Title: Rock Star: Superno"blah"
Description: 9/5 Recap

dfleminator - September 6, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
lpatrick: Rock Star fans, it's that time again. Dflem, are you ready for your Tuesday night fix of cover songs and some originals thrown in the mix??? It's gone by so fast and we are down to the final five.

Dfleminator: We'll soon see if I'm ready... I'm still a little bothered by Ryan's elimination last week, but I'll try to push through.

lpatrick: Back at the mansion, we see Dilana continue to beat herself up about her "bottom three" performance. She said it was the worst of her life. Well, the good news is that it can only get better from here, right. :oooo

Dfleminator: I'm not liking this Dilana. I wish she would snap out of it, and go back to being the Dilana from the first part of the season.

lpatrick: This week's clinic is songwriting with Gilby. For some reason we only see Gilby comment on three of the remaining five. Gilb was totally impressed with Toby and his energy. He said that Lukas showed up in Lukas fashion, being less than prepared with only a verse and chorus. Gilby said that Dilana doesn't have an imagination when it comes to songwriting.

Dfleminator: I thought it was funny that someone who must have helped write that "fabulous" tune where the chorus goes "so get your hey hey hey, get your ho ho ho" could possibly talk about someone else not having an imagination when it comes to songwriting... but hey, that's just me.

lpatrick: We're in for a treat tonight. Not only will we hear some "new" cover songs, each of the remaining five will perform an original. Whatca think about that Dflem?!?

Dfleminator: I'm not sure what I think. I wish I could hear another Ryan original. Overall, I'm not enthusiastic about hearing original songs, and I never have been. They will really have to wow me with their song in order for me to enjoy it.

lpatrick: Dilana has the first spot tonight. She's being carried on stage by a very large man. Is this part of the act?? No, Dilana tore her calf muscle during rehearsal. Ouch. She starts her set with The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes." She did a great job singing the song. It's hard to get up and perform with a torn muscle....oh, I spoke to soon. She's up and rockin' with her original, "Super Soul." I think she's a great singer, but I don't remember the original that much. I hate to say that because I love this girl. Dave agreed with me that she sang great but it wasn't his favorite original. Tommy is ready to box Dave because the thought the original was bangin.

Dfleminator: I didn't care much for either performance this week. I wish that she would just move on. She keeps talking about how she's moving on, and yet every week she makes reference to her "drama". I really like Dilana, but she needs to get out of this funk that she's in if she wants to remain in this competition.

lpatrick: Back from a commerical break we have news that Supernova has sold out their New Year's Eve performance. But don't fret, they've put tickets for their New Year's Day show on sale now. Yipppeee. The really cool thing is that the house band will be their opening act and there is supposed to be some of our favorite rocker from this season making an apperance.

Dfleminator: Who wants to lay bets that they won't ask Ryan to join them?

lpatrick: Ok ok, back to the show. It's time for the Iceman to show us what he's got this week. Magni's first song is "Back in the USSR" by the Beatles. I thought he sounded very good. I felt a new energy to his voice. Maybe being top dog last week helped give him that extra confidence boost. Magni's original is "When the time comes," and it rocked. He did a great job on lyrics and the house band nailed it. Dave said he was "molten hot Magni." (We've got to watch Dave giving these nicknames... there are some really missing the Dark Horse.) :O He also agrees with me about there being more aggression in his voice. Tommy commented that the performance of the Beatles song and Magni's original was the exact same. Magni says, "That's because I sang both of them." I loved it. :) Gilby has to chime in that he understands what Tommy is saying, that Magni needed to change it up a little but I disagree. He's got a great style. Why go and mess with that?

Dfleminator: Ok, now I have to admit that the Beatles were a little bit before my time, but I have never once heard his first song, and I wish I could still say that today. I honestly think it's a terrible song. He did ok with it, but overall, I wasn't as blown away as lpatrick was with him.

lpatrick: Storm will perform another Bowie song. I think she keeps picking Bowie because she knows that he's one of Tommy's favorites. She will sing "Suffragette City," and Dave is going to perform with her. Camera pans to Dilana and someone is not a happy girl tonight. Maybe it's just that muscle injury. Nope, I see a little green envy around the edges. They did a great job together and Dave didn't upstage her. Next we have her original and it's called "Ladylike." All I remember is the "What the what." She sounded good but the lyrics were hmmm, it just made me think of Courtney Love the "whole" time... and that's not good. Dave said that he had been on stage with some great front people and said it felt just like that. Tommy called her triple extra large and Gilby thought it was great.

Dfleminator: What on earth is Dave doing up there on stage? This is not, and should not be his show. I hate that. Anyway, moving on I wasn't blown away by her first song, and I absolutely hated the verses to her original song. I enjoyed her chorus, but I can't understand Dave saying that it was the best original song he'd heard on both seasons. Ryan's was far better.

lpatrick: Lukas is singing :oooo Bon Jovi's "Livin' On a Prayer." He starts and all he does is mumble and then there is more mumbling, with his lips practically wrapped around the mike. Finally he decides to sing and he sounds good, not great. The original is called "Headspin." I have liked Lukas in the past but Gilby needs to talk to him about lack of imagination in songwriting. The song was so simple. However, Supernova and Dave seemed to really like it. Not this gal, not tonight.

Dfleminator: I have to agree with you on this one lpatrick. This guy bored me with his rendition of Livin' on a Prayer. I thought it was awful, and I couldn't believe that he was this far in the competition. I remember thinking he was a frontrunner in the first week, but he's fallen hard in my opinion. Neither song was done all that well.

lpatrick: Toby closes the show tonight with The Killer's "Mr. Brightside." His voice keeps growing and growing on me. Plus, he's having fun and that counts for alot. His original is called "Throw It Away," and he rocked it. I think he had the best original by far this evening. He always brings the energy level up during his performances. Dave and Supernova agreed with me on this one.

Dfleminator: I really didn't like Mr. Brightside, and found it quite boring. However, I absolutely loved his original song. It was quite honestly the only performance that I enjoyed of this whole episode, and I was glad it was wrapping up an otherwise crappy episode.

lpatrick: As Rock Star comes to a close, the order of voting has Toby first, followed by Lukas, Magni, Storm, and finally Dilana. It's still early and we know it can all change by tomorrow's elimination show.

Dfleminator: Well, I can't say I'm all that surprised with that listing. I think that unless Dilana gets herself out of her funk, she's gone tonight, otherwise, it could be Lukas or Storm who leave tonight.

lpatrick: Ok, on a very sad note for me, this will be my last time in the studio with dflem. Next week I have to put on my dancing shoes and get over to Dancing with the Stars. I will pop back in so that I can see what's going on. I can't wait to see who gets the gig. I really want to thank all the good people here in the Rock Star thread. You all have been so great with your comments and love for music. My new show is a little different, but I hope to see you all over there dancing with me!!! You guys truly ROCK!!! Much love and peace to you all.

Dfleminator: I'll miss you around here lpatrick! Hopefully I can still get recaps out even without you on my back to get it done every night! Best of luck with your new show, and I know I speak for all our members saying thank you for the fun, and we'll all miss you!
