Jeff Buckley meets Freddie Mercury? Though you probably never thought you'd hear such a unique merging, this is exactly how mega evocative, ultra versatile and vocally gifted singer songwriter Lukas Rossi has been described.
The distinction has served him well during his 15 years in the world of music. Lukas has recorded, written, produced and played with his own band, the incredibly popular Cleavage, as well as co-written, sung and gigged with various Canadian bands, including Papa Roach, I Mother, Tea Party, Edwin and Big Wreck. He also took on the impressive opportunity of working with producer and Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, as well as and Jay and John Levine from the Philosopher Kings and Prozac.
You would think that would be enough for any rocker on the rise, but not for Lukas. Proving to be a natural talent as well as a hard worker, after acquiring a publishing deal with EMI Music Canada in 2004, Lukas worked and wrote with producer Dave Tyson (Alana Miles & Amanda Marshall) in Los Angeles. After that, he recorded demos with producer Gavin Brown (Billy Talent, Three Days Grace), leading to the formation of the band Rise Electric.
His own personal work, tenacious talent, able contributions and general musical know-how have served Lukas well and, as such, he has elicited the attention of both fans and major label interest. From that, he's had several showcases in New York City for Atlantic Records and Arista.
But with Lukas, there's always more. A notable, soulful standout all his own, Lukas also contributes vocal work for television and radio, singing on national ad campaigns (including McDonald's) and even animated cartoons during which he sings the intro song to the shows "Rescue Heroes" and "Beyblade."
Phew! That's a lot of work. And respect. Lukas' credentials, experience and finally, magnetism make for a performer as exceptional as he sounds. |

Don't get me wrong, I ended up wanting JD to get the job in the worst way last year, but did the JERK in the house once again have to be Canadian??? Ouch!
dfleminator - July 8, 2006 04:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know... there's a striking similarity between these two, isn't there?
Urbangirl - July 16, 2006 12:07 PM (GMT)
Speaking of JD - I just read on the INXS website that he is making a "guest appearance" on Rockstar in the coming weeks. Wonder if will sit with the panel and give his 2cents worth or perhaps be a "motivational" speaker at the house.
But hey - did you notice that the Aussie guy seems to be the "nice" guy again B) We Aussie are just all round nice people.

Really liked Lukas in the first week, but he's been steadily plummetting in my estimation since! He's a great performer, but he doesn't have enough base tone to his voice to support the raspiness.
I hope he listened to the voice coach they got in and is going to do something about it.
FatOld&Bald - August 5, 2006 11:54 AM (GMT)
You're right. He's got talent and prescence and hopefully he will take better care of his voice.
beforeiforget - August 8, 2006 02:11 PM (GMT)
Careful, one and all. That "alternative" voice he told us several weeks back that he did not wish to reveal just yet? --- well, I can hear it like a dog whistle. My ears are perked after that snippet at the mansion --- and to think he will reveal all while performing "Creep"... how perfectly apt, and call me his chewtoy.

Enjoy him while and if you can. There's an overdose, self-inflicted wound, or an "I'm a golden god" leap from a high place (or party boat) in that boy's future.

Hey all you rock fans out there. I don't know about you but I am leaning pretty heavy towards Lukas being the winner. I mean after Tuesday nights performance I'm sorry but that was bloody awesome. What do you all think, do you think he has what it takes to go all the way.

Welcome to ART Tommyhawkfan!!! I hope you'll stick around and discuss the show with us. I really like Lukas and think he will go far. If he will listen to Jason's advice and keep his throat "open" whilst he sings, he's got a good shot. But I'm still thinkin' Dilana may have the gig in her back pocket.

Lukas would win if the comp were decided today in my opinion...
However i think he has the propensity to shoot himself in the foot...

My goodness! I am compelled yet again to represent this contestant 'gainst the Niagara of concern for him you have professed here! Respectfully, I'll veer from your group therapy path.
Please plant me firmly in the camp that regards Lukas as Top 1-2. I cannot concoct a scenario in which these SN folks wouldn't LOVE his eccentricities, his showmanship... and his vocals. And I could see how they might invite the prospect that he just might, indeed, implode! Overheard: "How cool! Hasn't been done live before; do you think he just might, for the sake of the 1-yr team? Could SN actually physically blow apart just at the 350-day mark"? Assuredly, and so everyone knows, with all kidding aside and without need for me to asterix my own text (!), I would think SN would wish him nothing but the best of general health --- but believe they might NOT discourage him from perpetuating that danger-laden, raspy/smoky/injured [insert your fav adj/adv here!] vocal depiction and matching psyche, knowing that he plays those traits up to the band's very best advantage. Lukas' other strong, charismatic features are too seductive to SN--- He's to be ignored in any trifecta at one's peril.
Two large on Lukas in the 7th to WIN. Photo for place between Dilana/Storm fillies. [Wait --- there's a judge's enquiry --- 1-2-3 now all up for grabs]
Has anyone heard Lukas sing for two hours straight? Does he change it up vocally, or is it all rasp? Interesting. Can't help but think if Jason hadn't harped on the matter incessantly that it would never have been a topic for such benevolent rehab recommendations from the e'er-do-wells. Memory lane: A fun flashback to SuZie's comment to Marty in week 1 of season 1 --- and people came down hard on SuZie's case, not Marty's. Ah, such a new year it is, then.
What I can appreciate about Lukas is he seems a straightup breed of cat. He's no less nor more appealing on stage or off --- seems comfortable in his abrasively cool world. He hasn't shown he cares about much (which is where the JD comparison-shoppers should call a halt --- JD seemingly does care, welcome and enjoy his interaction with his band, his audience, his family/friends --- and I quite like him, for that and other reasons from the live show I attended).
Lukas: he's gothicly interesting, an enigma that I'd indeed pay to share a space with: not as a sideshow as some might, but for the captivation and excitement of thinking anything could happen and probably would (ref: Murray Walker, F1 impressario). I'm not so much taken with the charm of the man as I am taken into his world for a brief spell.
Honey, get me re-write! I think I've just supported a fellow I'm not sure I'd have lunch with.

Hey all, Dilana might have a chance but hey I'm from Canada so I have to stick my fellow Canuck Lukas first, but D is for sure my second choice, her vocals are awesome. Toby on the other hand tried to copy JD with that megaphone bit last week in my eyes. He needed to be more original. Zyara or however you spell it thought I feel should of been booted a few weeks ago, she's too flaky and her vocals are not suited for a rock band.
Urbangirl - August 12, 2006 06:54 AM (GMT)
Welcome to ART Tommyhawkfan - I know how you feel supporting your local. I'm a little Aussie barracking for Toby, but I do agree that the megaphone idea was not that great.
