Chat about the season premier of ANTM right here!

Pretty good premiere. I liked it.

So far, the only girls who really stand out to me are Monica, Eugena, Melrose, Amanda, Michelle, and Anchal.

Not at all surprised to see Christian get the first boot. She talked up a good game of being exactly like Tyra, but she was doomed when she didn't deliver in that photo shoot and got the "not a model" label. I especially knew she was going because Melrose, one of this season's drama queens, was in the bottom two with her.

Well, I attempted to juggle a few shows last night... I flipped back and forth for ANTM and the results of DWTS and DVRed Biggest Loser. Being a reality TV junkie is tough!

Here's what I think so far this season-
Amanda - will be the first twin to go. For me, the twin thing is the only thing that works for her.
Michelle - more talented than her sister and a bit more bitchy. I know that Kristi and Nikki Taylor weren't twins but they hold the standard of sister sets for me and Amanda and Michelle don't measure up.
Jaeda - doesn't impress me too much. She could be great, she could suck.
A.J. - Definately one of my favorites to win. I like her look and her additude and she takes a great photo.
CariDee- is the "Lisa" of cycle 5 just nicer to look at.
Megan - doesn't do anthing for me. I don't see it for her, in fact, I was quite surprised that she was in the top 13 - I would have traded her out for Langlea.
Monique - I like her I just hope she gets the diva under control... She is a little like Nnema with the phone and all...
Anchal - another one of my favorites. I like her look and she brings something different to the show.
Melrose - I don't like her look as much as I like her drama. I hate the shorten name. She is no JLo or LiLo so go by Melissa Rose!
Brooke - the last of my top three. Perhaps I like her because last season I really wanted Joanie to win but so far, she is nice, pretty and takes a decent photo.
Megg - I loved her strung out photo but after hearing her shoot "Rock-n-roll" so many times last night, I think she has been in the situation before.
Eugena - she's my black horse. I think she could fly under the radar and do really well.

WHOA! There's twins? That makes so much sense now

As I was putting up the contestant threads I could have sworn I doubled up on those two. Now everything's making sense

dflem, you're a dork! That being said, I give you mad props and many thanks for getting this place set up. (I had to beg folks!)

cheermama I am so glad you are here and another self-proclaimed reality tv junky and fellow TiVo/DVR owner. We are going to have so many threads to run into each other with and I'm also excited to see that you too are a "cheer" mama. I missed the Biggest Loser last night because of Cheerleading!!!

AS far as this season's premier goes, here are my comments:

Amanda - Will only get better once she overcomes her shyness.
Michelle - I don't know about more talented, but she's definitely more confident. I bet that comes from her sports background.
Jaeda - I don't remember her and that's says a LOT!
A.J. - Where the heck did the shyness/lack of confidence come from? She got nothing but praise from the photographers, etc. I like her, but I'm not buying the whole lack of self-esteem crap. :no
CariDee- It's funny that you see Lisa, because I see Brittany!
Megan - I liked Evita better than this girl (more on Evita later).
Monique - I hope that Tyra can use the same tactics on her that she used on Eva because I think this girl could go all the way. I see more Tiffany in her and see her walking at some point!
Anchal - I LOVE me some Anchal! She's my Covergirl pick of the week! I would kill for those eyes! I wonder if they are classifying her as "plus size"?
Melrose - I like Melrose and thought the name change was clever and fit her personality to a "T". I loved that she had the meltdown at the end of the shoot and especially at panel. I was wondering if she was going to maintain her diva status.
Megg - So not feeling her yet. Maybe next week. :D
Eugena - She's right up there with Anchal for me as well, but there's something missing.

Evita (mom of 2 w/ hubby in Iraq). As a single mom of two, I had to fight back initial feelings about her rationale for being there with an infant still on the bottle at home. She couldn't wait for the next cycle? What irked me the most was her sense of entitlement because she "gave up the most" to be there?! :oooo Somebody's priorities are a little out of whack! The gal that gave up her senior year "gave up" the most. Evita just gave up on her "belief in family" diatribe.

