Title: Doing the Middle Finger Salute
Description: 7/17 Recap

Last week on Hell’s Kitchen: Virginia chooses Rachel and Maribel, and Rachel is axed. I know this because of the excessively long recap of last week’s show. I hate those. Six remain, who will get kicked out of Hell’s Kitchen tonight.

Everyone returns to the loft after the elimination, and Heather is sad. Very sad. So sad that she ends up whining to the person who almost got eliminated – Maribel. Bad move. Meanwhile, the guys proclaim that the girls “are broken” because Rachel’s gone and Heather is weakened and celebrate.

The next morning, the Sous Chef’s wake the remaining 6 at 6:30 in the morning to go to the Grand Central Public Market, where Chef Ramsey intends to give them “inspiration”. He wants them to look around the market and “discover” a 3 course meal. On team red, Sara is angry because Virginia’s taken control. At the 10 minute mark, both teams are still unsure of what they’re going to be making, and both teams continue to freak out while grabbing groceries until time is called. Afterwards, they have an hour to make the meals. Everyone hustles to finish their meals.

Finally, it’s time to taste. First up are the appetizers, done by Garret and Sara. Garret does a roasted corn, scallop and shrimp dish. Ramsey likes the presentation, except for the fact that you can see the tail. Scary, scary! Meanwhile, Sara has done a bell pepper soup. While it looks good, the peppers are burned! Oh no!. Next are the entrees. Virginia’s is chicken stuffed with salami and tomatoes. Virginia comments that it’s just one breast, to which Ramsey says that her chicken has big breasts. Ah, for small favors. Ramsey likes it and the concept, and everyone is pleased. Keith’s dish is rib-eye with tomatillo. Ramsey loves it as well, saying that it’s absolutely delicious. What’s up with him – a good mood? Something’s off here. Finally, we have Maribel and Heather. Heather has done fresh fruit with a mango pureé. Or something like that – I missed all of the big words. Ramsey says that they’ve gone soggy, but otherwise it’s good. Meanwhile, although Ramsey thinks that Maribel’s shortcake is uninspired, he admits that it tastes great.

After far too many dramatic breaks (like, five of them) AND a commercial break, we (finally) find out that the... red team won! While Virginia smiles her little heart out, the Blue Team must go do delivery work. And they are ANGRY. Angry enough to get bleeped out about 30 times in a two minute period. The girls actually walk out while they’re on their tirade and Virginia gets subjected to some teasing about her rolled chicken. While the girls go out with Ramsey, the blue team must lift stuff. The horror! And, when Ramsey beeps at them, Garrett flips him the bird. Dirty dirty! The next few minutes consists of shots of the girls enjoying themselves and the blue team lifting things. Great!

However, the next morning isn’t so great – at least, not for Garrett. It turns out that his bad sign angered le Gordon, and he asks him if he wants to leave – now. SHOCKER! And, of course, with every shocker on this show – or any show on FOX, for that matter – comes a very long commercial break. Garrett, of course, says no, and Gordon screams at him like usual. Not very climatic. Afterwards, Gordon drops a bombshell, saying that the teams have to make their own menus. Surprise, surprise! On the blue team, Garrett’s feeling frustration because his ideas aren’t good enough. Meanwhile on team red team, Maribel can’t get supplies fast enough to satisfy the rest of her team, and Virginia is pissed. Yeah, like everyone else on the show. And everyone else that’s forcing themselves to watch this show.

It’s finally time to open the restaurant. Keith’s risotto is a hit with Ramsey, and Virginia’s having issues. Her fish is raw, the sashimi is impossible to cut, and Gordon is angry. About an hour in, team Red is starting to get the appetizers out – but team blue is already done with them, thanks to Keith’s cooking. However, Garrett runs into problems with the entrees – his food is still raw! The horror! Tensions are boiling, as usual, and the team is about to ‘flash’ it for a second, when... they hear the horn! Apparently, they’ve got one more delivery to make. Oh. That’s wretched.

Meanwhile, on team Red, Virginia has finished with her appetizers and Sara is having issues with lamb. Apparently she can’t seem to get it to not be rare. The pity, the pity. The blue team finishes their delivery duty and gets back in the kitchen – however, Garrett is still having the same problems as before, and Chef Ramsey has to help him get the steak cooked properly. Eventually, the blue kitchen is getting its entreés out (thanks to Heather taking over Garrett’s duty) and Sara gets yelled at by Chef Ramsey as he yanks her lamb off of the menu. Ouch.

Since the lamb gets axed, Maribel’s meal is the only entreé that can save it for the red team. However, the first one that she gets out comes back, and she figures out that it’s undercooked. So, while the blue team is finishing up their meal, serving the desserts as quickly as possible, the red team is getting yelled at by Gordon for not finishing the meal. Sarah makes the mistake of saying something about consistency and Gordon finally blows his lid for the night. After cursing them out, he asks the blue team to help them out, and they manage to get the food out. After the service, Gordon praises Keith and Heather, says that Garrett is very lucky, and chastises the ladies on the red team. Thus, the red team loses. They each must pick one member of their team to nominate. During a deliberation session, Maribel and Virginia blame Sara while Sara snaps her fingers and says “whatevah”. Such a good sport about messing up in the kitchen, isn’t she?

The remaining six HKers arrive back at the kitchen for the elimination ceremony. However, Gordon has a TWIST – all three members of the red team must step forward! Shock! Sara says that she should stay because she’s organized and that she can’t cook lamb, but nobody can. Virginia calls her bluff. Meanwhile, Maribel says that she doesn’t feel respected by the other members. In the end, it’s poor Maribel that gets eliminated. She says she’ll be proud of her performance, and we’re all sad because that means that Sara’s annoying smirk will still be on television. For shame.

Next week – the final five come together as a team to make le Gordon even angrier than usual. Great!
