Last week on The Cut: WesnDeanna took a fall as a team, and Princess and Liz are actually in the final four. Oh yeah, and the two visionaries, Felix and Chris, are there as well. Whose style will be out this week?
First, I must apologize for the lack of recapperation last week: my stupid $&#* VCR was angry, and decided to start taping the show at 4:45 AM instead of at 4:00 AM. Mesa upsetsa...
Anyways, the show begins with Liz basking in the glory of being in the final four. Apparently, she’s surprised that she made it this far. Don’t worry – we’re just as shocked as you are. Felix mentions that, if they have to pick teams again, he would rather work with Liz rather than switching partners. Back in the part of the house that I’ve never seen before, Princess and Chris discuss how worthless Liz and Felix are. Don’t all of these people just loooooove each other? Princess mentions for the first time of many tonight that Liz wouldn’t be there without the help of Felix, and I must admit that she’s partially right because Liz does seem to hang onto Felix like one of those parasitic fish hangs onto a shark. Or a manatee. Or a dolphin. Or a whale. Or whichever sea creature those parasitic fish things hang on. Damn you, biology, for teaching me nothing about sea animals so that I can make a worthless analogy involving them! Damn you!
The next morning, the remaining four contestants meet Tommy at a dock, where Tommy announces the next challenge. This week, they will all be sifting through garbage in order to find materials so that they can make a beautiful outfit that is sellable. They will have two hours to find the garbage. Hmm... sifting through garbage? For some reason, I feel like I’m doing the exact same thing. I wonder why... Tommy also announces that they will all get a chance to do some
The four get to work ASAP, and they all seem to already know what they want. Sadly, none of them say that their design is going to be fierce, although Princess gets close by using the term “hot”. *sniff* We miss you, Deanna. And your skunk-like hair. During their time sifting through the garbage, Liz gets help from Felix with uncovering a large sofa, and the two swap design ideas. Princess and Chris scoff at their teamwork, and Princess mentions yet again that Liz doesn’t have any talent. We get it, Princess – she’s just not giving fever like you are. (Anyone remember that from week 2? Anyone? No? Drat.)
That night, Princess, Felix, Chris, and Liz go to Mr. H’s house for dinner. All in all, the segment is worthless, but I’ll provide a few key highlights that we all need to remember: first off, Tommy’s son was wearing the most despicable pink sweater. I mean, I understand that it’s winter and all, but really now... he looked like a nice, pink gumball. It was scary. Also, in case you don’t know already – PRINCESS THINKS THAT LIZ IS COMPLETELY INCAPABLE OF DOING ANYTHING FASHION RELATED. Hopefully we got that out of the way.
Later that night, Chris and Princess are working on their dresses, and Princess is getting the space that she needs because she needs her space, since cutting stuff is realllllly hard. Unfortunately for Princess, Liz and her 20 person entourage come in and force Princess to share her cutting space with someone. Princess immediately gets “on fire”, in her own words. I was expecting the next few scenes to be Princess getting too close to a live wire that catches on a piece of clothing and suddenly catches on fire, but instead we just see Princess give some eyes to Liz’s back and act a little bit annoyed. You mislead us, Princess. I’m upset. Princess later whines about how Liz has team of about three hundred seamstresses doing all of her work for her. And THIS is supposed to be a fire? To me, this is more like a small match flickering. Or maybe one of those nifty incense candles.
Later that night, Liz is just so stressed out. Apparently, all of the irons in her part of the cutting room are dirty and Princess and Chris are being so juvenile and I’m so disappointed in them. *eye roll* Princess mentions that she would pay money to not hear Liz’s voice (and that’s saying something, considering how Princess’ voice sounds). I originally couldn’t understand that, but with some of the inflection that she gives... it makes my head want to explode. Liz is also having trouble because her male seamstress (a seamster or a manstress or a maleseamperson or something like that) is rather inept and can’t sew anything correctly. Whenever Liz says that he messed up, he gives her the same look that she used to give WesnDeanna back when they were still around. *sigh* those were good times... back when I had more fodder for the fire.
The next morning, everyone’s still at work, and everyone except Liz pulled an all-nighter (Liz, of course, could never do an all-nighter, which would be absolutely insane to think about). Felix mentions for about the 100th time that his outfits are the most amazing and that he’s definitely going to win. Blah. In the Princess-Chris cutting room, Princess and Chris are giving each other emotional support in a very Liz-Felixesque way. I’m wondering who could have possibly just stopped by Hypocrisy R Us. The models soon arrive, everyone gets their models’ dressed, and everyone finishes their work with less than 10 minutes to spare. I know this because the dramatic white letting at the bottom of the screen told me so. Way to go, me!
Later that afternoon, everyone gets ready to go to Style Forum. Both Princess and Liz spew love for their partners and hate for everyone else, and nobody – and I mean nobody – is surprised. The contestants arrive at the Style Forum in the usual quasi-dramatic fashion and Tommy begins his critiquing process by talking about their appearance at his house. He doesn’t particularly say anything negative about anyone, and instead asks everyone the question “who doesn’t belong?” The first person to be asked this is Liz, who fumbles around and says “Umm... wow, I don’t really know, I haven’t given it much thought...” at which point Tommy cuts her off while she’s still talking and asks Princess and Chris, both of whom say Liz. After being completely flabbergasted (because, of course, there was NO way she saw that coming), she points the finger at Princess. In a surprise move, Felix points the finger at Chris and Liz because of their inexperience. Liz gives him the “Look of Disappointment and Awe tm” and Chris gets into a spat with him about who’s better. Essentially, it’s the two visionaries thumping their chests and saying “Me make prettier clothing! A-ooh a-ooh a-ooh!”
