Title: Treasure Hunter's 7/3
Description: It's called Karma

lpatrick - July 6, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
Last week three more teams experienced the Fogal betrayl. The Grad Students went down, but remained in the hunt. And finally the Browns lost out to the Angus burger eatin' Hanlons. This week eight teams are left to uncover the secrets of the American Revolution.

All the teams are sitting around at another nice B&B. Somehow they were magically transported from Montana to Boston, Mass. The Grad Gals are having a private moment, trying to figure out their future in the game. Jessica fell and hurt her leg/ankle during the last episode of the show. Since seeing them last, she has met with an orthopedic surgeon. She's been told that she can do no more physical activity for awhile or risk having surgery. As the other teams are on the patio/balcony feasting, the Grads make the tearful announcement they will not be continuting in the hunt. Everyone sheds a few tears, even the evil Mama Fogal. Now that the Grad Students are sent home early, the last team eliminated, the Browns will be able to reenter the hunt. (This is a little confusing. Since when does an eliminated team get a do-over??) Mama Fogal thinks this is a postive sign, while the Hanlons tell us it's a "bunch of crap." (Leave it to Papa Mullet to speak so eloquently.)

Since childhood we've learned about the American Revolution. Teams will seach the Old Burke School to find their next clue. Most of the teams decided that since the Southies are Boston hometown boys, they will be the ones to follow. So the Southies are out in front with everyone following behind as they make their right turn. But wait, team Air Force just took a left. Could the team that's been first for most of the hunt just have made a huge mistake. The Ex-CIA tells that team Air Force is their biggest competition. (Did they forget the Browns are back in the race?) :D Flash forward to the Fogal car, and they're lost. And daughter Kay-te, Drama Queen is now car sick. (What next with this girl? Did you guys see the previews for next week?!?) The Fogals call the Geniuses, trying to get some help on the school's location. Francis tells the Fo-g's that they are headed west. This is wrong. (I'm not sure what direction they are going but it's not west.) The Fogals are already close to thirty miles away from the school. So who's going to arrive first? Not the hometown boys, the Southies. Yes, you guessed it. Once again team Air Force is first to the Old Burke School. As they come in the door, there is a message that reads, "Look Until You Can See No More." To confuse the whole situation a little more, there's graffiti everywhere. They start searching the classrooms. They notice that there is a list of American history facts on the chalkboard. One of the guys on team A.F. has zoned in on the fact written... "Shot heard round the world." (I guess they are headed to Lexington.) The Air Force team is out of the building, thinking they have found the clue. The other teams arrive and are all wondering around looking for their clue. No one has noticed the sign with the message of "look 'til you can see no more." The teams are in the classroom, looking at facts on the chalkboard. The Ex-CIA's don't think that it's relevant. Young Hanlon takes notice of a set of light switches on the chalkborad, not the wall. Let's see what this does, shall we! Out go the regular lights and on comes the black lights to reveal not one, but two hidden messages. One clue says to go to the Old NewGate Prison and search the darkness to find the light. The other clue is to go to Wentworth House at Strawbery Banke and locate what the minutemen left behind. The American Revolution was a time of extreme paranoia. Not knowing who you could trust could be the end to your survival... keep thy friends close but your enemies closer. Teams must now pair up and "trust" one another. One team will retrieve a clue from the prison while the other will go to Wentworth house for a clue. Once they are found the teams must share their part to come up with the entire next clue. (Confused, yet???) As the Southies, Geniuses, Miss USA, Ex-CIA, and Wild Hanlons work on a plan, the Geniuses get another call from those darn Fogals. There are ten miles outside of Boston and very lost. Francis tells that so is team Genius. He says that they think that they are close to them... dang these Boston streets, just stay put, you'll see us soon. (Yeah right.) The Browns have found the school and with six teams on location, they have decided that it's them against the Fogals and team Air Force. The Southies seem to feel that team Air Force has been "jackin' people the whole way." :suspicious Everyone is excited that they've "Fogal'd the Fogals." (Chuck, chuck and har har.) Team Air Force thinks they have made a mistake and are heading back to the school to see if they've missed something. On the way to Wentworth House are teams: Ex-CIA, Wild Hanlons and Southies. Headed to the prison : Geniuses, Browns, and Miss USA. With the Air Force back at the school and with the magic of editing, they quickly find the correct clue. For some unknown reason they call team Fogal and send them on to the prison. This is a very smart move because at the Fogal's current location, they are only sixty miles from the prison and should arrive their before any of the other teams.

