Please discuss tonight's show here. :)

Dilana is doing major, major damage control. I can see her in the bottom 3 this week. I think Storm and Magni will join her. Even though Magni rocked the hell out of the place. He will be a huge star, but not with this band.

I don't see it as that bad considering some of the things/people Tommy has said/done. I just don't see it as a huge deal whatsoever, and I'm glad she's moving on.
I thought Ryan was absolutely spectacular, and I can't see Dilana being in the bottom three tonight. Ryan was my favorite performance of the season, and I think that Dilana's was possibly my second favorite. I can't get over the fact that I hated Ryan at the beginning of the season

NO way will Dilana be in bottom 3 with that performance. I agree with Dflem :O about Tommy's past actions.
I thought Ryan was fabulous too. :O Holy COW D!! The planets must be in alignment and Armageddon is near.

Again, is the entire musical catalog of this show relegated to about 20 songs? I don't care if you call it "Audience Choice," it's an extremely limited choice of the same old stuff that's been done before.
You would think the guys need to hear some vocals that closely translate to what they're looking for, such as Stone Sour, Temple of the Dog, Godsmack, Three Days Grace, Black Stone Cherry, Voivod, etc.
Given last night was another series of repeat songs, you would expect nothing but the best. Sorry, but Lukas Rossi is becoming very mundane, does not change and has gone way past being just plain hard to listen to. The voice is as grating and annoying now as it was the first night. I don't think I've ever heard a singer overpronounce/mispronounce/falsely accentuate words as much as he does. I had a hard time understanding his lyrics although I do know them.
Magni is as solid as ever and contrary to what some other folks may believe, I think he's a great fit for the band. He has never missed anything on the show and is the most consistently solid singer of the remaining six.
Storm is leaving tonite, but don't blame last night's performance as she again displayed a tremendous voice. She'll be big soon and I wouldn't be surprised if she already has some offers on the table.
Ryan again cracks his voice at the end of a song attempting to finish on a gutteral yell. Ryan will be gone next week... but with 2 weeks left, one of these nights will be 2-for-1 and we'll narrow it down to the final 3. As Jason accurately pointed out, Ryan does appear to need some type of buffer between him and the edge of the stage- he just doesn't perform as well when he's out there for everyone to see.
Toby is my front-runner as of last night. Although the song "choice" was again predictable and lame, by the end of the performance I was laughing out loud as he made it work with the girls onstage and the audience participation.
Dilana Smith has gone through a transformation of sorts and it seems to have emanated from her disclosure regarding her relationship with Mom following the last performance of "Mother, Mother." She was on top of her game last night with a very good performance of another 'second chance' choice.
Top 3: Magni, Toby, Dilana
Bottom 3: Lukas, Storm, Ryan

