Title: ART Talk - 08/22 Rock Star Supernova

There was a show tonight and it's here that you guys talk about it.

Was it on too late for everyone last night?
I watched, but couldn't stay up to discuss it. I thought it was a pretty good show. Patrice did much better, but still was the worst of the night. I absolutely LOVED Ryan's song, and Dilana did awesome, as usual. Toby did well with his song, and I laughed so hard when he told Dilana to run around the pool naked, even though he didn't want the song. I also really enjoyed Magni. Storm was ok, but not my favorite, and I wasn't a big fan of Lukas either, but I think Patrice is going home.

You're right, Patrice performed her original, which was a little 90s pop; she'll be packing her bags tonite.
Ryan seems to be morphing into some new person, but his personality remains pretty non-existant and boring. I just don't see him fronting the band.
Dilana took a pretty boring song, "Every Breath You Take," and did it very well. She is definitely a force to be reckoned with and may very well take the competition.
I actually liked what Toby did with "Layla." I think he is also seriously in the running not necessarily for his raw singing talent, but because his voice is suited to the band.
Magni took another boring song (I'm really getting tired of the Nirvana, Coldplay stuff) and performed it exceptionally well, as he always does.
Are you kidding me- Storm took an unbelievably difficult song and performed it without a hitch. Navarro was right, put any song in front of her and she'll do it her way and make is sound good.
Lukas... yawn... same ol' stuff, same vocals, same act, same performance. It's becoming tiresome. I just don't see me enduring a 2 hour show listening to that vocal delivering tune after tune. He just doesn't change it up enough. There is the occasional tune where you actually hear his voice and not the garbage disposal, but I certainly couldn't listen to that all night.
Frontrunners: Dilana, Toby, Magni

Ryan isn't changing so much as becoming more comfortable or confident. What people see as being new or different has always been a part of him. One simply cannot show or see everything at once. There is depth to him and the others who sing with intensity that Patrice lacks.

In general, the SN trio is doing little to curry favour with me, I'm afraid, on both performance and character fronts. After the band's debut track flamed out in galactic fashion last week, the SN ship threw up its deflector shield and undoubtedly encouraged Dilana to raise a little hell at the press gig. Overheard: "That might hold off the critics of our tune until our next diversion."
That leads DaveN/SN to "deliver" on their promise to provide guest appearances this season. Consequently, we are introduced to Chopper, a gracefully-aging cutie that presumably has had all of its shots, thusly immunized in preparation for its casting-couch episode with TLee at the end of this week's show. Yours to identify the bacterial donor from the recipient in that playful pairing. Very sweet, really, and I'd welcome a pooch just like him. [ChopperDog, not HatchetMan.]
For the band's sake, that SN track better be pretty cosmistellar tonight. I'm merely curious about it at this stage, like a small one staring up at the heavens with no clue what to look for; I am not at all filled with specific anticipation for this second effort.
No one has yet made mansion-based comments? Dilana, fully cognizant of her "strengths", studiously does not engage in the original song tussle. Storm, on the other hand, lends a new meaning to "fight song"; Ryan declines to engage her, preferring to act outside the box.
Indeed, the only gloves that are on (after all) belong to Lukas --- worn masterfully as his constellation once again ascends in SN's eyes. They love this fellow: TLee's "Cheque, please" was perfectly clear.
I'll respectfully differ from the posters here, because I think Lady Dil is somewhat in retrograde. She is being edited that way. Red herring? --- it's possible.
We learn that Zayra left a Bjork knockoff at the mansion, it not being up to Z's own higher standard. Dil, still not realizing you can't untell anyone anything and choosing to mentally set aside her press corps indiscretions, proudly struts in it --- and may have successfully distracted some from what I thought was a less-than-top notch performance from her. Talk about same moves, same voice (as some have suggested similarly of other contestants). And the lashes didn't fool me. She doesn't bat her eyes at much, that one. And she's honestly not batting quite as high with me of late, either. She's still a strong contender, and if you believe she was/is the front-runner, then she has now left room for others to catch and/or eclipse her.
Lukas: he may have faced the band for a bit --- and I think that Nate, Sasha et al kicked it up even further when he did, by the way --- but I found I could not turn away. And how delicious was his "professional or punk" comment: supreme irony and very appropos.
Patrice: has fully tabled her hand by this point, and no secrets remain in her repetoire. She acquitted herself fairly well and with dignity throughout, and should be the one to begin her solo career tonight, as DaveN counsels.
On Ryan's guitar-tossing: could this have been a nasty pre-empt by Navarro, who may indeed have known that Ryan was planning that move all along? When DaveN made his comment to Magni, the other contestants (including Ryan) were immediately and nervously set abuzz on the rocker pod. Overheard: "What are you going to do now, man?"
Brooke: looking lovely and slower and gentler in her Way --- and just in time, now that Z and her garb are no longer around to upstage her! The contestants already treat her physically with more care when they share her stage, and that's a pleasant thing to see. Good fun that Storm gave her a Bwak Bwak reference after her perf. Lukas just checked her out, like always. Funny!
All in, last evening's show was another highly enjoyable summer hour; if only the SN band didn't leave me feeling rather unmoved...

Dilana is still my favorite, IMO, I think she would be a great lead for the band, especially after seeing her perform with them last week. Lukas just annoys me more and more every week. To me it seems like he is trying to copy JD's bad ways from last year, but he is failing at it.

Take a quick notice at where the camera drifts when Dilana is performing- cut to Lukas- look at that, the guy is sweating bullets!
kimb - August 23, 2006 10:59 PM (GMT)
Of course he is, because Lukas knows that Dilana is way better than he is, and he could never beat her.
FatOld&Bald - August 23, 2006 11:05 PM (GMT)
I'm not Lukas' biggest fan and I find him annoying too, but I watched his performance again today. I can't deny that he is talented and capable. He's young yet. Give him time.

I with you FOB. I have liked a few of Lukas' performances but he's got to stop turning his back and just sing.
I think Dilana has the competition, however if she doesn't lead the band I think her CD would outsale Supernova's.