I don't know, I think it got a little boring. I guess it was just too long. It was funny seeing those girls try to act those poses though!

Gosh, there are all of these lovely cheerleading mamas here - where were y'all when I was coaching? All I had were the crazies!

Here's my take on this week ...

First of all, why did they have to get nude before they even got into the house? That irked me. I'd rather see someone stand up for their beliefs, especially after Tyra had a coronary about modeling being compared to stripping. Now, I know that what they were doing wasn't anywhere near jumping onto a pole (by that I mean, please don't attack me - I get the difference) but I don't see why you can't be a top model without baring your body on television. That's right - not in some classy editorial mag in Europe, but on television. Okay, I'm done now.

As for the girls, here's my two cents:

Melrose: love her. And the name thing. And I think that they overstated her attitude a bit. First of all, what a stupid reward for the first photo shoot. Second, she should've been more contrite instead of glibly offering excuses, but unless there was more they didn't show, it wasn't that bad.

Monique: hate her. Pictures are only okay, but they could be stellar and I wouldn't want her personality around. Sorry you didn't get a bed, honey, but nobody owes you anything, even if your childhood was rough.

Caridee: I agree with the Brittnay comparison, FG - I like her a lot.

Michelle and Amanda: looking forward to see what they can do, but Michelle's picture was way, way better and it just makes me realize how much it's going to suck when one leaves and the other's there - should make for good tv, though! :P

Brooke: I might like her - haven't decided completely. As far as the blonde girl-next-door thing, there was another semi-finalist that I liked better, but now I can't remember her name. Not the super-conservative one, but the other one. Anyway, I wish that girl was on.

All in all ... I'm looking forward to it!

Could there be any more "Tyra" in this show? She is way too full of herself. That drama thing was so bad, I felt ashamed for her. Did anyone else get this vibe from her? WAAAAY to big for her britches.

jlyl - September 22, 2006 10:59 PM (GMT)
I agree, Squish - and btw, what was that accent she was throwing around? I didn't get it ....

Yes, she is. What with ANTM showing more of her antics like that shouting, and her talk show, I think she is turning into Oprah--very overexposed and entire personality consisting of, "Look at Me!!!!! I have the answer to all that is wrong in your life!!"

On another note, every season of this show has had a shoot where you had to get naked. In some seasons, it was right away and in others it was later on. Whay are people getting on this show if they don't want to take their clothes off? Did they not see the previous seasons? I can understand not wanting to do nudity in any form, but I can't see how anyone is not prepared for having to do it on this show. Same thing for the makeover episode. Somebody's gonna be shocked that they are expected to drastically change their appearance and they are going to go crazy.

jlyl - September 25, 2006 06:52 PM (GMT)
good to see you again, girlchefj! I agree with you about the makeover thing - they do it EVERY season! Plus, hair grows, so I don't get that bent out of shape over it, but I guess these are people who sort of have all of their eggs in the beauty basket, so to speak.

I'll have to disagree with you a bit on the nudity part, though - I really don't think that they've done it every season. In fact, I can only think of one other time that they wanted the girls to take all of their clothes off, and that was quite awhile ago. I can't remember exactly what season, but I think that it was for a photo shoot with diamonds and that there were two girls that didn't do it but still didn't get eliminated. Of course, there have always been skimpy outfits, but I really think that it's different.

Squishybut - September 25, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
I think their was a naked paint episode, where their bodies were painted, but they were nude. Wasn't there?
I think there has been a nude shoot in each season. Do you remember in season 2 where the girls got waxed before the swimsuit shoot? Ouch! I want more of that reality! Not over dramatic Tyra.

funnygirl - September 26, 2006 07:51 PM (GMT)
You forgot the first shoot in Cycle 3(?) where they were airbrushing costumes on the girls and the one "mom" (Anna) wouldn't do it because she didn't want anybody but her husband to see her or something like that.
