. The show lost its luster when they eliminated Derek. I wanted it to be Laura and Derek in the end, but I'll be happy if it's Laura and Austin! Max just does not read "leader of the pack" to me. I don't care what those stupid judges say!!
chairo - March 19, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
I watched Laura and Austin together pretty closely and I really don't think they clicked. They actually appeared to be trying to outshine each other than clicking as a couple.
Most natural couple seemed to be Ashley and Max but I agree about Max not seeing like the Danny type but then neither does Austin. I will admit after hearing the stories of their lives and what they have over came I shed a tear or two and was torn between them. But man did Max over come soooo much.
At this point I guess it doesn't matter who wins. They got the top two girls right but struck way out with the guys. Of course I won't be traveling to NY to see the show anyway.
dfleminator - March 19, 2007 06:37 PM (GMT)
Austin would try to outshine anyone... it's part of what makes him so disgustingly sickening.
tinkcrzy1972 - March 19, 2007 08:31 PM (GMT)
So glad I'm not the only one that thinks that, Dflem! :girn:
funnygirl - March 19, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Trust me...Derek was my first and only pick. But given what's left over, I'll take Austin any day over Max!
tinkcrzy1972 - March 19, 2007 10:01 PM (GMT)
I'd actually like to vote none of the above out of the choices left for Danny... :no
funnygirl - March 26, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
So I got half of my choice for Final 2. :S I wasn't really thrilled with the rest of the cast either. They didn't strike me as the people I envisioned for this show. :no
chairo - March 26, 2007 02:45 PM (GMT)
I am glad I wasn't the only one who thought the rest of the broadway cast wasn't 'all that'!!
I really don't think Max is going to be able to carry that production but I suppose they have ways around that. If records can make people sound better than they are maybe a Broadway state can too.
I really wanted Ashley for Sandy but it was really a toss up. Both were very good. Both would have made good Sandys ... unlike who the two Danny choices.
tinkcrzy1972 - March 26, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
I was so thoroughly unimpressed last night! I think that just about the only good choice that was made was Laura. I worry she may end up carrying the production.
kira_butterfly - March 27, 2007 01:27 PM (GMT)
I was not happy with the choices as well...I like Ashley...I had since the beginning!
What was up with the cast? The last one that was supposed to be Rizzo...looked like that DiGorio girl that was with Danny in the dancing competition...you know who I'm talking about (at their prom)? And who was that fat guy supposed to be? Good Lord! And there was another bigger girl...what was up with that? They were all skinny.....I hope they have to lose some weight or something...gosh! (not trying to be mean...they just didn't look like the stars)
chairo - March 27, 2007 02:02 PM (GMT)
The heavier girl in pigtails was the one that wore pigtails in the movie. Can't remember the name but she was a little chubby. The one that is Frenchie sure didn't seem like any version of Frenchie I have ever seen. And the one playing Rizzo ... well I guess it is hard to picture someone else in the role .... as with all the new 'versions' of the characters we know. (I agree she looked like the girl Danny danced with at the dancing comp in the movie)
I can't remember who they said the heavy set guy was but I sure don't remember any overweight men in the original.
Unless something really great happens I just can't see Max carrying the character of Danny. He may LOOK a little like him, but he just doesn't have the dynamic that Travolta had in the part, and no matter what people say, they ARE going to judge this production based on the familiar characters they have grown to associate with each role.
funnygirl - March 27, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
Adrian Zmed was the best live Danny I've seen and I've seen a LOT! I do not think this cast is indicative of a traditional Grease cast at all. When you have somebody like Max playing Danny, I guess the rest of the cast will follow suit! The stage version is a lot different than the screen version, but I still don't see these characters pulling off what we've come to know characteristcially as kids who attend Rydell High.
Squishybut - March 28, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
Both my picks/predictions were the runner ups! I wanted Derek after watching but I gave my predictions before we really got to see them. Not bad (as i pat myself on my back)
tinkcrzy1972 - March 29, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
Did anyone else catch Max and Laura on Mike & Juliet in the Morning today? She's awfully cute, and sells the part, but I just don't know about Max. They have some work to do with him. According to the show this morning, they open in July. That's not a lot of time.