SNAP! Take two: RS:SN comment 29 Aug 2006:
Indeed! The finalists once again stepped it up; it was an excellent evening of entertainment. These remaining folks are talented individuals who are no longer auditioning for the contemporaneous band gig; they are performing for themselves, and for their audiences who may join them. I am very much appreciating the view from here.
Lest we are mistaken about which band is actually running this show: it's House. It is understood that House has contracted to accompany the partyboat on its cruising tour. In My World (and I have no idea, really), I would invite House to select several Top Ten contestants to complement them. And, in My World, I would deem those selecteds to be untouchable, ineligible for the "top" prize. In My World, those selecteds would be grateful, indeed.
In My World, House's top pick? --- must be Magni. He so superbly fits the Real band's feel and chemistry: witness last week's wonderful guitar pairing on elim night. He's charismatic, he's equally proficient with vocals and instruments, and he's irreverent --- the very trait that makes him not quite right with SN. I, Alone was outstanding.
House's next picks? --- In My World, it would be great fun to pick the Storm/Toby exacta, offering up the prospect for duets in addition to their fine individual/solo skills. They were very good together last night, and good apart --- stage-sharing credibly during Storm's front-and-centre time. [This concept, of course, is entirely anathema to Lady Dil, so she said with OK Corral guns ablazin'.]
I wholeheartedly am NOT in the Gilby camp that suggests Toby upstaged Big Red. Vocals were delightfully paired, and they both winced visibly when Gilby made his inaccurate and unfounded comments that Toby stole Storm's light. In his dimly-veiled attempt to make it appear that her departure has not been pre-ordained, he has managed to telegraph it so spectacularly. He's a hollow one with many tells, that Gilby, and he's henceforth lost any remaining cred with me. Chopper is the best he has to share with us. If his be the Sober Voice of Reason, then please pass that Prosecco on over here, would you mind? Thunder and Lightning: I thought they were a fine and caring pair.
Of Toby: how clever for him to show House the demographic he'd attract and bring along --- that palpably impressionable variety! Those young gals had no idea to what dance they had been invited. Having excitedly done a Jill on our performer, they nonetheless then displayed their youthful fickleness: gleefully accepting TLee's off-handed reference to the afterparty... careful, rawk-collectors, and recall your own precious resources...
Of Ryan: what is to be made of our Steinway junglegymnast? From hooded, furry creature of the forest floor one week to slithering and bounding (both!) dweller of the ebony canopy this week. Unlike the anticipation that would swell for Zayra's weekly performance change-ups, I have no such interest in learning what critter Ryan will channel next.
Dare I agree with SN that Ryan is better off when shielded behind large, stationary obstacles like pianos? Indeed, in this case, I will: to paraphrase Jason, he is very distracting while moving awkwardly about the stage, and I'm dead-certain to lose the plot thread of his tiny musical novella.
However, I'm equally disappointed by his mere vocal gymnastics alone. That Ryangutan: swinging wildly from octave to octave and back. I am professing my disinterest in Ryan's musicality, and hence my indifference to what I would expect to be his own jungle-clear-cutting exercise, this week or next. Rather amusing, though, that image of the shaggy, long-armed, tailless arboreal creature, perched atop the piano... perhaps my final memory...
In My World, House would most certainly not select Ryan for the tour. And they said as much: that he micromanages the rehearsals and the playlist. They are very generous, those House banders.
Z as a surprise guest in the occasional city? --- who wouldn't be greatly amused and entertained by that! Especially since, in My World, I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to prepare differently had I known of her appearance --- but I'll imagine I might look twice more in the mirror, in the event she looked my way...
So... who else NOT to be recruited for House? --- Dilana and Lukas. As it was in the beginning, is now, and apparently, ever shall be... They are destined to be the finalists for the SN tryst. And they delivered two tremendous bookending performances for last evening's episode.
Of Dilana: With fork-tongued guitar to complement her temperment, that gal's a little troubled and oh-so-very talented. Mother, Mother --- I want mine, too; she was that good. The quality of mercy is not strained, indeed. She's Purgatory incarnate, which makes her perfectly qualified for the SNers.
Of Lukas: He's mastered that Jagger-swagger, on and off the stage. He's himself. I'm heading to the Rosedale Valley Bridge in search of other talented trolls just like him. The were-Lukas: he alternated well better his "secret" and growly voices. Most men wish to learn his dance moves. right. away. The SN team is displaying unbridled adoration for him: they must have him, it appears, and even Jason climbed aboard last night. For those in the Lukas camp, they are building with hot lava that he was B3 in early postings at the show's close: and that's lava of excitement, mind you, frothing at the mere prospect that he might perchance perform an additional tune this week. Anything he chooses. Just perform.

BIF, just wanted to say that I enjoyed reading that.

Saddened to be at my office while the results show is on.
Cheered to be catching up on my non-professional reading --- like ART.
Very thoughtful of you to say, FO&B. I wrote similar sentiments earlier today, but the online dog literally gobbled my efforts. I fear I did not make sufficient revisions in this version to adequately convince our new friend, anybodyhome, that Lukas might have a glass shard of appeal to some... [Cheers, anybody, on your views these past weeks as well!]
Caught your post, too, lurking under lpat's and dflem's good recap... How cool that you, too, are digging the interaction among the supernovices on stage. Indeed, that sharing exercise is one of my favourite aspects of the episodes --- and I'll add to your list the one where Magni shared the "I don't belong here" line with his fellow B3ers.
And, one last thing: my hoodie is backordered, perhaps? or no longer in production? no sign of it here, I'm afraid.
Shall flip over to the results show thread shortly, perchance to catch a few early posts about tonight's show.
Cheers to all; till tomorrow.

Lukas has grown on me quite a bit despite my best efforts to resist. I even find him, dare I say it, likable.
Just have to say that "In My World" our surviving six (though I write this after a certain someone has been cut) would start their own band.
I hope all is well.
Urbangirl - August 31, 2006 02:18 AM (GMT)
Well I feel like I have been away for ever....Missed chatting last week as I was busy icing a Dora The Explorer cake for little Miss Urbangirl's 3rd Birthday!!.
Again I am trying not to look at the elimination results......only 8hours and 20 minutes till the show starts here. :cry
I had a few favourite moments in last nights show:
Ryan - I loved the way that he started off slow then bounced up on to the piano. I felt that his performance was kinda like Billy Joel crossed with Zayra :O
The other fav was Toby  (and that is not just the little Aussie in me coming out.) I was not sure how he was going to go doing yet another Billy Idol song. (I was a little afraid that he would be stereo-typed.) I was pleasantly surprised and loved the way that he got those girls on stage. I am sure that they all went home a little warmer :bounce At to laugh to at TLee inviting them back and tem gleefully accepting, then Toby suggesting they check ID's. Too funny.
My guess is that Ryan will sing with SN tonight and the bottom three: Storm, Magni and Toby :O
Well, who am I kidding? I am going to pop on over and see who got the chop! (Then bet Mr Urbangirl the washing up chores tonight on who goes!!)