Wentworth House is one of the oldest known houses possibly used by the minutement during the American Revolution. They would use bullets to hide messages in and if they were found the bullets could be swallowed. Locate the bullet to get part of your clue for the next destination. The Southies, Ex-CIA, and Wild Hanlons start looking in cabinets, drawers, under rugs... that looks like something...they've found some loose boards in the floor and what do they find: It's the magic bullet. The message inside reads: Near Old North Church/Only the Dead/One if by Land/Plymouth/Boston. As the three teams leave the house and head down the street, here comes team Air Force to the Wentworth door. Seeing the three teams leaving together, the AF's realize that they are working against them. One team AF guy says, "Well that's just sick." They rip through the house and quickly find their bullet. Over at the prison, the family Fogal have arrived before anyone else. The Old Newgate Prison is an ancient coppermine that was the first prison in America. The British used it to hold American minutemen in the dark passages. Teams will have to search through these dark passages to find what... that magic bullet with a hidden message. There are several crops of small buildings. Amazingly, the Fogals find the right door on their first try. Uh-oh, it's a spiral staircase headed down into the depths of darkness. (Wow, are they going to feel at home or what???) And of course, Daughter Kay-te is scared. After a few moments of walking, Preacher Fogal finds the bullet stuck in the wall. (The camera guys must have given them some clues... you're getting warmer, no now you're cold, because, they found that bullet way too fast in the darkness.) Here's how their clue read: Near Old North Church/Can See the Light/Two if by Sea/Light if by Land/Light if by Sea. To help us all out, here's the clue put together: Near Old North Church, Only the dead can see the light, one if by land, two if by sea. Plymouth Light if by Land, Boston Light if by Sea. Next to arrive at the prison are the Browns, followed closely by the Geniuses and then a little later by Miss USA. (They get to play the warm/cold game with the camera guys too). The three teams get their bullet and head out. Everyone is basically directed to Old North Church. The Browns call the Hanlons. Young Hanlon answers and ask if they have their clue just as Papa Hanlon (thinking he's oh so clever) makes some phone static. The Browns know they can't trust the Hanlons now as Mullet Man laminates that he could call them back and screw with them, but "I believe it karma." (Let's make a mental note here friends.) :D

Team Air Force is the first to arrive at the Old North Church Cemetary (Remember the clue...only the dead can see). They notice that their are two lanters burning in a tower and this directs them to the Boston Light house clue. The Southie Boys come along to find that team Air Force has beat them again. The Air Force guys ask them if they want to work together and the Southie Boys reply "We can't." This puts the A.F's on the defensive and they say, "Just know, you're sending a message." They stand around and do this dialouge about taking it personal, blah, blah, blah. (Looks like a lot of time wasting to me.) Back to our clue: Teams will travel to Pemberton Pier. There they will find tickets for their departure order on a ferry that will take them to the Boston Lighthouse. A boat will leave every fifteen minutes starting at 7:30am. Two teams can actually share a ride, but it's up to them to make that decision. The Southie Boys are the first to arrive, followed by Ex-CIA, and then team Air Force. The Hanlons arrive fourth on the pier, but pass right by the ticket counter. They start searching the water for the ticket/clue. They are trying to get a hold of something out in the water, while the Southie's are driving off laughing. :laugh They finally decide that the plastic bottle in the water is not their ticket and it was right in front of their face all along. They do get a ticket and will be fourth. The Fogals arrive and get the fifth ticket, followed by Miss USA, Geniuses coming in seventh. And rounded out last place once again, are the Browns. They are tried of coming in last and "it's not gonna happen again. Maybe we can pair off with another team." (Good luck with that idea, Big Boy.)

