David, 22, is fresh out of college but already an accomplished businessman. David, the youngest candidate, was a charismatic student at Washington University in St. Louis and was known to lecture classes at the request of his professors. The American Mensa member now earns six figures as the owner and creator of an internet advertising company and a mortgage information services company - both of which he started while still in college. In high school, David created "AIM Talk," a plug-in for AOL Instant Messenger that spoke instant messages using text-to-speech. David has a B.S. with a second major in entreprenuership. He lives just outside of St. Louis.
When will you consider yourself "a success"?I am a success whenever I am doing what God wants me to do and being the person He wants me to be. It's not always easy! But that's life.
How would you describe your leadership style? I would consider myself a motivator. A positive work environment is a productive work environment. I encourage taking calculated risks and learning from mistakes. I'm willing to get my hands dirty and burn the midnight oil.
How do you deal with personal and professional challenges? Prayer. Seeking the advice of others wiser than me. Analyzing, without getting caught up in "analysis paralysis". Writing down goals.
What, in your opinion, is the most important quality to have in order to succeed in life and why?Faith. Without faith I wouldn't be able to make it.
What's more important: College Education or Real World Experience? Both are important. A real world experience adds more problem solving tools to the toolbelt. A college education tells you when to use the tools you've got.
Have any previous Apprentice winners motivated or inspired you?I didn't really watch the show a lot. But I always enjoyed watching the sales tasks. If you can sell lemonade in the streets of NY, you can probably sell just about anything.
How do you combine your creativity with your business savvy? Being creative in the business world involves taking limited resources (people, capital, time etc.) and using them to solve problems. Internet based businesses have relatively low barriers to entry, and have been my main avenue of solving business problems.
