Please discuss tonight's premiere show here! :)

Ok, pretty exciting two hour premiere show. And yes, I knew the answer to the Thomas Edison question of his children's nicknames, Dot and Dash, but Mr. lpatrick wouldn't enter it for me while I was working on my recap. :oooo
I'm wondering about the Brown family and the "biggest" memeber having to be helped to the shore of the beach. I would think that would be a disqualification since he couldn't do the "challenge" on his own or at least with only his teammates help.
The Grad Student's seemed to get all their stuff taken away. And I'm not even going to start in on Preacher Fogal and his family... you'll just have to wait for the recap guys.
Let me know what you all think of the premiere and our ten (now nine remaining teams). Buh-bye Young Professionals. You should have put your foot down with the Geniuses at Mt. Roosevelt.

This is going to be a great show, I can feel it!
I already hate the Fogal parents, I'm not sure why the Brown family was cast (they couldn't have passed a physical!), and the Wild Hanlons are too dumb...
It was interesting seeing Mt. Rushmore again. I went a few years ago with my family, and it was probably the most boring part of our whole trip. Compared to the Badlands in South Dakota, and the geographic centre of North America in North Dakota... Mt. Rushmore wasn't all that interesting for a bunch of Canadian folks like us :) Although it is impressive how the blasting was done.
I am really excited for this show... this is the kind of thing I need while Lost is on a break until October!

The show is, for the most part, interesting, and I will wait for the next week's episode.
I actually like Margie and Kayte of the Fogals, and I like the Air Force and Ex-CIA (my two picks to win). I love the Browns and thought the Young Professionals would really make it far. It's kind of their fault they got axed first, but I blame the Geniuses for their ouster, as well.
This has so many similarities to The Amazing Race, as well as so many differences. All in all, not bad a show.

Glad to see you in here Dale. It looks like it will be an exciting season and we hope you stick around to discuss the show with us.

Yes, the Wild Hanlons are dumb, but I found it entertaining to watch them! At Mount Rushmore, when they kept picking up things like rocks and thinking that they were finding something significant, I couldn't stop laughing.
lpatrick - June 19, 2006 03:44 PM (GMT)
I know, when he picked up the trash can and found that paper American Flag, I thought how amazing it would be if it was a clue that only they found. Too funny. I also got a good laugh out of the pile of sticks Mullet Hanlon kept looking under. Glad to see you in here jlyl.

Missed this show and I was interested but I was watching 4400 and Dead Zone premieres, made it will rerun like TAR
lpatrick - June 19, 2006 05:08 PM (GMT)
Hey Irishtxgrl... I missed those two shows (my other favorites besides Lost) watching Treasure Hunter's but caught them on their reruns later in the evening. I know they are going to replay an hour of highlights before the regular show time, I believe next Monday. I know the show will not air in my area tonight on NBC because of the Stanley Cup. Check your local listings and hopefully you can catch up and discuss the show with us. I should have the recap up later this evening. My mom had surgery this morning, so I had to shelf my notes for a little while.

Loved the show and loved most of the characters. I don't know why, but I'm surprised that the Canadian above doesn't like Mt. Rushmore. I was so awed by the massive size of it. Whoever said that you have to see it in person to appreciate it was dead on.
The Wild Hanlons were driving me nuts. The Young Pros should have received a free shot at the Geniuses for being so thick! I'm likign CIA too.
Squishybut - June 20, 2006 05:04 PM (GMT)
The Hanlons are so Kuntry, they crack me up. (and kinda embarrass me, too). Maybe after this first leg they will chat with some of the other teams and realize that they don't need to literally "leave no stone unturned". The way Papa Hanlon was making up codes was very entertaining. I think the boy is the smartest of the bunch.
The Fogals - UGH! The mom is so annoying and I really can't believe the dad stole that document from the GRAD's and then they just ignored their daughter while she was hurt. They should be ashamed of themselves. Talk about cut throat and bad parenting.
I was glad that the Brown's didn't finish last but agree that they need some help in the physical areas and wonder why they are allowed it by the rules. I did enjoy the show much more than I had thought. No real favorites yet because there are too many individuals.
funnygirl - June 20, 2006 05:33 PM (GMT)
I don't know Squish. I think the Fogal's daughter is quite the drama queen. She kept saying it was broke but once they got the clue out she seemed to be all better. If you saw my reaction to my youngest (kutziest) kid, you would think the same thing about me. I do agree about it being slimey that the dad stole the clue from the Grad Student, but a more resourceful person would have kept it from happening.
Squishybut - June 20, 2006 06:33 PM (GMT)
I see your point, FG, about the daughter being a DQ. But, funny that they didn't even pause to ask her about it at all!
My oldest is the drama king at my abode. You'd think he lost a leg the way he carries on. It depends on my mood if I am a "good" mom or not, but I think the way Mama Fogle was cheering on her DH when he stole the clue and she refused to show the other team the key AFTER Daddy Fogle stole their pilot's log. I think she just gets to me. And you do gotta admit, they play dirty. At this point it really wasn't a race anyways even tho they made it look like it was.

I'm with you on the Fogal matter Squishy. Yes Daughter Fogal is a major drama queen. But remember when she did hurt her thumb (and I really think she probably jammed it or something) both parents basically shoved her out of their way. That's heartless and cold... even for bad parents.

I don't think she was a drama queen. Maybe she was really hurt, but actually thought it was more hurt than it really was.
lpatrick - June 20, 2006 11:54 PM (GMT)
I think she was hurt, but she overreacted a little. The sad part was the way her parents treated her. I did feel bad for her while she was hurling on the ship.
What did everyone think of team Miss USA and the Grad Students? I think the Grads kept making some very bad mistakes that gotten taken advantage of. They are going to have to get a little smarter if they are going to last.
I'm not totally disliking the Wild Hanlons. I really hope they stay around for awhile. They will give us great material, I'm sure.
Glad to see everybody watching. Tell your friends.

Personally, I think Team Miss USA may have more potential than Team Grad Students.

Hey Dale, I've seen you around, but I don't believe I've welcomed you around here! Good to have you!
I think that the girl was probably being a bit of a drama queen, but only because that's probably the only way she could get attention from her parents that seem to have their heads stuck so far up their own you-know-whats that they don't seem to know/care what's going on in their daughter's life. The fact that they didn't even look says a lot imo.
I work with kids, so I understand that there's certain kids that you pretty much know are just being overdramatic, but I will still at least look over their way to see what happened!
funnygirl - June 21, 2006 02:39 PM (GMT)
Hey Dale, welcome aboard. Why don't you go to the Introduction thread in the lounge and tell us a little more about yourself. ;)
I think the grad students and Ms. USA contestants are about as real as their boobs!