However, none of this stuff really matters, as Tommy’s only looking at the outfits to make his opinion. The models come down the runway and Tommy is prepared to give his opinion. The surprise winner of the night is... LIZ! She gives her usual look of shock and awe, and Princess rolls her eyes in annoyance. Tommy brings Princess, Chris, and Felix into the pit, then lets Chris go back because his outfit was sexy and chic. Princess and Felix are the only two left in the pit. After Tommy gets all annoyed because Princess is experienced and Felix is... well... semi-inept when it comes to understanding challenges, he lets go of Felix because all of the female models wouldn’t want their boyfriends wearing his outfit. I believe that Princess’ model actually looked at him in complete disgust before saying no. That musta hurt. In his post-runway interview, Felix is rather hot and bothered and pissed off, saying that he was the best thing since sliced bread and that all of the other contestants are little peons. Poor guy – it must be hard being a visionary.
Next week: THE SHOW IS OVER! THE SHOW IS OVER! FINALLY! THANK GOODNESS! OH MY GAW! OH MY GAW!
Is anyone out there anymore? Hello? Hello? Hello? E-mail me at boredsim133@yahoo.com if you actually do read this.
Thanks for recapping it Bored. I love reading your recaps they are awesome and this one was fabulous! However, I'm rooting for Liz. She's the ONLY one who has designed anything that made me go ooohhh!! Princess may be able to sew and make patterns but her design vision SUCKS! And if Tommy wants a "yes" man who can spit back at him what he already owns then Chris is his man.
Side note: The finale' is on Wednesday and NOT Friday this week. I know this because my TiVo was giving me all kinds of sass when I was trying to get it to change. You may have to go it alone since I can't bring myself to go without INXS or So You Think You Can Dance....

Why is it that Princess thinks that she should get the job because she can do everything. It doesn't matter that someone can't sew or cut out their own patterns...it's a job for a designer not a frickin seamstress or pattern maker! They have people for those jobs already...all Mr. H needs is a designer....why can't she get that through her thick skull? She just really gets on my last nerve! I'll be highly disappointed if she wins!
Yeah, I'm still watching..., but I'm related to one of the contestants. With all the moving around of the show, however, I doubt I would have hung on this long or kept looking for it if it weren't family. The last episode said this week's episode would air on Wednesday, but I just checked the local TV schedule. For me it's airing on Friday. Go figure that one out. I'm just wondering if the Website will give away the results on Thursday based on some parts of the country getting it on Wednesday...
Of the remaining three, I guess I'd have to vote for the whiny, indecisive Liz. But why would Tommy want to hire any of them? Of course, at this point, Tommy can't buy any good PR and according to the style media his fashions are sinking into the ground, so it just might not matter...
Welcome to ART cool aunt... so I have to ask the question... whose cool aunt are you?
Glad you found us, and hope you stick around to the bitter end!
I'm Jessica's aunt. Yeah, yeah, I know by what I've read that she didn't have a lot of fans here. But, I'd have to say that she didn't come across totally like I know her, thanks to editing and other colorful characters' stronger personalities. And to listen to her descriptions of some of the activities you'd know that she had much more involvement than what was shown. She aspires to have a career in fashion and/or publishing (she is about two years into her college program of women's studies and fashion design). I'm sure that came out in her initial interviews. But, as the youngest person on the show, her age and inexperience with work and life were evident.
As for her beauty queen background, she entered the Miss Minnesota pageant on a whim, as a last minute experiment related to her college studies. Never in a million years did she or any of us think she'd win, especially with no pageant experience. She's a really down-to-earth girl with very Midwestern values, and she strongly stands up for what she believes in (much more assertive than what was shown on the show). Tommy even commented to her at the end that she sure talked herself out of the pit more than anyone else.
I've heard many of her details about what happened behind the scenes, what the real personalities were off-camera, etc. Reality TV is scripted and just not that unplanned or unpredictable. But, she got some great experience and exposure to a whole different world that most of us will never see. And, she's made some lasting friendships with some of her competing cast members. She was also invited back to designer Alex's home in the Hamptons recently for another social event (where she went during the show).
As for the winner of the show... Well, he wasn't my first choice. But, Tommy was portrayed as very wishy-washy about what he was looking for. Someone with extremely creative talent or someone who could create something mainstream that would sell millions of pieces...?? His indecisiveness showed, planned or unplanned. Yet, he is apparently a really nice guy. He sent each of them a gift in late February/early March - a very nice watch with diamonds on the face at the 12, 3, 6 and 9. On the back his logo was engraved, along with "Love, Tommy".
Glad it's over. On to the next shows....
Thanks for the information Cool Aunt! I didn't particularly hate your niece at all.... I slowly lost interest in the show, and didn't have an opinion about her one way or the other. One thing I think we all realize is that in general (and there are of course exceptions to every rule) the people on the shows are nice people outside of their particular shows, and I don't doubt for a second that Jessica is a wonderful girl!
