Please discuss Treasure Hunters finale here! Who will be the first to "unlock" the treasure? What did you think of the show? And will there be a second season? :)

The Geniuses are three million dollars richer tonight. Good for them. Did you call it Bored? :) It's nice these guys will have some money to follow their dreams of becoming doctors and will help their families.
I was a little disappointed by the finale. The show was really over when they found the gold at the half hour mark. However, it was nice to catch up with some of the former teams. I was not really interested in the on-line $10,000 winners on a mini-hunt for a $100,000 prize. But when Scott, who lost his job and has a little baby won, he cried, his wife cried, heck I cried.
So what did you all think about the finale?

Hey, I'm new here! :)
I've been a pretty big fan of TH since the beginning, but I was dissapointed that Air Force didn't win in. :cry I'm with the Southie Boys, though -- I would have been there for weeks!
I hope that Laird is not around for the next round. He was TERRIBLE during the finale. Especially when everyone was congratulating the winners and he kept demanding they "join" him. He's just as wooden as Chenbot from Big Brother -- no personality at all. They would have been better off bringing in a celebrity to host the reunion, a la the first few seasons of Survivor.
The biggest problem was mostly that they did the finale in 1 hour. They should have pushed back the episodes so that there was about 45 minutes in the factory/crypt, and then 45 minutes - an hour of the "treasure challenge" and the reunion/talking part. They tried to squeeze in too much to an hour. This contributed to Laird's pushy and overzealous performance, as he cut off most of the contestants while they were answering. (Although, in fairness, it didn't appear that any of them had been briefed before hand to keep their answers to questions as short as possible.)
I also agree with LPatrick about not caring all that much about the treasure challenge people. Thus, my reason for thinking they should have given it a little more time where we could get to know those contestants.
3 mil is quite a prize for a reality show. Go geniuses. Couldn't have happened to a dorkier bunch ;)

Welcome to ART PandemicSoul. I hope you stick around even though TH is over. I tried :shifty to stay a little objective since I did most of the recapping but I too was pulling for an Air Force win.
3 mil is alot for a reality show, however it's not alot in today's world. Don't get me wrong, 1 mil would change my family's life but these guys were talking about helping their grandparents and parents retire, and then going to med school. Maybe if they invest wisely, but after taxes, it might pay for med school.

Yeah, no kidding. You'll end up with $700k a piece, at most. If I were Francis, I would have demanded 40% of the prize. Sam was mostly worthless throughout the entire challenge, and Charles was a complete jerk. Just the fact that Sam slept through most of the last few hours was worth cutting him 10% from the prize! :P
The stupid thing about all this is that these guys ALL should have known where to look for the answer. Every single challenge they've pretty much been carrying the answer to the challenge. Here too, the book was the answer -- Francis Scott Key. Now granted, "FSKey" is SERIOUSLY obscure, but just going by precident, Air Force should not have staked too much on their surroundings (the "star" theory) and should have been thinking more about what the book could tell them.
In the end, I'm not displeased with the winners. I would have been happy with any of the three. Just wish that the best team, AF, had walked away with it ;)
I wouldn't mind seeing this show again. I think the premise is really admirable, since so few people are "excited" about history.

I have to say this...I called it before the show started last night. We were sitting around the dinner table discussing what the final word could be and I blurted out that it had something to do with Francis Scott Key becuase they keep mentioning him...thought for a second and, DUH, FSKey...my teenager was amazed that I figured it out. Then again, I wasn't in a hot chamber with 8 other people trying to figure it out at the same time. My competition was a 17 year old and a 9 year old. ;)

I never expected that the Geniuses would have won. IMO, for Geniuses, they were pretty dumb, and I agree, Sam was the most useless of the whole bunch. Charles was always yelling at all of them. I was hoping for either the Southie Boys or Air Force, either were more deserving, IMO.
I hope that they have a second Treasure Hunters, I enjoyed it.

Great to see you in here kimb. I agree that I hope they do a second season. I loved that they dealt with American history.
Kudos funnygirl for coming up with FSKey. I never even came close to that as the code.
Charles worked my last nerve with the way he spoke to everyone, especially his team mates. Maybe he can buy some bedside manner before he becomes a doctor.

I actually liked Charles :O I don't know why, I think it was a mixture of the fact that he didn't whine and that he seemed to enjoy the race because of more than the chance to win money. He was really into it. Francis was my favorite Genius by far, however. Sam was OK, but the whining in the swamp was really getting annoying.

Bored... I don't even know what to say to you about liking Charles. I think he's rude. I did like Francis. Sam whined alot, but when it counted, he was there for the team.