The teams are at another Bed and Breakfast (what's up with the B&B, I'd join the show just for the accomadations). They are all sitting around feasting and laughing. The Ex-CIA's are going to unite with Miss USA team. And it looks like most of the teams are going to share their boats. Night goes and now it's morning. Back on the pier, the Brown family is wondering around aimlessly. They may still be trying to find another team to ally themselves with. Teams will be taking the ferry to the Boston Light (1716) to find their third artifact. This lighthouse was America's first and played an important role in the Revolution. As the British we retreating, they burned this lighthouse to the ground, thus ending the American Revolution. On the lighthouse island teams will easily find lock boxes (yes, they are right out in the open), however, finding the two combinations needed to open said boxes is going to be more difficult. (And no, Wild Hanlons, no combinations will be found in the water today.) The Southies are on the first ferry and take the Geniuses with them. They think these young brains are just brilliant. They arrive at the Boston Light and start trying to come up with the combinations for the lockboxes that are just sitting out in plain sight. One of the Geniuses in all their brilliance, has seen the little rock formations. They'll get a better look from the top of the lighthouse. It is noted quickly that the rock croppings make out roman numerals. At this point the Ex-CIA team, who shared their ferry with Miss USA arrive. The four teams are working together. Team Air Force was kind enough to continue their alliance with the Fogals and they are sharing the third ferry over. The four teams already on the island are moving quickly to solve the combination before they arrive. Here's where it gets interesting folks: Back at the pier, two teams are left waiting. Yes, our fun lovin' Hanlons and the already elimination, but back in the hunt for a little while longer Browns. The Browns ask the Hanlons if they are gonna share their boat. (What a stupid question, I mean come on, these guys may not be athletic, but they seem to have some commonsense. Maybe not.) The Hanlons tell that last night they decided they were NOT going to be working with any other team. The Browns get a little attitude about this and say, "So y'all are dumpin' us on the side." Papa Mullet yells, "Y'all are lucky y'all are even here, so be thankful." The Browns are thinking... Oh..no...he...didn't. As the Wild Hanlons ride away on their ferry, Papa Mullet laughs from the distance, "Peace out clowns, I mean Browns." The elder Brown says, "That man right there is stepping on the wrong side of me." :) (I love it.) Ok, back to the hunt... The four teams, Southies, Geniuses, Ex-CIA and Miss USA have their combinations that are the roman numerals of 9-2-5-3 and 1-3-4-1. Each of the four find their artifact, which is an engraved box. This will be added with their other two artifacts (map and compass) to help them locate the final tresure. As the Air Force and Fogal teams arrive, the others start putting the locks back on the boxes and spinning the combinations. (Sneaky) Through the magic of editing (there seems to be alot in this episode) the Fogals find the rock formation quickly and a member of team Air Force goes to the top of the lighthouse. He brings them back the roman numberal sequence. They are confused by the "L" but Daughter Fogal knows her roman numbers and tells it's 50. (Good for her. She hasn't redeemed herself yet, but at least we see she's smarter than some of our teams.) The two teams work together. The Fogals get their clue fifth and Air Force come in sixth. Ok, boys and girls that means, there's only one artifact left and two teams after it. The Hanlons arrive and ask for a hack saw. They sit and start trying combinations. (We know they can just pull it out of the air.) They start walking around, looking for clues. Young Hanlon heads to the top of the lighthouse while Uncle and Papa start writing down every number they see. The Browns are making landfall. Young Hanlon sees the rocks and starts writing on his hand. (He may have it folks.) Shortly after, elder Brown arrives at the top of the lighthouse. Young Hanlon tells that he's sorry for not letting them ride on the ferry and making them wait. Mr. Brown accepts the apology and tells him he's a good man. (I would have to agree. Young Hanlon could have left the top without saying a word to the other team, but in the end, I would have to say that if he keeps this up, he's going to be a better man than Papa or Uncle.) Back on the ground, the Hanlons start working their roman numberal knowledge. They can't figure out "L" so Papa starts singing his "ABC's." :O (That will make it 12, not 50. Sorry Papa, try again) And it looks like the Brown's have the right combination. They've gotten one off the box but it's empty. (Sneaky other teams.) Papa Mullet runs to lock the Browns got open and tells his team to try this combination. It's wrong. The Browns twisted the numbers for them and are standing in the distance getting a good giggle. (Here's where I thought it would come to blows:) The two older Hanlons are trying to walk around and watch the Browns enter their combination. "Yo, yo man, what y'all doin round here?" the Brown's ask. Papa H retorts, "This Is AaaMerica, we cun wallk wherever we want." (Yes, that's how it sounded.) Now Papa Hanlon is on his hands and knees, :O trying to look between the legs :shifty of a squatting Brown to get the combination. (Did you get the visual... yeah, it was bad!!!) The Browns say that now "All America is gonna know you're scum, dog scum, rotten scum." (OK we get the picture.)"You wouldn't let me ride on your boat, now you wanna ride my back." (Ewwwww) Young Hanlon who has stayed out of this little pissing match tells his family/team members that "That's not the way to get it." And with those words, the Browns open the box and retrieve the last artifact. The Wild Hanlons are now eliminated, but still keep working on the combination. Papa Hanlon sits back and reflects, "It's called karma, man. This wasn't just a hunt for treasure, it's about finding your inner self." (Go home Papa and get a decent haircut for everyone's sake.) :)

Join us back here next week when Kay-te Fogal has a major breakdown in the swamp... at least that's what the previews want us to think.
