Title: Grease: You're The One That I Want
Description: On NBC
Boo - January 7, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
"The reality show where YOU decide the new Broadway cast of Grease!" Literally. Starts at 8 PM ET tonight. Hosted by Billy Bush. Anyone watching?
dfleminator - January 8, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
I watched it... I like this idea, interesting in that contestants have to sing, act AND dance. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds.
funnygirl - January 8, 2007 03:37 PM (GMT)
I LOVED it!! I'm so glad they did not go the way of American Idol and OD us on the crappy auditions.
dfleminator - January 8, 2007 04:29 PM (GMT)
I could have used a few more crappy ones, but I agree that AI has too many.

I love this show! I was laughing so hard at the Tapping Cupcake, Sunshine, and that one older lady with the black hair they showed at the beginning who said she did horror films. She just wouldn't shut up and kept going on and on and on. She was scary. Yikes! :laugh
funnygirl - January 9, 2007 08:24 PM (GMT)
They did a sound byte of her the next morning on my local radio show. She sounded even worse without the visual!
Diamond Girl - January 10, 2007 04:44 AM (GMT)
I swear I've seen her somewhere on TV before, but I can't remember where.
dfleminator - January 10, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
I KNOW! I'm sure I've seen her before.

This one caught my attention because Grease was one of my favorite movies. It's hard to see someone else in roles that you automatically associate with someone else. It'll seem strange to see someone other than John Travolta as Danny or Olivia Newton John as Sandy. I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I have already chosen my favs and can't wait to see if the make the cut. I like the 40 year old guy and 17 year old girl .... though don't think they could work it together. I agree with the rest I have seen that black haired woman before but don't remember where .... a commerical maybe?
Diamond Girl - January 12, 2007 09:13 PM (GMT)
A 17 year old girl with a 40 year old guy seems a bit creepy given that she's not even of legal age, although I do know what you're trying to say about the 40 year old guy. I think he's just too old for the part.
My favorite is the 17 year old girl, too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she makes it. :)
funnygirl - January 12, 2007 09:56 PM (GMT)
She's too young. She'll never make it past Grease Academy. I liked the brunette they found in L.A. for the girls.
Diamond Girl - January 15, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
Wow, what a lot of talent they found in NY. I was impressed with those they chose to go to Grease Academy. Now it's going to get good. :)
What's everyone think about Sarah O. dumping her boyfriend because he made it into Grease Academy and she didn't? I felt so badly for him, but it's probably a blessing in disguise. Sarah O. is obviously a b*tch and doesn't deserve him if she can't support him. I would have been thrilled for him if he was my boyfriend.
chairo - January 15, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
I'm giving Sarah the benefit of the doubt for now. It would be very hard to see your boyfriend find his dream at the same moment your died. The thing is he wasn't that great and may not even make the final 12. Maybe they will get back together and maybe not. He'll need a shoulder to cry on if he gets voted out.
It's hard to keep track of everyone right now. Will be glad when it is down to the final 12. I found some last night I liked but remember there were several from last week that were good also.
The one thing I don't like on ANY of these reality shows is the long pause between pointing someone out and then telling if the made it or not. We don't really need that looooong anticipatory pause this early in the game

Mini-recap of 1/21/07 show:
From 48 to 12!
The show starts with the 48 contestants arriving at Grease Academy, which is an old elementary school with the classrooms used as rehearsal rooms and the lunchroom used as a dance hall. We don't get any chance to see how they live, eat, sleep, or play.
The first half hour quickly shows us the 48 contestants practicing singing and dancing, learning songs, techniques, and we can see who really shines and can do it all. We learn of friendships, backgrounds, etc. A few stand out, but I don't know who they are. Man, there are 48 of 'em.
The lead producer arrives and he makes everyone nervous. He works one on one with singing and looks and gives advice and then it is elimination time.
Everyone is given 10 minutes to learn a new song, "Tears on my pillow". They are all lined up in rows in the gym and they have to sing the song, all together, over and over again. If you are tapped, you have been eliminated. 24 people will make it through to the next phase.
Next day, the remaining 24 are broken up into groups of 4 where they learn a new song, not Grease related, where in 36 hours they will present a stage performance for a theater full of influential people and be judged based on that performance, who will be the "one that we want" for the final 12 live auditions. In the audience are past Grease performers of varying status:
Marylou Henner & the original Kanniky from Grease the movie, and other past Grease broadway stars.
They work for 36 hours and then they do their stage auditions in the show. After the show, the producers make their decisions and the final 6 Sandy's and 6 Danny's are chosen. Next week stay tuned to when the 12 get my individual attention and as always, please feel free to discuss the show right here!

Thanks squish... I'm going to try to get a forum up for this now that we have some finalists.

Thanks for doing the min-recaplet. That was the biggest waste of 60 minutes ever! That was the best the editors could do with the footage? :O
They said that the folks we saw in the audience was indicative of who the judges may be during the live show. If this is true, then Jeff Conaway is going to play the nice drunken judge on this series. :D

I enjoyed the show. I wasn't disappointed with the ones who won. My 40 year old guy got booted but then I didn't expect any less. The audience was a trip down memory lane. I had forgotten some of them were in the movie Grease. I thought the judges were going to be the three we have been seeing, guess I missed that part
funnygirl - January 25, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
They are chairo, but we will have guest judges too!
chairo - January 26, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Guess I am so involved watching the yummy Travolta wanna bes that I missed some of the information. Thanks Funnygirl.
Just found out one of the girls is from Stark County Ohio. Ashley I think. But don't quote me. Her mom was on a local radio talk show yesterday. I think the promos say she is from New York but she had only been then a couple of months. Missed the auditions there so flew to LA for the ones there. She made it but don't know now if she is one of the final 12 or not ... my memory is going .. watch too much television lol

I love the idea of the show but I never seem to catch all of it. I only get bits and pieces but I love Max! He is the one that really stands out for me as Danny and Laura for Sandy...
chairo - February 20, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
Derek - Danny (had a bad singing night but still like him)
Chad - Danny 2nd choice -- had a great night
Ashley - Sandy -- had an awesome night
funnygirl - February 20, 2007 05:04 PM (GMT)
I hate to say it Cheermama, but Max is my least favorite. There's just something about him that I don't like. I can't help but believe the moment he makes bottom two for the boys, he's gone!
