I'm running the studio tonight without dfleminator. Ahhh, the power!!! And who said chicks can't rock?
Really, who said it?!? You'll be missed tonight dflem. It won't be the same show without you. With that said...let's rock!!! Last week Zarya was eliminated and had to take her flashy waredrobe home. I think Jason will be the only one that will realize she's gone. Can Patrice "bring it" tonight and save herself from another bottom three performance? On with the show:
There are only three weeks and seven contestants left until Supernova has a singer. They show a little of Dilana's performance with the band last week. Lukas said he would have loved to have been up there and Storm was a little jealous (but happy for Dilana).
This week the seven will get to fight it out for two original songs. Everyone wants it. Storm starts saying that she's going to put on gloves and start boxing for an original. Magni, trying to be the voice of reason, says that since Patrice has been in the bottom three so often she should get one of the originals. He thinks she's earned it. The last original is left to Ryan and Storm to decide who gets it. He doesn't want to hear any more of the boxing talk from her. Storm sees the Aerosmith song, "Cryin'," knows it difficult and takes it. Storm later comments that she has once again rolled over and didn't fight for what she wanted. Ryan will do his original. Toby has "Every Breath You Take," (Police) and Dilana really wants it. He reminds her that last time he had to run around the pool naked. Will she do it for the song she wants? That she does... and in all her naked glory, Dilana does the streak around the pool as Toby laughs that he didn't really want that song. :laugh
Dave intros a new member of Supernova, Chopper, Gilby's dog. Why he brought his dog to the competition I'm not sure. :oooo I guess it's the rock star thing to do. Dave talks to the contestants starting with Storm about her once again giving in (there must be a pattern here). Ryan thinks his original will be right for Supernova. Patrice is confident in her songwriting.
(That's great honey, but can you bring it when it's time to perform this week?)Patrice is up first with her original, "Beautiful Thing." lpatrick: I loved that she had normal hair tonight. It didn't distract me. I thought the vocals where good but the song and performance was a little too catchy for this band. However, I loved the house band on this song. They kicked it. Dave thought she brought it but he gave her the same advice as Zayra, that if this is the type of music she wants to perform she would be better as a solo artist. Tommy thought it was cool but too happy for the band, but said they could take care of that and make it heavier.
Magni performs Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." lpatrick: I love Nirvana and remember when this song was released way back when. At first I didn't think he was going to do the song justice. Then he kicked it up a notch and nailed it. He's got good "grit" to his voice. Dave thought it was awesome and commented that he can deliever the angst when needed. Jason thought the enegry was great. Tommy asked why he didn't play guitar? Magni didn't want to be tied to it and the guys reminded he could smash it. Dave said he wanted to see something get broken soon.
Ryan has his chance to perform his original titled, "Back of your car." He's also going to be playing the guitar during his song.
(Who wants to bet he's gonna do some smashing?) lpatrick: He rocked out this song. I think there's a future rock star in development. He really seems to be improving week to week. This song fits Supernova better than Patrice's. Close to the end, he throws the guitar. I would have been ok with this if it hadn't been for the fact that the band gave this advice to Magni just a moment ago. :suspicious I felt it was a cheap move. Dave asks where the heck
(No, Dave didn't say heck) did this guy come from?! He's going to keep calling him the "Dark Horse." Tommy thought Ryan looked his most comfortable and Gilby said it was his best performance.
Storm, looking great tonight, is ready to perform Aerosmith's, "Cryin'." lpatrick: This was my very favorite vocal performance from her. She did miss a high note but only Steven Tyler will ever be able to get that one. Dave thinks she was a thousand times better than the disco fiasco of last week. Tommy thought it was cool and mentioned something about less clothes.
(Come on Tommy, she's not Zarya. You guys gave that up last week.) Gilby thinks she handles challenges well but wants something extra special. Jason thought she made it her own.
Dilana is up with "Every Breath You Take," by the Police. lpatrick: I'll be singing this all day tomorrow. The girl rocks. She went high, she went low... I don't know what this gal can't do. Dave liked her eyelashes. Gilby thinks her instincts are so good that she keeps picking the right song. I don't think she could pick a bad song. I think she could have done the disco song last week and been fine. Dave and Tommy discuss having song selection at their pool next week with all the nudity contest going on for a song. Jason asks why she would run naked for this song and Dilana get personal saying that she hasn't spoken with her mother for awhile and this was one of her favorite songs. It was a bittersweet performance for her. Jason comments that he could feel the emotion.
Toby performs "Layla," by Derek and the Dominos (ok... let's just say Eric Clapton). lpatrick: This is a heavier version of the original and it was cool. Toby rocked it and put on a good performance. And the shirt comes off. Dave calls him "Thunder from Down Under." He thought it was very entertaining. He also asks about the EVS written on Toby's chest and he fills us all in that it means "whatever." Gilby thought Toby took a risk. He didn't like the arrangement but thought the performance was amazing.
And last this week is Lukas singing "All these things I've done," by the Killers. lpatrick: I think this was a good song for him but I wasn't wow'd tonight. He did the back turning thing again. If I pay to see a performance, sing to me, not the band. Dave thought it was great. Tommy asked for the check please. Gilby said he had great energy but called him out on the back turning. Lukas said he also wanted to perform for the band he was playing with for two minutes.
(I'm not buying it.)All and all a good show. Personally I think they should give them some really difficult songs like Storm had last week with "I will survive." This way we could see what they really can do with something that might not feel comfortable. :)
Before the end of the show we find that Patrice, Storm and Toby are in the bottom three. I'm sure that will change several times before the voting ends. Ok, I've tried not to let the power go to my head too much. Dfleminator will be back on mike #1 next week. I'm looking forward to it and I know you guys are too. Until then,
Layla, that
Beautiful Thing, is
Cryin' in the
Back of Your Car counting
Every Breath You Take while she
Smells Like Teen Spirit and thinks about
All the things I've done. Good night all. See you tomorrow for the results. B)
